  • Patent number: 8706160
Abstract: A multimedia multimodal dynamic user interface for mobile/wireless devices is introduced in present invention. With this mechanism, service providers can offer rich user oriented applications and they have the freedom to explore new applications easily. A voice call path and a data path are setup for each call request to support the user interface and the device information is sent to a server during the call setup procedure. The user interface offers virtual user to user interaction by integrating multi-media with multi modal interactions. A user may enter inputs through multiple modals and inputs are synchronized and delivered to a server for processing.

  • Patent number: 8634840
Abstract: A telecommunication system comprises a radio network controller (RNC), and a Node-B (NB) for enabling wireless communication with a user terminal (UE). The RNC establishes an enhanced dedicated transport channel (E-DCH) which enables uplink data traffic with a determined maximum data rate from the user terminal (UE) to the NB. The RNC further establishes a high speed DL shared channel (HS-DSCH) which enables downlink data traffic with a determined maximum data rate from the NB to the user terminal. The NB comprises a HSDPA scheduler (HS-S) scheduling the data rate for the DL data traffic via the HS-DSCH and a EUL scheduler (EUL-S) scheduling the maximum data rate for the UL data traffic via the E-DCH. The NB exchanges data rate information between the HS-S and the EUL-S. Furthermore, the NB monitors the quotient (Q) between DL data rate and the UL data rate.

  • Patent number: 8606283
Abstract: The invention relates to methods, a user equipment and a communication network entity for optimizing the radio resource utilization in a communication network system comprising a network side and a user equipment side between which data is transmitted on uplink (17) and downlink (16) channels with a transmit power and said user equipment (18) is arranged to adjust said transmit power on said uplink channels (17) according to gain factors received from said network side, wherein said user equipment (18) is located in a location area of said communication network system. The gain factors are transmitted to the user equipment (18) solely when the user equipment (18) accesses the network system instead of transmitting gain factors during every session setup as long as the user equipment (18) is in said location area.

  • Patent number: 8583132
Abstract: Systems and methodologies are described that provide efficient channel assignment and communication for a wireless communication network. System resources can be allocated for a traffic channel for communication between a base station and a terminal in a physical layer frame, a portion of which can be made available for an acknowledgement channel. Resources for the acknowledgement channel can then be allocated such that the resources allocated for the acknowledgement channel occupy only a portion of the resources available for the acknowledgement channel within the resources allocated for the traffic channel. By scheduling the acknowledgement channel such that it occupies only a portion of the resources available to it, traffic data and acknowledgements can be communicated in the wireless communication system on their respective channels more efficiently.

  • Patent number: 8494549
Abstract: A service may request the location of a network client in order to deliver advertisements for goods and services that are geographically near the client. It is desirable for the network to provide an obscured, or approximate, location to protect the privacy of the client. The network queries the client for its PN list. From the PN list, the network determines the active cell sectors and active cell towers. The network determines all cell sectors associated with the active cell towers, and excludes the sectors that encompass the client. From the non-excluded sectors, a cell sector is randomly selected. A geographic location is randomly selected from within the cell sector. A region that encompasses the geographic location is determined, and an identifier associated with the region, such as a ZIP code, is sent to the service. The exact location of the client cannot be determined from the regional identifier.

Abstract: Systems and methodologies are described that provide interlace-based scheduling for control channels in a wireless communication system. One or more control channels for communication between a base station and a mobile terminal in the wireless communication system may be scheduled on one or more frame interlaces in the system based on one or more conditions of each frame interlace in the system. These conditions may include overhead balance between the frame interlaces, processing timeline optimization for the frame interlaces at the scheduling base station, and the desirability of discontinuous transmission (DTX) at a mobile terminal.

  • Patent number: 8254930
Abstract: Methods and systems for a wireless communication device (WCD) to change a media session codec prior to handoff to a new wireless coverage area are presented. In particular, a WCD is served by a first wireless coverage area of a RAN, and is conducting a media session using a first codec. The WCD detects that it is about to be handed off to a second wireless coverage area, and transmits a request to a server to determine the capacity available to the WCD via the second wireless coverage area. If this capacity is less than the capacity request by the first codec, the WCD proactively renegotiates the media session to use a second codec that requires less capacity. The server may take various factors into account when responding to the WCD's query, including the sector loading of the second wireless coverage area, available capacity at a backhaul link between the RAN and a network, and/or a profile of the WCD.
