  • Patent number: 5794464
Abstract: A security device which includes a locking member, a ratchet member, and a plurality of cables. The cables extend through both a fastener and a base of the locking member and are wrapped around all six sides of a book or box-like structure. The fastener is releasably snap-fitted into the base and secured therein by a pair of metal tines. The ratchet member includes a housing containing a gear and bearing member which are latched together in a spaced relationship to form a reel and a pawl. A bottom plate encloses the contents of the housing. The gear includes a multi-sided key hole, a plurality of openings to secure enlarged ends of the cables therein, and a plurality of teeth. The gear and bearing member each include an annular nub which sits in and rotates around a corresponding bearing surface of the bottom plate and housing, respectively. The pawl has a catch and a resilient spring and communicates with the gear to allow the ratchet member to be turned only in one direction.

  • Patent number: 5794284
Abstract: Apparatus for aiding persons in rising or descending between seated and standing positions provides stability to a conventional walker. In a preferred embodiment, an apparatus has a platform portion and two flexible connection members. The platform portion is substantially rigid and includes two parallel rails. At forward end portions of the rails, openings are formed for pivotable attachment therethrough of the connection members. The connection members are also pivotably attached to a forward portion of the walker, so that when a person places his or her weight on the platform portion, the connection members transmit the weight to the walker, thereby stabilizing the walker.

  • Patent number: 5795118
Abstract: A tacking device for tacking a first member to a second member comprises a tacking member having a fusible plate and a pin having a bulged tip and projecting from the lower surface of the fusible plate; and a retaining member having a substantially cylindrical body provided with a plurality of catches on its outer circumference. The tacking member is rotated at a high rotating speed or vibrated with the fusible plate pressed against the first member so that the upper surface of the fusible plate is fused by frictional heat to weld the tacking member to the first member, the pin is inserted in the central hollow of the retaining member so that the expanded tip of the pin is caught by the retaining member to combine the tacking member and the retaining member, and the retaining member is forced into a hole formed in the second member so that the catches engage with the edge of the hole to tack the first member to the second member.

  • Patent number: 5791700
Abstract: A locking system for a window sash comprises a lock handle assembly, reciprocating rod members connected to the lock handle assembly, and rotatable cam assemblies connected to the rod members. Each cam assembly has a cam element which upon reciprocation of its respective rod element moves into and out of a cam keeper which is mounted on an adjacent window sash. Each rod member has a rod tip which moves into and out of a channel provided in the window frame. In a first operation of the lock handle assembly, the rod members are reciprocated inwardly to rotate the cam elements out of their respective cam keeper and to move the rod tips partially out of the frame channels which allows the window sash to be moved vertically within the channels. A further operation of the lock handle assembly moves the rod tips entirely out of the channels to allow the window sash to be tilted.

  • Patent number: 5787737
Abstract: A device for the chassis of a computer case that prevents unauthorized access to the internal components thereof is disclosed. The device includes a `U` shaped member, positioned primarily inside the chassis, such that if one arm is pulled forward against a spring bias through an aperture in the chassis by a user, the other arm of the `U` fastens the cover of the computer case to the base. In addition, an a hole positioned near the tip of the arm that is pulled through the aperture to allow the user to attach a locking mechanism to the fastening device, thus preventing the disengagement and the opening up of the computer case by others. As a result, expensive electrical components located inside the chassis, including a CPU, will not be accessible to outsiders. The user is free to select the type of locking mechanism that is attached to the fastening device.

  • Patent number: 5785480
Abstract: An adjustable nut is disclosed which has a body with an axial passageway therethrough for receiving a threaded shaft and a transverse bore communicating with the axial bore. A button is disposed in the transverse bore which has an elongate aperture passing radially therethrough. The elongate aperture intersects with the axial passageway such that said threaded shaft can pass through the elongate aperture. The button is urged out of the transverse bore by the biasing means but is secured within the transverse bore by the restrictive means to form an operative position and an inoperative position. The operative position mechanically interconnects mating threads on a distal end of the elongate aperture with threads on the threaded shaft. The adjustable nut can then be rotated to loosen or tighten the adjustable nut. The inoperative position is assumed when the button is depressed which moves the mating threads in the elongate aperture away from the threads on said threaded shaft.

  • Patent number: 5785364
Abstract: A motor-vehicle door latch has a door-mounted fork displaceable between an open and a fully latched position and through an intermediate semilatched position and a body-mounted door bolt engageable with the fork and retainable thereby only in the semilatched and fully latched positions. A door-mounted pawl can pivot about a pawl axis between a holding position engaging and retaining the fork in the fully latched and semilatched positions and a freeing position permitting the fork to move freely between its positions. A controller is connected to a servomotor in turn coupled to the door bolt for displacing same between an outer and an inner position so that, when the bolt is engaged with the fork in the fully latched position, movement of the bolt into the inner position pulls a door carrying the latch tightly closed. A switch lever can pivot about the pawl axis.

  • Patent number: 5784731
Abstract: A hydrodynamic sprung surface bearing having at least two bearing elements bearing against a tube-shaped container which is filled with a substantially incompressible medium, and against which side walls bear. Surfaces of the bearing elements bearing against the container are, in total, smaller by one order of magnitude than a surface of the container wall. Even for scarcely progressive, low pressure forces, the preferably T-shaped or anchor-shaped bearing elements cause overturning in a negative stroke direction, along with a pronounced change in shape of the container, and positive arching and consequently a very large coarse contour adaptation stroke. Therefore, a positively supporting adaptation stroke of the bearing elements is achieved. Overturning results in two separate chambers which bring about an inherent progressive damping by effectively reducing streaming through of the substantially incompressible medium.

  • Patent number: 5782594
Abstract: A fastener, for example a nut element, for attachment to a plate-like component with an end face of the fastener having a recess within a raised contact surface and a plurality of projections and undercuts are provided in a sidewall of the recess. The base surface of the recess extends up to the bore of the fastener without the presence of a pilot portion and a plurality of recesses are provided in the contact surface for resisting rotation. The die button which serves for the attachment of the fastener to a plate-like component has a hole-forming punch projection which has a plurality of noses distributed around the periphery in the region of the transition to the planar surface of the die button. On attachment of the hollow element to a plate-like component in a press, the sheet metal part is perforated by a hole punch and is molded in form-locked manner by the die button, in particular by its hole-forming punch projection, into the recess of the hollow element.
