  • Patent number: 6742018
Abstract: Data is stored in a Palm OS based handheld device. The data includes at least one record which contains a keyword used for identifying the record. Each record is stored as a resource in a resource database in the handheld device. The keyword is converted into a long integer and then divided into two parts. The two parts are stored, respectively, as a resource type and a resource ID in a resource information entry included in a header of the resource database corresponding to the record.

  • Patent number: 6725271
Abstract: This invention relates to a multi-application processing process for a locatable active terminal (11), in which at least one link (A) is established with an identifiable program (10) dedicated to the execution of an application, said program imposing its operation conditions so that functions are made available. If necessary, the terminal has a punctual dialogue, via a (B) link, with the management center (12) for the implementation of capacity inputs and outputs of this latter, the management center then becoming slaved or not at the application level vis à vis the incoming program. The invention also relates to the program and terminal identification program during operation.

  • Patent number: 6701360
Abstract: A method and system for independent console access including tracking in a server system allows a plurality of users simultaneous access to any of a plurality of data sources associated with the server. The data sources can be associated with partitions into which the server is divided or can be independent of the partitions. The method and system of the invention also allow a first user of the server to connect to one of the data sources through a tracking mirror, which enables a second user of the server to monitor the movements of the first user by connecting, via the tracking mirror, to the same data source to which the first user connects.

  • Patent number: 6697870
Abstract: In a probe system for monitoring and analyzing data flow and associated activities between devices connected in common to a point in a network, the probe's driver runs in a “Kernel mode” on Windows NT for analyzing packets of data retrieved from the network, whereby programming is provided for operating the Kernel mode driver to monitor the rate of traffic or data packets entering an NIC card buffer, for causing the CPU to respond to an interrupt issued by the NIC everytime a data packet is received at a traffic rate below a predetermined threshold to access data packets entering the NIC card buffer, and to cause the CPU to respond to polling pulses at regular predetermined intervals to access data packets, when the traffic rate exceeds the predetermined threshold, for providing more CPU cycles to analyze the data packets.

  • Patent number: 6694360
Abstract: A multi-mode network interface adapter includes a diagnostic mode, a sleep mode and a run-time mode. The network adapter enters the diagnostic mode at least in response to a power-up signal and validates the operation of predetermined network adapter functions. In the sleep mode, the network adapter transmits messages onto the network and responds to messages received from the network that would otherwise be handled by a host computer operating system. In this mode, the network adapter creates the appearance to other devices that the host computer is operational even if the host computer has entered a reduced power state in which the host computer operating system is not operational. In the run-time mode, the network adapter passes messages received from the network to the host computer and transmits messages received from the host computer over the network.

  • Patent number: 6675201
Abstract: The invention relates to a telephone system and a method for downloading software from a server (128) to a terminal (100, 102), the method comprising the steps of attaching to the software a certificate confirming the authenticity of the software and the loader; downloading the software from a source computer (134) to the server (128); downloading the software from the server (128) to the terminal (100, 102). In the method of the invention a first electronic signature confirming the authenticity of the software is attached to the software at the server (128). After the software is downloaded, a second electronic signature is generated at the terminal from the loaded software and the authenticity of the software is checked by comparing the first electronic signature with the second.

  • Patent number: 6650348
Abstract: A system and method employ a hierarchical data structure wherein nodes in the structure have a parent/child as well as a temporal relationship. Accordingly, the parent-child relationship of various nodes may change as a function of time. This hierarchical structure is part of a system employed to schedule content on a web site or web page that changes over time.

  • Patent number: 6651084
Abstract: A system and method for adding a plug-in to a web browser, the system and method comprising providing a general functions list that lists at least one function that can be performed by at least one registered plug-in through the web browser, and selecting one function that a user would like to add to the web browser from the general functions list. In one preferred embodiment, the system and method further comprise generating a specific plug-ins list that lists at least one registered plug-in that can perform the selected function, and selecting one registered plug-in to perform the selected function from the specific plug-ins list. In one preferred embodiment, the system and method comprise the selecting of a registered plug-in from a general plug-ins list that lists at least one registered plug-in, and the providing of a specific functions list that lists every function that the selected registered plug-in can perform.

  • Patent number: 6643685
Abstract: The invention operates in an MS/Exchange network comprising a plurality of servers each having a plurality of user subscribers and, for example, an Internet gateway server. The servers have unique X400 attributes and are adapted to independently allocate email aliases. The method of the invention creates unique Internet aliases for users by: exporting a user directory from a mail server in the network to the gateway server, the user directory containing a plurality of user X400 address attributes dependent on the unique attribute of the user's mail server; extracting from the directory an X400 mail address attribute for each user; and from the mail address attribute generating an Internet alias for the gateway.
