Abstract: A low-irritation detergent composition comprising (A) an alkyl saccharide-type surface active agent and (B) a cationic polymer. The composition is a low irritant to the skin and hair, produces excellent creamy foam, possesses a superior hair conditioning effect, and imparts an outstanding moisture feeling to the skin.

Abstract: A fiber conditioning composition, especially useful for conditioning human hair on the head, includes a cationic surface active fiber conditioning agent, such as a hair conditioning quanternary ammonium halide, a normally solid and water insoluble poly-lower alkylene, such as polyethylene, and a hydrocarbon solubilizer for such poly-lower alkylene, such as mineral oil, which liquefies it and makes it water dispersible in the presence of the cationic surface active fiber conditioning agent and water, which composition is of a significantly increased fiber conditioning effect compared to control compositions containing the cationic surface active fiber conditioning agent alone. In a preferred form the fiber conditioning composition includes water and anionic synthetic organic detergent, and is a shampoo for human hair.

Abstract: A hair cosmetic composition comprising the following components (A) and (B):(A) 1.0 to 50.0% by weight, based on the total weight of the composition, of a dialkylene glycol monoalkyl ether represented by formula (I): ##STR1## wherein R.sup.1 represents a hydrogen atom or a methyl group and R.sup.2 represents an alkyl group having 1 to 5 carbon atoms; and(B) 0.01 to 20.0% by weight, based on the total weight the composition, of at least one cationic surfactant is disclosed.This hair cosmetic composition imparts an excellent texture to the hair and protects the hair from splitting or broken, without showing any stickiness or an oily feel.

Abstract: By combining an aqueous chlorite solution with an organic or inorganic buffer salt and a divalent metal ion, a stable aqueous chlorite solution is attained for use in substantially improving the durability and resulting visual appearance of permanently waved hair. In addition, the present invention is equally effective as a post treatment for freshly permanently waved hair or as the oxidizer in the permanent waving process. Furthermore, this aqueous chlorite solution can be intermixed with conventional oxidizers to attain the desirable beneficial results.

Abstract: A cosmetic powder bar composition is disclosed. The composition, substantially oil free, comprises calcium sulfate dihydrate, mica or mica-containing composite material and polyethylene. A unique process for making this composition is also set forth. In this process a powder phase composition and a liquid phase composition are separately prepared. The two compositions are contacted to form a slurry. The slurry is placed in molds and heated to remove free water therefrom.

Abstract: Hair care compositions containing a hydrophobic cationic emulsion of a highly branched and crosslinked silicone polymer. The silicone polymer is a polydimethylsiloxane and the silicone emulsions can be formulated into conditioners, styling gels, pump sprays and permanent hair waving products. The compositions are effective in enhancing wet and dry combing and feel of hair.

Abstract: A process for the permanent waving of hair in which hair wound on a mandrel is exposed to the action of a reactive waving solution containing at least one reducing agent capable of cystine cleavage to achieve cystine cleavage and the step of applying an oxidizing agent to the hair to reform the cystine bonds, is improved by contacting the hair for from about 5 to 15 minutes with the reactive waving solution to achieve a substantially-maximum cystine bond cleavage; blotting the hair to remove the reactive waving solution; and contacting the hair with a protein flow solution for a period of time sufficient to induce protein flow in the hair to achieve a desired curl configuration prior to application of the oxidizing agent to reestablish the cystine bonds to fix the curl. The protein flow solution is an aqueous protein flow solution having a pH of from about 2 to about 10.

Abstract: A quick drying nail coating composition which contains conventional nail coating ingredients, for example, a film former, a resin, a plasticizer and a solvent and a compound which accelerates the drying time of the composition. The accelerator compound is a hydrocarbon which is chlorinated, fluorinated, fluorinated and chlorinated or mixtures thereof. The composition exhibits accelerated drying times when compared to nail coatings not containing the accelerator compound.

Abstract: The use of siloxanes for conditioning of hair is disclosed. They hold particular usefulness as substitutes for oxidizing agents in the hair waving process. A novel polymeric composition which comprises a silanol endblocked polydiorganosiloxane, cyclic siloxanes, a chlorobenzyl-functional siloxane and a catalyst is also disclosed.

Abstract: A process of recofiguring keratin fibre is disclosed. The process includes rolling, winding, curling, looping lapping, folding, twirling, bending, curving, twisting, coiling, twining, entwining or straightening the keratin fibre or leaving the keratin fibre unchanged. A reducing agent is then applied to the keratin fibre to reduce cystine disulfide linkages and other susceptible linkages in the keratin fibre. An oxidizing agent is applied to the keratin fibre having the reducing agent, to set cystine disulfide linkages in the keratin fibre. The reducing agent and the oxidizing agent are then removed from the keratin fibre by rinsing the keratin fibre.
