  • Patent number: 7158544
Abstract: A device and method for controlling data unit communications between a sender and a receiver, and flexibly responding to a potential data loss event. Data to be sent are divided into data units and transmitted from the sender to the receiver. If the receiver fails to receive a data unit, the sender retransmits the data unit using a flow control procedure using adaptive parameters. The sender inserts a mark in each transmitted data unit indicating whether each data unit is an original transmission or a retransmission. For each data unit correctly received, the receiver inserts the corresponding mark in an acknowledgment data unit and sends the acknowledgment to the sender. The sender determines whether the correctly received data unit was an original transmission or a retransmission based on the mark or by comparing the round-trip time for the acknowledged data unit with a predetermined round-trip time for an original transmission.

  • Patent number: 7148826
Abstract: A data input circuit converts input serial data to n-bit parallel data, and outputs the n-bit parallel data by following an address signal. The data input circuit includes a data shifting unit including a plurality of columns, and sequentially shifting the input serial data through the plurality of columns; and a selection unit selecting a column among the plurality of columns as an input column by following the address signal, wherein the input serial data is inputted to the data shifting unit through the input column. Thus, the data input device can speed up its processing speed with a simplified circuit structure whose circuit size is reduced.

  • Patent number: 7139791
Abstract: A system for providing access to a data stream by a plurality of users at a same time. A data stream splitter manager listens for new client device connections. When a new client device connection is identified, the data stream splitter manager generates a pseudo-terminal for the client device and adds the client device and pseudo-terminal information to a data stream splitter table. In addition, a data stream splitter is generated to handle the data transfer. The data stream splitter searches the data stream splitter table for client devices participating in a system resource sharing session. The data stream splitter sends a data stream associated with the shared system resource to the associated client device pseudo-terminals. Also, the data stream splitter sends data from the client devices to the pseudo-terminals and then to the data stream. Consequently, client devices involved in the session has shared system resource access.

  • Patent number: 7136659
Abstract: A visit to an overhead channel to obtain base station identifiers is made if it is necessary to do so. Base station identifiers are indicative of an approximate location of a terminal. The determination to update the base station identifiers may be made by monitoring one or more base stations in the terminal's active set. In another aspect, the terminal can originate a new data call immediately after the necessary base station identifiers have been obtained from the overhead channel, without having to wait for the expiration of a timer (e.g., the dormant timer). Moreover, by maintaining the data session when terminating the data call for the overhead visit, data communication may be more quickly resumed, for a new data call originated after the overhead visit, using the same configured protocols.

  • Patent number: 7126954
Abstract: A virtual gateway bridges voice and related signaling traffic between multiple endpoints behind the same or different Network Address Translation devices or firewalls or neither. The virtual gateway also serves as a mixer when used in a teleconferencing mode, which handles a number of endpoints that are behind the same Network Address Translation device or firewall or not. In this mode, the virtual gateway mixes packets on its incoming side with other packets on its incoming side so that all outgoing packets include voice (or other) data from all sources. The embodiments herein may be used with Voice over IP (VoIP) connections and applications, as well as other applications in which two or more endpoints are attempting to establish a communications channel and their IP addresses are otherwise not suitable for the communications application.

  • Patent number: 7110351
Abstract: A method and apparatus are provided for error correction in a communication system employing Orthogonal Frequency Division Multiplexing. When a remote unit receives an OFDM symbol, a retransmission indicator bit is examined to determine whether the symbol is an original symbol or a retransmitted symbol. If it is a retransmitted symbol and the remote unit has a corresponding symbol stored in memory, then the received symbol is soft-combined with the stored symbol. Each packet in the symbol, either the received symbol if original or the soft-combined symbol if retransmitted, is examined by the remote unit. If the remote unit determines that a particular packet is intended for the remote unit, but can not determine the contents of the payload of the packet, the remote unit sends a retransmission request to the base station for retransmission of the symbol.

  • Patent number: 7092412
Abstract: A method and apparatus for extending existing fiber and local area networks across digital subscriber lines, at matching data rates is disclosed. A DSL transceiver system is disclosed with one or more gateways coupled to at least one digital signal processor (DSP). The DSP in turn couples to a plurality of analog-front-ends (AFE's). Each AFE is coupled via associated hybrid front ends (HFE's) to corresponding subscriber lines. The transceiver or a controller coupled thereto maintains a table of bandwidth requirements and frame types for a variety of sessions. Individual sessions include bandwidth requirements beyond existing XDSL capabilities. The system determines frametype, e.g. 802 and bandwidth requirements, e.g. 100 Mbps for each session and allocates more than one subscriber line accordingly. For each session the divergent bandwidth availability of each of the subscriber lines to which the DSP may be coupled is determined and all or a portion of that bandwidth is allocated to the selected session.

  • Patent number: 7065081
Abstract: A telecommunication carrier processor subsystem (CPS) adapted to receive cells (1, 2), preferably ATM cells, and to derive from the H-bit header field thereof a smaller set of R bits. The set of R bits is not only used to route the cell to a predetermined output of the subsystem but is also combined with a second set of D bits for replacing the VPI/VCI bits in the H-bit header field of the cell. The second set of D bits may be used for transmitting information data such as user data, control or command transmission. It may also be used for hand-over process or cell duplication and is then particularly suited for broadband local access applications relating to low earth orbit satellite constellations. Preserving the global ATM cell header size while using the freed D bits after changing the connection identifier range is called in-band control. It allows using off the shelf components for the cell transmission between sub-systems, boards or components.

  • Patent number: 7039641
Abstract: The novel method and system for classifying packets through the use of filters combines heuristic tree search with the use of filter buckets. This provides high performance and reasonable storage requirement, even when applied to large number of filters (from 4K to 1 million). In addition, the novel method can adapt to the input packet distribution by taking into account the relative filter usage. The capability of employing a large number of filters in a packet classifciation system is useful in providing value-added services, such as security, quality of service (QoS), load balancing, and traffic accounting.

  • Patent number: 7039004
Abstract: Current OFDM systems use a limited number of symbols and/or sub-channels to provide approximations for channel estimations and pilot tracking, i.e. phase estimations. For example, two training symbols in the preamble of a data packet are used to provide channel estimation. Four of the fifty-four sub-channels are reserved for providing phase estimation. However, noise and other imperfections can cause errors in both of these estimations, thereby degrading system performance. Advantageously, decision feedback mechanisms can be provided to significantly improve channel estimation and pilot tracking in OFDM systems. The decision feedback mechanisms can use data symbols in the data packet to improve channel estimation as well as data sub-channels to improve pilot tracking.
