Abstract: A method of allocating resources includes scheduling jobs from among a plurality of resources of a work-producing system. The work producing system is a pharmacy. The method includes the steps of sorting, in a predetermined order, available resources to be utilized in the pharmacy by a last task assignment, a number of tasks performable, rate per task, and/or cost per hour, and determining one or more queues responsive to the sorting. The method also includes the step of normalizing the queue by dividing a current task queue by an average rate of the available resources for each task in the current task queue. The method also includes the step of assigning the available resources to one or more tasks with a predetermined normalized queue, subject to at least one task constraint.

Abstract: A computer-based method and system accomplish automatic optimization of a preferred merchandising figure of merit like revenue, profit, etc. by concurrent optimization of prices and in-store promotion schedules for groups of interrelated products in a supermarket or in a chain of supermarkets. The basis of the system is a statistical model that combines effects of prices, promotion schedules and other factors that could influence demands, and produces a flexible nonparametric predictive demand function that can be optimized simultaneously in prices and promotion schedules. The system generates demand predictions for groups of interrelated products by applying data mining procedures to historical database that contains sales data along with various sales conditions, adjusting statistical predictive demand models, and then optimizing them in prices and promotion schedules.

Abstract: A system for generating a schedule by generating assignments for the tasks of a project and sequentially scheduling the individual assignments to available resources. First, input information is received which includes a resource calendar and a task list. A resource calendar identifies the resources available to work on a project and any constraints that are associated with the resources. A task list identifies the tasks that must be performed and any constraints that are associated with the tasks. At a minimum, the constraints associated with the tasks must identify each of the resources assigned to the task, and the work-amount that each resource must perform. Next, assignments are generated for each of the tasks. Each of the assignments identifies a specific resource and the work-amount required by the specific resource. Finally, each of the assignments are scheduled in accordance with the provided resource constraints identified in the resource calendar.

Abstract: Disclosed is a method for maintaining compact descriptions of the behavior of customers in a database of information relating to customer transactions. Of all possible variables that might be used to characterize customer transactions, a limited number are selected on the basis of discriminating power to define customer profiles. Customers are classified according to distinguishing features of their profiles. A new customer can be initially assigned to a particular class based on data characterizing his first few transactions.

Abstract: A system and method for collecting and analyzing electronic discussion messages to categorize the message communications and the identify trends and patterns in pre-determined markets. Electronic messages are collected and analyzed according to characteristics and data inherent in the messages. Objective data is collected by the system for use in analyzing the electronic discussion data against real-world events to facilitate trend analysis and event forecasting based on the volume, nature and content of messages posted to electronic discussion forums. The message posting activity of a plurality of posters can be tracked to identify opinion leaders, and patterns in the messages can be identified using at least one of the following techniques: chaos theory; complexity theory; social network theory; and neural network theory.

Each manufacturing line may include at least one operation, and deliveries are made according to the material requirements for the operation. Parts and/or raw materials are requested and delivered to an operation of at least one operation on a manufacturing line in the factory from in-house and external inventory based upon the work scheduled for that operation. Deliveries are scheduled continuously to allow changes in truck arrival schedules from material sources and changes in material requirements. Abstract: A computer program and method is provided that enables professional advisors, as well as individuals, to improve their understanding of the risks associated with long-term health care in effort to make informed decisions regarding long-term care insurance. The computer program and method projects an economic impact of long-term care costs on personal assets of an estate based upon a hypothetical fact scenario. In one aspect of the invention, tax consequences and other costs associated with the liquidation and sale of personal assets to pay long-term care costs are included in the determination of the economic impact. In another aspect of the invention, the computer program and method simultaneously determines both an insured hypothetical economic impact and an uninsured hypothetical economic impact on personal assets for any given hypothetical fact scenario. In yet another aspect of the invention, the economic impact is determined as a function of time.

Abstract: A new system of analyzing advertising revenue derivation is provided that is particularly useful for predicting an amount of revenue that can be expected from advertisements placed in a business directory book having a certain geographic coverage. The system comprises estimating a preference factor of advertisers located in a first geographic area of placing advertisements in other geographic areas. This preference factor, along with other demographic data, is used to calculate a choice probability that advertisers will choose to place an advertisement in one business directory book over other competing books. A total amount of expected revenue for each particular geographic area within a metropolitan area is calculated. Finally, the total amount of expected revenue attributable to a particular business directory book is predicted based on the choice probability and the total amount of expected revenue for each geographic area.

Abstract: The method and system of the present invention use a plurality of timing data to determine a transportation schedule or schedule(s). The transpiration schedule or schedules include a series of precise timing windows for pickup and delivery of products moving from suppliers to plants. In addition, the products may move thorough cross docks and other suppliers. Further, the suppliers in the system may belong to different tiers in the supply chain. The schedule(s) are then transmitted to all of the effected parties. If the schedule(s) are not accepted and/or certain scheduling variables change, the schedule(s) may be recalculated and retransmitted.

Abstract: In scheduling and controlling the upgrading of major assets such as a capital ship, the need for upgrades to various elements found on ships are determined, and the upgrade of each piece of equipment is documented as a change product. The change product documentary information is entered into a database, and correlated with information identifying those major assets, which use such products, thereby associating one or more major assets with a change product order. The major assets are scheduled for upgrade on some basis. A promised delivery date of alteration kits, manuals, or other material is obtained from the various vendors. The database may be interrogated at any time in relation to a major asset upgrade, to thereby determine the promised delivery date of the most distant delivery date of yet-undelivered material. The most distant delivery date is deemed to be the integrated logistic support date.

Abstract: Computer-based rating of the sustainability of legal entities. Data is stored concerning at least non-economic factors of legal entities, and is used to compute sustainability scores for each entity's performance. Financial and economic criteria may also be stored and computed. Sustainability scores may be used to rate companies, governments, products and executives on a scale, with respect to each other, or within groups such as whole industries. In one embodiment, a subscriber is permitted to customize how scores are computed, to reflect subscriber preferences.
