  • Patent number: 7042834
Abstract: A method and system for determining route redistribution are disclosed. The method generally comprises receiving an information packet from a neighbor source. The information packet identifies the source as a stub router and specifies route types that the source will advertise. Upon receiving notice of a failed link within the network, query packets are sent only to neighboring devices that have not been identified as stub routers to request route information.

  • Patent number: 7039039
Abstract: Disclosed is a Quality-of-Service (QoS) Support method in a mobile communication system including an access terminal, an access network for performing packet data communication with the access terminal, a packet control function for controlling transmission and reception of packet data between the access network and the access terminal, and a packet data service node for exchanging packet data with the packet control function. The access terminal maps a requirement based on an application characteristic to an IP QoS parameter, generates a resource reservation protocol message, and transmits the resource reservation protocol message to the packet data service node. The packet data service node maps IP QoS information to be transmitted to the access terminal to QoS information needed in the access network, and transmits the mapping result to the access network via the packet control function.

  • Patent number: 7035204
Abstract: The present invention discloses a method and apparatus for rerouting high-speed telecommunications signals within a network element (NE). Data circuits are defined as the interface cards within the NE that receive a particular data stream. In the event that one or more of the interface cards associated with a particular data circuit is removed, the NE can reroute the data stream so that the data circuit is maintained. The rerouting is accomplished by creating a stitching table, which defines the previous stitch and next stitch for each port on a cross-connect unit. Thus, when one stitch is lost, the table enables the apparatus to reroute the data stream around the lost stitch. That is, the data circuit is stitched together when one or more elements of the data circuit are removed.

  • Patent number: 7035226
Abstract: Upon reception of a label request for a new flow, a path setup device searches label switched paths (LPSs) which have already been set up for comparison with a path contained in the label request. If there exists an LSP of the same path as that in the label request, the same label as that of the LSP is allocated. If no such LSP exists, a new label is allocated. An LSP is set up based on the allocated label.

  • Patent number: 7023838
Abstract: The invention is directed to a method and to a communication system for handling a packet service with a packet-based core communication network (CNW) and an access communication network (ANW). According to the invention, the transmission of multimedia data in the packet data can be controlled by the edge node (EN) arranged at an interface between the core communication network (CNW) and an access communication network (ANW) and can be integrated into the data transmission from and to the mobile communication device (MS) via the air interface of the access communication network. The advantage of the invention is that the edge node enables an active intervention into the signalling of the transmission of the multimedia data as packet data, i.e., this signalling need no longer ensue transparently to the mobile communication device.

  • Patent number: 6999447
Abstract: A Voice Over Internet Protocol (VOIP) receiver (630), operating in conjunction with a transmitter (606) receives a sequence of voice packets representing a speech utterance transmitted over a VOIP wireless interface (112). A receive packet buffer (120) buffers the received sequence of voice packets after receipt and before playback of reconstructed speech. A processor (650), operating under program control, determines a transmission buffer (108) delay of a first packet in the sequence of packets representing the speech utterance. The control processor (650) further sets a prescribed amount of delay in the receive packet buffer (120) based upon the transmission buffer (108) delay so that the transmission buffer delay+receive buffer delay=a predetermined total delay.

  • Patent number: 6993013
Abstract: A telecommunications network includes a switch configured for handling a VOIP call and a monitoring system, coupled to the switch, for identifying service deficiencies for a customer originating the VOIP call. In connection with the VOIP call, the switch handles a series of signaling messages. By sequentially examining the signaling messages handled by the switch after the messages are merged into a single, chronologically ordered file, the monitoring system identifies service deficiencies for the customer, thereby enabling initiation of proactive remedial action to address the identified service deficiencies. Service deficiencies are identified based upon an examination of one or more signaling messages. Warning messages generated to identify the service deficiencies may have customer information appended thereto, thereby enhancing the ability of the service provider to proactively initiate remedial action prior to receipt of a complaint from the affected customer.

  • Patent number: 6973067
Abstract: A method and apparatus are described establishing multimedia communications on a shared communications channel. A first and a second communication unit, such as a master and slave unit, establish a synchronous communications link. Additional synchronous communications links may be established. A first data packet associated with the synchronous communication link is communicated to the second communication unit by including an address. Time slots reserved for the synchronous channel by the first unit are separated by a fixed time interval. One or more additional communications units may communicate over an asynchronous link established between the master and additional units using remaining time slots. Data packets may be communicated to additional units by including addresses associated with each additional units The synchronous link may be interrupted with the asynchronous link by communicating an asynchronous data packet on a time slot reserved for the synchronous communications link.

  • Patent number: 6973060
Abstract: A method for presenting information to a mobile station that is transmitted during a common idle frame that consists of a set of time slots, comprising arranging individual transmissions such that the mobile station is enabled to receive all pertinent information from a subset of timeslots of the idle frame, without regard for what traffic time slot or slots the mobile station is assigned to. The individual transmissions originate from individual ones of a plurality of base stations, and the base stations are operated so as to alternate or rotate the transmission of bursts within the idle frame. Depending on a number of different bursts to be sent, a particular burst transmitted from one base station is never transmitted in the same time slot during two consecutive idle frames. In a presently preferred, but not limiting, embodiment of this invention the bursts are SCH bursts transmitted from base stations in a synchronous GSM telecommunications system.

  • Patent number: 6973083
Abstract: A data processing circuit capable of selecting data of a specified channel without using an externally provided circuit for channel selection and outputting the same to a data transfer path, wherein channel identification data is extracted from input data in the application interface circuit based on a packet enable signal input from an MPEG transporter, the extracted channel identification data and channel specifying data are compared. The packet enable signal is output as a packet enable signal to a pre-transmission processing signal when they are identical from the comparison result, while a packet enable signal indicating invalidity is output to the pre-transmission processing circuit when they are not identical.

  • Patent number: 6970421
Abstract: A plurality of ATM links are transmitted via a connecting section. If a further transmitting device wishes to make a call, it is first of all necessary to check whether this new ATM link can still be multiplexed onto the connecting section. The known sigma rule algorithm is used for this purpose in the prior art. In order to achieve better utilization of the transmission capacity, the class used in this prior art is now subdivided into a plurality of sub-classes. The best class for the transmission is thus then selected.
