  • Patent number: 4168422
Abstract: An automatic electric cigar lighter, particularly a cigar lighter igniting unit for automobiles and the like. The cigar lighter comprises a holder device presenting an outwardly facing socket, and a unique ignitor plug receivable in the socket. Disposed at the inner end of the plug is a heating element which is electrically connected in circuit with a heat-responsive switch that is also carried by the plug. The socket in addition to its grounding circuit has a "hot" contact which is engageable with a cooperable contact on the plug to effect the circuit through the heating element. The plug comprises a manually operable part by which the heat-responsive switch can be closed, thereby to complete the heating circuit through the element. A bimetallic member is also carried by the plug, engageable with one of the switch parts and normally lying in a circuit-opening position wherein it maintains the switch parts separated and from which it can be shifted to a closed-circuit position.

  • Patent number: 4160893
Abstract: An individual chip joining machine is designed primarily to bond a single chip to a multi-chip substrate. The machine includes an X-Y table for moving a substrate to locate a chip site beneath a probe. The probe serves to pick up a chip and either place it on the substrate or remove it therefrom and further serves to heat the chip to join it to the substrate by solder reflow or to melt the solder and allow the chip to be removed. The probe is mounted on a Z direction placement mechanism that also includes means to allow the probe to be backed off a fixed distance from a chip, once the chip has been placed on the substrate preparatory to joining thereto. A second heater heats the substrate to a bias temperature, this heating being controlled through use of a surrogate substrate having a thermocouple attached thereto.

  • Patent number: 4152578
Abstract: The novel electric heating element is particularly useful as a water heating element, although its use is not so limited. The element comprises the usual metal-sheathed heater having electrical termination at one end of the sheath. The customary water heating element has a sheath of hair-pin formation, with the ends of the two legs of the sheath connected to structure which serves as a mounting member and an electrical connector. Such structure in the present application is of molded plastic with a metal insert.

  • Patent number: 4135079
Abstract: A housing containing a buzzer and mercury switch is mounted on the shaft of the drain lever for a heated tank, for example in a dishwasher. If the heating unit is still turned on when the drain valve is opened, the buzzer sounds to warn the operator that operation of the heating unit without water in the tank will damage the machine.
