Abstract: Optical effect pigment comprising a plurality of layers and a magnetic element, the layers can be arranged in two stacks of asymmetric layers or in a single stack of layers and comprise at least an absorber layer and at least a dielectric layer and can further comprise a reflector layer. The magnetic element presents a magnetisation which is out-of-plane, i.e. predominantly perpendicular to the plane of the pigment, which allows a deposition on the printing substrate whereby the face of the pigment lying up or down on the substrate can be predetermined. Such effect pigment has applications in many fields and specifically in security printing, where due to controlled deposition for instance a double-stack pigment will produce a different optical effect on each of its faces.

Abstract: The invention provides a method of producing a filler comprising calcium carbonate (PCC), preferably to be used in paper or paper board production or in fibre based composites. The method of the invention comprises the steps of; —providing fly ash generated in paper or paper board production; —fractionating said fly ash in at least one step, whereby a coarser fraction is separated from a finer fraction; —forming a suspension of said coarser fraction; —adding carbon dioxide to said suspension to form precipitated calcium carbonate. The method of the invention avoids problems with high amounts of arsenic and heavy metals in the production of filler comprising PCC, when using ash generated in paper or paper board production as a raw material. It has been shown that harmful elements, such as arsenic and heavy metals, are primarily accumulated in the finer fractions of the fly ash.
Abstract: The present disclosure relates to a high-strength concrete and a preparation method thereof. The high-strength concrete includes lignin, recycled fine powder, cement, water, sand, gravels and a water reducing agent. The recycled fine powder is recycled fine powder of discarded concrete, and is prepared by separating solid waste of discarded buildings, then performing impurity removal and crushing processing, and grinding same by a ball mill into dust with a particle size of less than 0.16 mm. The lignin is discarded wood lignin, which is prepared by crushing the wood, stirring and extracting a sodium hydroxide aqueous solution with a mass concentration of 5% for 1 to 2 hours at the temperature of 80 DEG C. to obtain a black lignin alkali solution, adding a hydrochloric acid solution with a mass concentration of 30% into the alkali solution for stirring, and making the pH reduced to 7.0 for standing and layering.

Abstract: According to aspects of the present disclosure, a composition is disclosed, which can be utilized to construct a retention structure, e.g., for use with hardscape such as pavers, tile, stone, and other building materials. The composition is a mixture of a cement component (e.g., Portland cement), a sand component, a gravel component, a silica fume component, and fiber component, the above-components mixed in varying ratios. When the cement component, sand component, gravel component, silica fume component, and fiber component are mixed in an effective amount, combined with a water component, and applied against a hardscape, the composition, once cured, defines a retention structure that abuts to, but is not adhered to the hardscape.
