  • Patent number: 7787382
Abstract: A method for calculating service redundancy of a wireless network is provided. The method comprises determining one or more of a plurality of routes through which a node can communicate to reach a destination. A routing metric is calculated for each of the plurality of routes. Using the calculated routing metrics a route having a best routing metric is identified as a best route to the destination. Service redundancy for each node within the wireless network is calculated using a sum of weighted ratios of the best routing metric to at least one alternate routing metric.

  • Patent number: 7774424
Abstract: A method and apparatus for determining a set of common link rates for communication between two storage network elements in a storage network system. During the speed negotiation process, a controlling storage network element receives supported link rate information from a connected storage network element without providing any information in return. By not providing such information, although the speed negotiation process may not be completed, the controlling storage network element is still able to determine the supported link rates of the connected storage network element.

  • Patent number: 7764741
Abstract: A radio frequency receiver for discriminating a modulation type to decode a signal field of an encoded signal in a wireless communication system. The radio frequency (RF) receiver receives an encoded signal having a preamble training sequence associated with a frame, the preamble training sequence including the signal field. The radio frequency receive generates at least a first log-likelihood ratio (LLR) stream and a second LLR stream for each of a plurality of sub-symbols for a predetermined portion of the received encoded signal based upon an m-bit wide modulation reference, wherein m represents the bit width of the modulation reference. The first LLR stream and the second LLR stream each include a plurality of LLR values. The plurality of LLR values of the first LLR stream are summed to produce a first cumulative LLR, and the plurality of LLR values of the second LLR stream are summed to produce a second cumulative LLR.

  • Patent number: 7752310
Abstract: A computer program, method, and apparatus that manage reservation of IT resources for efficient use thereof. Upon receipt of a reservation request, an IT resource finder identifies IT resources that are available for reservation in a period specified in the request. Subsequently a vacant period finder identifies vacant periods containing the specified reservation period, based on the reservation records of each IT resource. Out of the found vacant periods, an idlest period selector then selects an idlest period that offers a largest number of available IT resources. From among a set of IT resources whose vacant periods agree with the idlest period, an IT resource selector selects an appropriate resource to serve the given reservation request. A reservation registration processor then registers the reserved IT resource with the reservation data repository as determined by the IT resource selector.

  • Patent number: 7738604
Abstract: Discriminating a modulation type based upon a predetermined portion of symbols for a received encoded signal. While receiving the encoded signal, at least a first and a second cumulative soft metrics are generated using the plurality of symbols over a predetermined portion of the received encoded signal. The first cumulative soft metric is compared with the second cumulative soft metric to generate or provide a discriminated modulation type. With the discriminated modulation type, the signal field is decoded, allowing for decoding of the accompanying data payload with the encoded signal.

  • Patent number: 7733938
Abstract: An embodiment of an apparatus for channel assessment is provided, comprising a radio frequency (RF) unit, a baseband unit and a microprocessor control unit (MCU). The baseband unit coupling to the RF unit directs the RF unit to selectively hop into one of a plurality of available channels in a frequency band using a pseudorandom sequence to receive a plurality of packets via the hopped channel. The MCU coupling to the baseband unit accumulates a measure for the hopped channel according to reception results of the packets and marks the hopped channel as a bad channel when the accumulated measure exceeds a predetermined threshold. The measure represents the inaccuracy extent during packet reception via the hopped channel.

  • Patent number: 7689173
Abstract: A method and a system for controlling a reverse link rate by using the number of active users who are carrying out communication in a CDMA 1xEV-DO mobile communication system is disclosed. A value of rise-over-thermal (ROT) at each antenna end of a wireless base station is measured and compared with a threshold ROT which defines an allowable limit of the ROT. A reverse activation control bit is set as 0 if the measured ROT value is smaller than or equal to the threshold ROT. The number of the active users is compared with a threshold user number which defines an allowable limit of the active users if the measured ROT value is greater than the threshold ROT. The reverse activation control bit is set as 0 if the number of the active users is smaller than or equal to the threshold user number. The reverse activation control bit is set as 1 if the number of the active users is greater than the threshold user number.
