A print media cartridge is mounted, in a releasable manner, within the cabinet assembly and carries a wound length of print media. A platen extends away from the print media cartridge to support print media provided from the print media cartridge. A stationary printhead is mounted within the cabinet assembly to extend transverse to the print media, and is configured to print a wallpaper pattern with the ink and upon print media provided from the platen. A cutter module is configured to transversely cut the printed print media so that the printed print media can be separated from the wound length.

A box-shaped head cap 82 has an opening that can seal the nozzle surface to which the ink nozzles of the inkjet head are disposed. The head cap 82 has a lip 92 that can contact the nozzle surface. The lip 92 has an inside slope 93 and an outside slope 94 that incline gradually toward the nozzle surface to a point when seen in cross section. The inside slope 93 of the lip 92 is rendered as a smooth part 93a with lower surface roughness than a coarse part 94b rendered on the outside slope 94.

The channel layer is adjacent the integrated circuit and has channel layer slots. The upper layer has upper layer holes on one side in communication with the channel layer slots and upper layer channels on an opposite side. The middle layer has middle layer holes in communication with the upper layer channels. The lower layer has lower layer channels on one side in communication with the middle layer holes and inlet holes on an opposite side. The inlet holes receive ink for supply to the chambers via the layers.

    Abstract: Tray inserts are disclosed for production printing systems. The tray inserts rest in ink trays and hold ink absorbing elements. The tray inserts and ink absorbing elements collect ink when printheads print outside of the margin of a printable medium, or otherwise discharge ink that does not contact the medium, such as during a cleaning cycle. When the ink absorbing elements become saturated and excess ink collects in the tray inserts, the tray inserts may be lifted vertically out of the ink trays and the ink absorbing elements may be removed from the tray inserts. The excess ink may then be dumped or otherwise cleaned from the tray inserts. In one embodiment, the tray inserts include drains which are used to empty the excess ink.

    Abstract: A maintenance method of a fluid ejecting apparatus having a fluid ejection head. A cap member faces an ejection region of the ejection head and a portion thereof facing the ejection region covers a space that includes the ejection surface. When the space covered by the cap member is to be uncovered, the facing portion of the cap member is tilted with respect to the ejection head. Fluid is then ejected from a first portion of the ejection region toward a predetermined region of the facing portion. The ejection head is then moved, and a second portion of the ejection region behind the first portion is positioned so as to overlap the predetermined region in a plan view. Fluid is then ejected from the second portion toward the predetermined region, and the potential difference resulting from the ejection of the fluid from the ejection head is detected.

    Abstract: The cleaning process best suited to the condition of an inkjet printer is selected and run, thereby removing nozzle clogging without wastefully consuming ink. The first time a cleaning switch 7 is operated a CL1 cleaning process is run. If the cleaning switch 7 is pressed a second time and the print pass count is less than e.g., 400, a CL2 cleaning process that uses more ink than the CL1 process is used to clean the recording head, but if the print pass count is 400 or more, the CL1 cleaning process is used. If the print pass count is less than 400 the third time the switch is operated, the CL2 cleaning process is used, but the CL1 cleaning process is used if the print pass count is 400 or more. If the cleaning switch 7 is operated four or more times and the print pass count is less than 400, a YCL cleaning process that consumes substantially no ink is used to clean the recording head, but if the print pass count is 400 or more, the CL1 cleaning process is used.
