  • Patent number: 6957609
Abstract: The present invention relates to a method and a device for combating a pre-determined target with submunitions directed at the target from an airborne carrier in the form of a rocket, missile or equivalent (1) whereby the submunitions (17) are of the type whose main effect in target derives from impact with the target. As claimed in the present invention the submunitions (17) are given both a lateral motion vector (34) relative to the direction of flight of the carrier and a motion vector (35) in the direction of flight of the carrier. Jointly these motion vectors give the submunitions a resultant motion vector in a direction (36) towards the target.

  • Patent number: 6923122
Abstract: A device and method that employs a detonation event as an energy source for producing a pyrotechnic output. The device includes an initiation charge that is selectively detonated by an exploding foil initiator. Byproducts from the detonation event are attenuated by a barrier that is disposed between the initiation charge and an ignition charge. The barrier participates in a chemical reaction with the detonation byproducts to oxidize and burn. In this regard, the barrier serves as a fuel that is employed to ignite the ignition charge. The device includes a sealed housing in which the initiator, initiation charge and ignition charges are housed. The housing ruptures in response to the heat and pressure generated by the ignited ignition charge to release the pyrotechnic output.

  • Patent number: 6910422
Abstract: A method for producing a combustible cartridge case for cartridge ammunition, wherein an aqueous pulp containing nitrocellulose and cellulose fibers is produced, a raw felt is produced from the pulp through draining the fiber material on a sieve, and the raw felt is then compressed and shaped. To produce combustible cartridge cases possessing a greater mechanical stability than known cartridge cases of comparable dimensions, additives are mixed into the aqueous pulp prior to the production of the raw felt, to increase the stability of the fiber composite after the compressing process, so the breaking strength and the breaking elongation, and the resistance to tear propagation are increased. The additive is preferably a polymer material having a hydrophilic character and a high content of OH, NH2 and/or similar functional groups, and is capable of forming chemical bonds and/or engaging in intermolecular interaction with the cellulose or nitrocellulose molecules.

Under one aspect of the invention, a cased telescoped ammunition assembly includes a combustible case body and noncombustible end caps connected to opposing ends of the case body. The case body is configured to be substantially consumed in combustion when the ammunition assembly is fired. An internal support structure is positioned in the interior portion of the case body and connected to the end caps. The internal support structure and the end caps define a load-bearing unit that provides a load path substantially independent of the case body. The load-bearing unit is configured to react external loads, such that the combustible case body is substantially isolated from and does not react the external loads.

  • Patent number: 6881138
Abstract: With the intention of performing an optimal cutting of the hind feet (8) of the half carcasses (4), which are advanced stepwise on an overhead conveyor (6) suspended in the hind feet (8), there is indicated a method and a plant for performing an optimal hind foot cutting. According to the invention, cutting of the hind feet (8) occurs by the half carcasses (4) being gripped by pivoting gripping mechanisms (26) the clear of which in the gripping position not allowing the heel joint (29) to pass through this. As the variation of the thickness of the heel joint on a carcass is very small, a lifting of the ham (32) of the half carcass by displacing the gripping mechanisms (26) will result in the position of the thickest point of the heel joint being well-defined, whereby there is achieved a very great uniformity of the hind foot cutting by the same displacement pattern of the gripping mechanisms (26) in cross-wise direction in relation to saw blades (30) situated in a plane well-defined in advance.

  • Patent number: 6880486
Abstract: An improved nesting box for migratory waterfowl, especially for wood ducks, made of durable white plastic in a sleek, smooth and round canister shape. This wood duck house with round contours and a tight fitting lid deters predators from entry as there are no edges or ridges for predators to grasp. The ingress and egress hole is of sufficient size to allow a wood duck in flight to easily alight into the inside nesting area. The ingress hole is of sufficient length from the bottom of the canister to be longer then the reach of any predator. The invention provides a mesh grid climbing ladder secured to the inside bottom and side of the canister for easy egress by the ducklings upon hatching. This wood duck house is not to be mounted on a tree. An additional improvement over the prior art is that this invention is mounted on a round plastic hollow pole and planted directly in the water of a wetlands area thereby allowing the ducklings to exit the canister and jump safely to the water below.

  • Patent number: 6874271
Abstract: A float device which provides an on-demand change in tacking or planing direction without having to retrieve the float or adjust the float configuration. The float utilizes a float body and at least two longitudinal keel members oppositely disposed on the float body. In a first orientation, the first keel is submerged and the second keel is in the air and the float tacks in the first keel direction. A sharp pull on a tether line connected to the float causes the float body to roll 180 degrees such that second keel is submerged and the first keel is in the air and the float tacks in the second keel direction.
