  • Patent number: 6569015
Abstract: The apparatus and method of the present invention provides a gaming device having a separately changeable value and multiplier bonus scheme. The bonus scheme begins when a triggering event occurs during normal operation of the gaming device. Initially, the game displays a value and a multiplier to the player, which form an offer. The game enables the player to keep the offer or change either the value or the multiplier. If the player changes either, the game changes the value or multiplier selected by the player, and yields a new offer. In the preferred embodiment of the bonus scheme, the player can keep the new offer or change the value or multiplier and obtain a final new offer. After the player can no longer change the value or multiplier or if at any time the player keeps an offer, the bonus scheme ends by adding the amount of the offer to the player's gaming device credit, and the player resumes normal play.

  • Patent number: 6558256
Abstract: A cashless peripheral method interfacing with a gaming system. The gaming system issues a “cash-out” signal when a player quits playing and receives a “cash-in” signal when a player desires to play a game in the gaming system. A stack of unprinted tickets is stored in the interior of the device. A ticket printer prints a coded value, such as a bar code, on a ticket in response to a cash-out signal from the gaming system. A ticket reader reads the amount printed on the ticket. If the printed value corresponds to the value which should have been printed, a ticket-out transport delivers the printed ticket to the player cashing out from the gaming system. When a player inserts the printed ticket into the device a ticket-in transport senses the insertion and the ticket reader reads the coded value from the inserted printed ticket. The ticket reader issues a cash-in signal to the gaming system corresponding to the value read from the coded value on the inserted printed ticket.

  • Patent number: 6537150
Abstract: A gaming apparatus and method first determines an outcome, and then maps that outcome to a symbol which is displayed to a player. In general, for each possible outcome, there may be a plurality of possible symbols, and the system selects a symbol by a random selection technique. The method can be practiced both for lottery-type games and non-lottery games. In the case of lotteries, the system determines the outcome by selecting a game set element from a finite pool, each game set element being associated with a particular value. The system then maps the game set element to an appropriate symbol to be displayed to the player. In another embodiment, the system can be programmed to allow the results of the game to be affected by the skill of the player. If the player plays optimally, the system can award the maximum possible value. If the player plays in a sub-optimal manner, the system can award an amount which is less than or equal to the maximum.

  • Patent number: 6520864
Abstract: In a method for assisting a golf player in tracking golf shots comprises, a video camera is operated at one point along a golf course fairway to generate a video signal encoding an image of a plurality of substantially stationary objects and of a target golf ball moving relative to the stationary objects. A computer is operated to process the video signal to detect the target golf ball, to automatically determine a path of motion of the target golf ball, and to modify at least a portion of the video signal to superimpose on a display of the stationary objects a curvilinear indication of the determined path of motion of the target golf ball. The camera is moved along the fairway toward the resting golf ball. The image displayed in modified to incorporate the changing view of the fairway, as well as a changed portion of the golf ball's path.

  • Patent number: 6511375
Abstract: The present provides a gaming device bonus round that contains a plurality of groups each having a plurality of selections that the player can pick and receive an award. The groups and selections form a theme that provides enjoyment and excitement to the player. The game enables the player to pick a predetermined number of selections from each group. After the player picks from each selection group, the game uncovers, reveals and awards an award hidden underneath and the awards of selections that the player did not choose. The bonus round includes audio and visual displays, in accordance with the game theme, that either direct or follow along with the player's progress of the bonus round. As the player proceeds through the bonus round, the game accumulates the awards and displays the accumulation at the end of the round.

  • Patent number: 6508710
Abstract: A system and method for providing an automated gaming service to one or more players can be implemented in a computer-based environment allowing automated computation of wagers, payouts, and other gaming parameters. The automated gaming system can be implemented in an Internet or other network-type environment such that various players can access the automated gaming system from remote locations, thus establishing a virtual gaming environment. Player accounts can be established and players can be granted access to the system and to their accounts. The accounts can be set up as debit-type accounts, whereby a player funds or replenishes his or her account in advance of wagering, using a credit card or other payment technique. Various gaming environments or formats can be established to provide flexibility in implementing the system and handling various games or other events. The system can use a pari-mutuel or guaranteed-payout gaming formats, among others.

  • Patent number: 6439995
Abstract: The apparatus and method of the present invention provides a gaming device having a bonus round with multiple selection groups. The bonus round does not end upon an “end-bonus” selection; rather, the bonus round ends upon the selection of a predetermined number of selections from the last or final selection group. In one embodiment of the present invention, the number of selections is determined from a selection group preceding the final selection group. Prior to determining the number of final selection group picks, the present invention provides the player with at least one selection group in which the player selects award indicators until selecting an indicator that advances the player to the next selection group. Player excitement and enjoyment is enhanced because the present invention provides the player with multiple opportunities to achieve game credits and because the player is guaranteed to have at least one opportunity to select from the final selection group.

  • Patent number: 6416409
Abstract: A system and method are set for providing a progressive bonus to eligible devices in a set of linked gaming machines. A server is linked to the machines and from wagers accumulates a bonus pool. Each machine has a designated bonus outcome which, if obtained, causes the system to select from a set of displays, a bonus display for the machine. The bonus display remains until another bonus outcome is obtained and another bonus display is selected or the machine falls from the set of eligible machines based upon lack of play or the like. The system periodically selects a bonus prize and compares it to the bonus pool to make sure the pool is sufficient to award the prize. If the pool is greater than or equal to the selected prize, the system selects a winning bonus corresponding to a bonus display of the set and awards the prize to any eligible machine displaying the selected bonus display.

  • Patent number: 6398651
Abstract: In a storage medium storing a program, a storage device and a game device, a card game having rich variety can be implemented by determining win or loss on the basis of various judgement criteria. The cards used in the card game are divided into a plurality of groups which have continuous, cyclical strength differential relationships between the respective groups. The card game does not depend solely on the capability index of each card. Moreover, a variation of the card game can be increased by preparing trap cards which impart various functions and actions on the opponent's cards. Moreover, by including field card representing competition environments and causing the capability indices creature cards to vary according to the competition environment, a more interesting card game can be enjoyed by the game device.

  • Patent number: 6319120
Abstract: An electronic game apparatus requiring skill in which one or more players individually attempt to outmaneuver the game apparatus on a time limit and motion or presence sensing detecting basis. Each player starts a play cycle of an electronic circuit within the game apparatus by manually pressing a start button on the housing. The player then has a preselected first period of time, e.g. five seconds, during which the presence sensor is deactivated to distance himself sufficiently from the game apparatus so that his presence would not be sensed by the motion detector of the apparatus at the end of the first time period. At the end of the first time period, the presence sensor is activated and the player has a certain second time period, e.g. ten seconds, to stealthfully reapproach the game apparatus without his or her presence being detected and to disarm the game apparatus by pressing a stop button or area of the housing.
