  • Patent number: 6171543
Abstract: An improved rocker panel construction includes a substantially convex show surface, a substantially concave hidden surface opposite the show surface, and a clip house mounting structure disposed on the hidden surface. The clip house structure includes a substantially planar clip surface, and substantially planar top and bottom legs attaching the clip surface to the hidden surface. The improvement consists of providing at least one hollow channel surrounded by a reinforcing rib connecting at least one of the legs to the hidden surface. The channel and reinforcing rib may run substantially longitudinally the length of the rocker panel. The channel and reinforcing rib provide a substantial increase in the strength of the attachment of the clip house mounting structure to the hidden surface while preventing the formation of sink marks in the show surface opposite the channel.

  • Patent number: 6146571
Abstract: A method of manufacturing a golf club head that includes a peripheral shell constituted by an assembly of walls obtained by injecting a plastic material forming an inner cavity enclosing at least one inner insert kept immobilized by a partial plastic material coating of the shell. Prior to the injection step of the shell, an assembly is placed and immobilized in the mold which is comprised of a meltable core made of a second material having a melting point that is lower than the melting point of the plastic material in the space left free between the walls of the mold and the assembly, so as to coat the meltable core and all or a part of the free portion of the insert. Finally, all or a portion of the meltable core is eliminated to enable an inner volume to be freed so as to form the inner cavity.

  • Patent number: 6130263
Abstract: The present invention includes processes and resulting structures for producing moisture absorbing desiccant entrained polymers. A polymer is caused to assume a molten state, typically by applying heat and melting the polymer. To achieve certain results in the hardened end product, such as rigidity and durability, the polymer normally acts as a moisture barrier in a solidified state, both before and after melting. A desiccating agent is blended into the polymer so that the desiccating agent is distributed within the polymer. A channeling agent is also blended into the polymer so that it is distributed within the polymer. The blending of the components is preferably done before the polymer is caused to assume a molten state. Together, the polymer, desiccating agent and channeling agent create a blended mixture. The mixture is solidified so that the channeling agent forms passages in the mixture through which moisture is communicable to desiccating agent that is entrained within the mixture.

  • Patent number: 6126880
Abstract: A plunger tool for producing a special prophylactic is disclosed. The special features of the plunger tool reside in the special curvatures in its shaped section. The shaped section of the plunger tool exhibits an extreme narrowing, at the deepest point of which there may be at least one annular groove. Unlike prior art transitions, the transition from the large diameter to the reservoir section is not steep and straight but takes the form of an S-shaped curve. An exact contour of the annular grooves on the surface of the plunger tool is essential for their production and can be done only by the use of a precision diamond abrasive point.

  • Patent number: 6083442
Abstract: An impression of a portion of a human body is made by forming a preform of tandard profile of polymeric material with shape memory that is substantially rigid at ambient temperature and flexible and elastic at a higher working temperature, bringing the preform to that working temperature, and placing the preform on that body portion. After cooling of the preform to below the working temperature, the preform is removed from the body portion and a positive model is cast from the preform. The preform is then returned to the working temperature without physical constraint, whereupon the preform resumes its standard profile and so can be re-used a number of times. The polymeric composition comprises at least one elastomer and one polycaprolactone diluted in a composition of solvents that dissolve the polymers. The elastomer is polyurethane. The composition of solvents comprises dimethyl-formamide to dissolve the polyurethane, toluene to dissolve the polycaprolactone, and methylethylketone as a buffer.

  • Patent number: 6071619
Abstract: In the method according to the invention, as shown in the drawings, the elastomeric skin is manufactured in a mold assembly having a mold surface (2), a portion (3) of which is shielded off by means of a mask (4), a first elastomeric material (7) is sprayed on this mold surface (2), the mask (4) is removed, and a second elastomeric material (9) is sprayed on said portion (3) of the mold surface (2). The edges (11) of the mask (4) are placed on top of upstanding edges (13) of the mold surface (2) so that the transition between both elastomeric materials (7, 9) is achieved on these upstanding edges (13), i.e. in an outer recess of the elastomeric skin resulting in an aesthetic visual parting line. According to a further important aspect, the edges (11) of the mask (4) are maintained at a distance from the mold surface (2) such as to avoid contact between the layer of first elastomeric material (7) sprayed onto the mold surface (2) and the mask (4).

  • Patent number: 6068801
Abstract: This invention relates to a manufacturing process for making elastic bumps in the micro-electronic field. It solves the problem to mould micrometer sized elastic features by means of a micro-machined mould. The method is a reproducible moulding technology to achieve elastic bumps being a perfect replication of the mould. The mould is made of one or several grooves etched in a silicon wafer. The method includes the steps of: cleaning the surface of the mould (100) from dust and other particles; depositing a release agent on the mould and the release agent, e.g. Parylene or silane, forming a conformal self-assembled layer (118) on the surface of the mould; putting on a curable elastomer, to form an elastomeric structure (208) on the mould; curing the mould and the structure; and separating the structure from the mould.

  • Patent number: 6068807
Abstract: A process for producing a bumper for a vehicle uses a first step of injecting an outer layer forming material into a bumper forming cavity through a gate in a mold, and a second step of injecting a core forming material, thereby allowing the core forming material to flow into the outer layer forming material existing in said gate and said cavity, while allowing the outer layer and core forming materials to flow within the cavity. In the mold, the volume of a mounting portion forming area of the bumper forming cavity is set so that the thickness t.sub.1 of at least a mounting portion of the bumper for mounting to a vehicle body to extend laterally from a central portion of the vehicle body can be larger than the thickness t.sub.2 of a bumper main portion excluding the mounting portion, and the gate opens into the mounting portion forming area.

  • Patent number: 6060004
Abstract: An outer layer forming material is injected into a cavity in a mold and then, a core forming material is injected, whereby the core forming material is allowed to flow into the outer layer forming material existing in the cavity, and both the materials are allowed to flow within the cavity. The cavity has a main area for forming a bumper main portion, and side areas for forming bumper sides. A relation, d.sub.1 >d.sub.2 is established between a distance d.sub.1 determining a bumper thickness of a first section for forming an upper portion of the bumper main portion and a distance d.sub.2 determining a bumper thickness of a second section for forming a lower portion of the bumper main portion. A relation, d.sub.3 >d.sub.1 is established between a distance d.sub.3 determining a bumper thickness of the side areas and the distance d.sub.1. A film gate opens into the first section.
