  • Patent number: 4564795
Abstract: An improved motor speed control system for high speed, high resolution motor control applications such as centrifuges is presented. A proportional, or proportional and integral motor control system is provided with improved circuitry which uses digital phase lock techniques to generate a speed difference signal that accurately reflects the difference between the actual and desired speed of the motor. This speed difference signal is used to adjust the speed of the motor until the actual and desired speeds become approximately equal to one another. An error integrating network may then be enabled to eliminate any remaining difference between actual and desired speed, thereby assuring a negligible speed error.

  • Patent number: 4532458
Abstract: An arrangement to provide variation of the speed or other operating parameters of an electrical machine without connection to the rotor. The machine is of the induction type having a winding in separate parts to create a flux movable in the air-gap different speeds by the alteration of current in a part of the winding. In one example the current is altered by a variable impedance connected to one winding part, the other part being connected to an electrical supply.Another example, FIG. 6, shows two machines (NM.sub.1, NM.sub.2) arranged to drive a rail vehicle through smooth rail wheels attached to the machine rotor axles. A single, variable-frequency, inverter (NI) drives both machines and is connected to part (MP) of each machine winding. Other parts (AP) of each machine winding are connected together by a link (NC). In operation power (real or reactive) is transferred between the machines along the link to equalize the torque of the machines.

  • Patent number: 4531080
Abstract: A controller for producing electrical control signals has a relatively stationary supporting section providing an upwardly facing hand supporting surface and an upward projection, and has a stick-like control section mounted on a first gimbal joint on top of the projection, to swing about pitch and roll axes. A second gimbal joint is spaced along the roll axis from the first one and rotates about said roll axis and about a gimbal axis parallel to the pitch axis. A gimbal ring of the first joint is rigidly connected to a gimbal member of the second joint for unison rotation about the roll axis. A second gimbal member of the second joint is caused to rotate about said gimbal axis in unison with swinging of the control section about the pitch axis by a linkage connection between them. A signal generator for each of the pitch and roll axes and a stick force generating means for each of those axes are connected with respective gimbal members of the second joint.

  • Patent number: 4523665
Abstract: A control apparatus for elevators in which one cycle of a fluctuating demand is divided into a plurality of sections, the demand in each section or a service condition value of the elevators for the demand is measured, the demand or the service condition value of the corresponding section is estimated from the measured value, and decision means is comprised to compare the estimated value and the measured value obtained anew and to decide the compared result, so that when the compared result has been decided to fail in satisfying a reference condition, cages are controlled with a value set separately from the estimated value or a value separately calculated for estimation. This brings forth the effect that, even when the measured value has become different from an ordinary value due to the occurrence of a special traffic condition, it is not used for the calculation of the estimative value, so as to permit an accurate estimation when an ordinary traffic condition has been thereafter restored.

  • Patent number: 4523134
Abstract: In a DC motor control system, switching element driving circuits are connected to respective base circuits of four switching elements arranged to form a bridge circuit which has a DC motor connected thereto as an electric load thereon, and an output signal interlocking circuit is provided in each paired driving circuits associated with the corresponding paired switching elements which are connected in series across a DC power source, respectively, thereby preventing simultaneous conduction of each paired switching elements. By virtue of the provision of the output signal interlocking circuits, it is possible to realize a PWM control system for DC motors with a simplified circuit construction and yet to thereby prevent power source short-circuiting trouble with elevated safety and reliability.

  • Patent number: 4520296
Abstract: A drive arrangement for the shaft of a turbo molecular pump comprises a motor supply, including a chopper which controls a voltage source, and a motor with two phase windings connected via a current measuring resistor to the neutral point of the voltage source. The voltage drop at the resistor is proportional to the motor current and so influences the width of the control pulses of a pulse-width modulator connected to control the chopper that the motor current remains constant. Switching transistors for the motor have parallel oppositely-connected diodes which, upon disconnection of a phase winding, supply residual energy to capacitors in the circuit.

  • Patent number: 4520300
Abstract: A servomechanism regeneratively controls motion by a brushless coreless axial-field motor, exerting torque thru its permanent-magnet disk rotor, resulting from synchronized polyphase sinusoidal stator currents, controlled by a switching controller responsive to input commands and to Hall-effect transducer signals that vary sinusoidally with rotor angle and respectively correspond to stator phases. The controller operates with a dc power source and sink. Its signal processors derive from the transducer signals instantaneous magnitudes and polarities thereof and continuous lagless speed feedback. The instantaneous magnitudes are multiplied by a torque amplitude signal to provide respective synchronized amplitude control signals. Current transformers having primary windings in series with power switching transistors provide current feedback pulses with amplitude proportional to instaneous current in associated stator windings.

  • Patent number: 4518062
Abstract: A procedure for adjusting the stopping of an elevator as accurately as possible on desired level with the aid of the deceleration instruction (DR). From the elevator's deceleration instruction (DR) a sample is taken at the beginning and at the end of deceleration, these are compared with each other and the linearity of deceleration is adjusted on the basis of the result obtained. The invention also concerns an elevator deceleration measuring circuit for carrying out the procedure. The measuring circuit, connected to the deceleration instruction (DR) of the elevator, comprises a display unit such as for instance two light-emitting diodes (D4,D5) by which the result can be ascertained if the deceleration instruction is increasing or decreasing.

  • Patent number: 4515247
Abstract: An elevator system which generates a landing speed pattern having the advantages of both digital and analog based patterns, without the disadvantages of either, by generating a landing speed pattern which is a digital, i.e., absolute position, and analog composite. The absolute position of the elevator car in the landing zone of a target floor is detected at only a few points on each side of floor level, and an absolute pattern value is stored in memory for each such point. The stored speed pattern values are retrieved as the car arrives at each absolute position point and used for establishing the landing speed pattern, with the last such value being modified to provide a continuous pattern which smoothly blends with the next stored speed pattern value as the elevator car reaches the next absolute position point.

  • Patent number: 4514642
Abstract: A control system is provided for controlling the distribution of load among a plurality of generators with some of those generators responding quickly to control and some being slow in response. The area control error signal is divided into portions to provide a unit error signal assigned to each generator. A control is utilized which responds to the unit error signal to reposition the governor motor until the error signal is reduced to zero. Applying that control to slow responding units requires anticipation of the generation changes to be expected after full response. Control of the governor motor position so as to modify generation is from the unit error signal as modified in accordance with the difference between the desired generation for the units as required for economic considerations and the actual generation with that difference being modified by a signal which is a function of the anticipated generation. That function is expressable in one form by the equation ##EQU1## where: K is a constantP.sub.
