Patent number: 8290519Abstract: Methods and systems are described for providing a presence service that is useful for mobile telecommunications devices. A plurality of outgoing presence updates are sent to a presence client. The system monitors the level of network traffic and determines whether the client is in a region of high network load, and if so, the system throttles the outgoing presence updates during the condition of high network load. The level of throttling may depend at least in part on the amount of time that has elapsed since the presence client began a presence session, and/or the amount of time that has elapsed since an incoming presence update was received from the presence client. In determining the latter amount of elapsed time, the system may consider only the amount of time elapsed since an incoming non-automatic presence update was received from the presence client.Type: GrantFiled: September 22, 2011Date of Patent: October 16, 2012Assignee: Spring Spectrum L.P.Inventors: Yaojun Sun, Jing Qu, Joseph Schaedler, Wei-Ming Lan, Douglas R. Patent number: 8271054Abstract: A method, programmed medium and system are disclosed which provide for user-controlled management of power requirements for mobile devices. The system enables the user to determine and adjust power settings according to time-related goals set by the end user. The end user, in one example, may specify a goal in hours, minutes or a predetermined date/time and the power management function displays, for example, various combinations of power-down options on specific system devices which can be implemented to achieve power availability for the specified amount of time. The user is enabled to select which of the displayed combination power-down option schemes to implement in order to best suit the user's application requirements during the time frame in which the power-saving scheme will be implemented in order to maximize power-saving while still providing optimum functionality for the user's particular application.Type: GrantFiled: November 15, 2010Date of Patent: September 18, 2012Assignee: International Business Machines CorporationInventors: Michael Andrew Bockus, Derek Ryan Brewer, Robert Dale Wilhelm

Patent number: 8265660Abstract: Methods are described for handling an incoming call at a mobile switching center when the mobile station is currently in either an access state (in the process of making an outgoing call) or in a paging state (in the process of receiving an earlier incoming call). The mobile switching center waits until the mobile station transitions out of the access state or paging state into a traffic state. The mobile switching center sends an alert message to the mobile station alerting the user of the new incoming call. The mobile switching center handles the incoming call per a response to the alert message. One option would be to send the new incoming call to the user and drop the other incoming call (or the outgoing call). Another option would be to direct the incoming call to voice mail. In either case, the handling of the incoming call is per the user's direction, i.e., as dictated by the response message.Type: GrantFiled: September 28, 2007Date of Patent: September 11, 2012Assignee: Sprint Spectrum L.P.Inventors: Sachin Vargantwar, Kamal Doshi, Anoop Goyal, Manoj Shetty, Siddharth Oroskar

Patent number: 8190151Abstract: LBS support to CDMA mobiles while roaming on another network. IS-801 session data is routed by a routing gateway to a correct visited network PDE that contains correct BSA data, which is used to return assistance data to an interrogating mobile device. A standalone exemplary roaming LBS routing gateway (XRG) provides network connectivity between PDE equipment in multiple carrier networks. Conventional LBS roaming support is defined via the use of Mobile Position Centers (MPCs). The invention implements a roaming LBS gateway to enable roaming between CDMA carriers that are only using a PDE (Positioning Determining Entity) for this purpose, since a mobile position center (MPC) is typically an optional network node according to location based services (LBS) specifications.Type: GrantFiled: May 17, 2011Date of Patent: May 29, 2012Assignee: TeleCommunication Systems, Inc.Inventors: Myron D'Souza, Gordon John Hines, David Bartnik, Joseph Hannan, Joel Groen, William Wells
