  • Patent number: 7366499
Abstract: A visually-impaired person possessing a GPS-equipped cellular phone, or other mobile communications device, who wants to know their location, uses the cellular phone to call a location-announcement service. In response, the service queries the GPS receiver for the person's geographical coordinates, translates the coordinates into user-friendly information that is readily understandable by the person, and announces the user-friendly information to the person via the cellular phone, all without human involvement.

  • Patent number: 7295542
Abstract: In a mixed IEEE 802.11 network, a system and method are provided for preventing beacon delays. The method comprises: establishing communications between an IEEE 802.11e access point (QAP) and at least one IEEE 802.11 station (STA); determining a safety interval with an endpoint; generating red-zone transmissions; and, in response to the red-zone transmissions, preventing STAs from transmitting a message having a length that exceeds the safety interval endpoint. For example the safety interval endpoint may be the TBTT. More particularly, the method: calculates a safety interval duration in response a minimum PHY rate of the STA; and, maintains the calculated safety interval duration in response to preventing STAs from transmitting a message having a length that exceeds the safety interval endpoint. In one aspect of the method, a single red-zone transmission is sent having a length approximately equal to the duration of the safety interval.

  • Patent number: 7260421
Abstract: Compressed entertainment content such as audio or video or both includes additional aspects and operations associated their way. The compressed audio may be used to signal computers such as a telephone or reminder for an appointment. A melody line may be extracted from the audio, or the audio may be used exactly as it is. Another aspect stores traders within the entertainment content such as in MP3. Those traders are used to trigger the system to retrieve other parts of the content to be displayed at the same time that that particular part of the MP3 is being play. The content may include video or text, or maybe links to other content such as broadband content four times sensitive content. Another aspect describes encryption which is keyed to the disk ID to prevent playing oven illegally copied disk. Another aspect reads a specified amount of information then spins down the disk to conserve battery power.

  • Patent number: 7242677
Abstract: A link method for establishing a link between two bluetooth devices is provided to enable a device to transfer data to/from other device located in a bluetooth scatternet. The link method executes a link initialization procedure when resetting or initializing a link to determine whether the role of the bluetooth device at a dedicated link is a slave or master. Then, in the link search establishment procedure, it searches all possible paths for transferring data packet and establishes a link path table. Finally, when the link detection timer expires after a pre-determined period, the link detection procedure is resumed to detect whether the link is existed. If the link is not existed, the link initialization procedure is executed; otherwise, it further determines whether to execute the link initialization procedure again. If yes, the link initialization procedure is executed, otherwise the link detection procedure is executed.

  • Patent number: 7162211
Abstract: Methods and apparatus for scheduling mobile stations (MSs) to download data and/or to control the rate of downloading to an MS from a base station (BS) as a function of downlink channel condition information are described. Artificial channel variations, which can be measured at the MS, and feedback to a BS for scheduling purposes, are introduced through the use of two or more transmitter antennas at a BS. Each of the antennas transmits a signal at the same frequency having the same information content, e.g., modulated data. However the signals are made to differ with time in their phase and/or amplitude to introduce what appear to be channel variations to the MSs.

  • Patent number: 7149522
Abstract: A method improves mobility and service recovery for a user in a wireless communication network. Service information concerning the user is stored in a registrar. A subscription message is sent from a user terminal to the registrar. A header in the subscription message contains a unique indication. In response to the subscription message containing a unique indication in a header, the registrar returns a notification message to the user terminal. The payload of the notification message includes service information for the user to be used by the user terminal for communication services.

  • Patent number: 7142807
Abstract: A method of providing a Karaoke service to mobile terminals through wireless connection between them. The mobile terminals are grouped as a service group and one of them is designated as a master mobile terminal and the other mobile terminals as slave mobile terminals. The master mobile terminal is connected to a Karaoke service provider through a mobile communication network and controls service content to be received from the Karaoke service provider in all the mobile terminals of the service group. If the master mobile terminal transmits a play command to the slave mobile terminals, all the mobile terminals start to play Karaoke music according to the service contents.
