  • Patent number: 5765882
Abstract: An automobile decklid pop-up bumper for assembly with an apertured workpiece, such as the framework of an automobile engine compartment having an aperture and a helical internal marginal portion defined around the aperture, includes a housing with an enlarged end portion for engaging the automobile hood and a shank portion extending from the enlarged end portion adapted to be received through the aperture. The shank portion has a helical thread for threadingly engaging the helical marginal portion around the aperture when the bumper is assembled with the workpiece. The housing has an axial bore with a portion of reduced radius within the enlarged end portion. The portion of reduced radius defines a shoulder.

  • Patent number: 5685581
Abstract: An actuating assembly for a motor-vehicle door latch has a handle extending longitudinally on an outside of the panel and having one end coupled to the latch and another end projecting through the panel and provided with a fork having a longitudinally open seat. A backing plate on an inside of the panel is provided with a transversely extending pivot bar engaged in the seat of the fork. The handle is pivotal about an axis of the bar between a rest position relatively close to the door and an outer actuated position pulled out from the door. Interengaging formations on the bar and in the seat block longitudinal displacement of the handle relative to the backing plate except in the rest position of the handle so that when the handle is moved to or beyond the outer actuated position the formations prevent removal of the handle from the door.

  • Patent number: 5683126
Abstract: The dumpster dual locking assembly includes a housing having two side walls each having an opening. Extending through the openings is a rotatable sleeve which has at one end a flange with a hole for receiving the barrel of a padlock. A rotation bar, which also has at one end a flange with a hole for receiving the barrel of a padlock, extends through and is rotatable relative to the sleeve. A locking bar for securing the hinged lid of a dumpster is coupled to the rotation bar. Both the sleeve and the rotation bar can be manually locked together by placing a lock through their flanges. When the dumpster is upright, a gravitational lock prevents the sleeve from rotating in the housing. The gravitational lock includes a support fixed to the sleeve, a pendulum supported at one end by and rotatable relative to the support, and a latch. The latch locks into a catch mounted on the interior surface of the housing when the dumpster is upright.

  • Patent number: 5683125
Abstract: A motor-vehicle door latch has a latching fork and a release pawl engageable with the fork and pivotal between a latched position retaining the fork and an unlatched position. An inside door handle displaceable between a center rest position, an end open position, and an end locked position is connected to one end of the core of a bowden cable having a sheath fixed to the housing. A first actuating lever pivotal about an axis offset from the locking-lever axis has an arm and is connected to the other end of the cable core for joint movement of the first actuating lever with the inside handle. A second actuating lever pivotal between an actuated and an unactuated position has a formation engageable with the first actuating lever.

  • Patent number: 5683124
Abstract: A latching device (5) including a housing (7) with a latching member (15) connected through track followers (16,17) to a track (10,11,12,13,14) in the housing (7). A lever (6) pivotally connected to the housing (7) has a track follower (20) engaged in a track (21) in the latching member (15). A lug (18) on the latching member (15) is disposed adjacent an opening in the housing (7) dimensioned to receive a latch lug (4). Pivotal movement of lever (6) causes movement of follower (2) in the track (21) with resultant planar movement of the latching member (15) as the track followers (16,17) traverse the track (10,11,12,13,14) the shape of which also produces movement of the lug (18) between extended and retracted positions relative to said housing opening.

  • Patent number: 5681067
Abstract: Plunger arrangements are used for retaining glass/screen inserts in frames. A plurality of caps are disposed around the insert and are disposed in one position for extending a spring biased plunger to engage the frame. The caps are disposed in an other position against the spring bias to retract the plunger from the frame. The arrangement is such that the cap remains in the other position without being held thereat by a user, whereby the user's hands are free to manipulate the insert in or out of the frame.

  • Patent number: 5669256
Abstract: A door lock mechanism includes a retainer housing mounted to a doorframe and a chain housing mounted to a door plate. The retainer housing includes a retaining slot defined in a lateral side thereof and a lock core mounted therein. A lock piece is pivotally received in the retaining slot and is releasably engaged with the retaining member. A chain is mounted in the chain housing and includes a fixed first end and a second end to which a slide bolt is securely attached. The slide bolt is releasably, slidably received in the retaining slot of the retainer housing. When in a locked position and when a release button is in its first position, the lock piece is stopped by the retaining member and the slide bolt is retained in the retaining slot and thus allows the door to be opened for a small gap.

  • Patent number: 5634676
Abstract: A power door lock actuator including: a housing; a bi-directional electric motor; a threaded shaft drivingly connected with the drive shaft of the motor; a drive armature threadingly engaged with the threaded shaft, wherein the drive armature has a first abutment at its distal end; a driven armature which is axially slidable relative to the drive armature over a preset distance of travel determined by a second abutment at its distal end and a third abutment spaced the preset distance from the distal end; a first spring which biases the drive armature toward a one end of the threaded shaft; and a second spring which biases the drive armature toward the other end of the threaded shaft When the motor is not operating the first and second springs cooperate to biasably locate the drive armature to a neutral position so that lost motion travel of the driven armature with respect to the drive armature is provided and the motor is not back-driven whenever the lock mechanism is manually actuated.
