  • Patent number: 5724413
Abstract: A conventional computer is coupled to an analog telephone transmission link by an analog/digital conversion interface adapter. Modem transmission is accomplished by performing the modulation and demodulation functions digitally in the computer's existing processor which executes programs which transfer data between the computer's memory and the interface adapter. Using the same interface adapter and existing processor, the arrangement may be used to send and receive images in the form of standard V.29 format facsimile data, to send and receive data operating as a synchronous IBM 3270 compatible terminal device, or to record and play back conventional voice transmissions rather than data to implement a telephone answering, voice message handling, and telemarketing systems.

  • Patent number: 5666152
Abstract: A method and apparatus for testing the operation of a videophone wherein a rotating body having a visual pattern of contrasting visual shapes is placed within the visual field of the videophone. The videophone is connected to a communication path which in turn is connected to a display. A control device varies at least one of the rotational speed of the rotating body and the characteristics of the communication path, while an image of the rotating body is observed on the display.

  • Patent number: 5635980
Abstract: A broadband customer premises equipment ("CPE") interface device interfaces with conventional telephones, screen phones, and broadband data and video devices. The interface device includes circuitry to connect with a telephone network via a first telephone connection and circuitry to connect with a broadband network via a second, broadband connection. The interface device can provide control of video information being pumped to the CPE via the broadband network by sending control signals to a video server via the telephone network. In addition, the interface device includes ADSI off-hook alerting ("AOHA") circuitry and adds ADSI script management server ("ASMS") circuitry to provide noninvasive programming of screen phone-type CPE devices. ASMS programming information for a CPE device is transferred to the interface device via the broadband network and stored in the interface device.

  • Patent number: 5606599
Abstract: An enhanced micro-controller having multiple operating modes, including an idle mode, an analog voice mode, a digital data mode, and a simultaneous voice and data mode, and control logic for establishing multiple logical connections and voice as well as data transmission protocols over these logical connections with another DCE, when switching from the analog voice mode to the simultaneous voice and data mode, is provided to a DCE designed to support multi-modal voice and/or data calls over a single analog-loop telephone line. In one embodiment, the establishment of the voice transmission protocol includes joint negotiation of the voice compression/decompression algorithm to be used by the mode transition initiating and responding DCEs.
