Abstract: An opposed-piston engine optionally contains an ignition system that is at least partially contained within the combustion chamber to enhance the combustion efficiency of a fuel-air mixture within the combustion system. More specifically, the ignition system contains at least one spark plug having an elongated center electrical delivery electrode, and, an elongated ground electrode. Accordingly, the elongated electrodes extend from an area adjacent to the inner periphery of the cylinder to a radially central area within the combustion chamber. Yet further, a cooling jacket is incorporated to provide cooling of the spark plug.

Abstract: The present disclosure relates to piston engine systems which are no longer restricted by their compression ratios. Rather, a mixture of fuel and pre-compressed air is used to complete the combustion. The pressure of the compressed air is independently controlled. As a result, the clearance volume can be reduced to less than 1/50 or to zero, and the piston engine systems can be used with different types of fuels, for example, gasoline, diesel, ethanol, or vegetable oils.

Abstract: Methods and systems are provided for controlling a temperature of an oil used for lubricating an engine of a vehicle. In one example, a method comprises controlling an oil pump to pump oil at a first pressure, a second pressure or a third pressure in order to bias an oil cooler bypass valve to a first position, a second position or a third position, respectively, as a function of engine operating conditions. In this way, oil may be selectively routed through or around the oil cooler depending on engine operating conditions, which may serve to control oil temperature in line with the operating conditions and additionally improve fuel economy by reducing a load on the oil pump when operating conditions are such that the oil pump can be bypassed.

The feed pump unit is further connected for pumping aqueous solution along a flow path from the first compartment through the feed pump unit, through the pressure inlet of the jet pump to the outlet of the jet pump. A heater heats the flow path. The suction inlet is connected to a suction line that receives the aqueous solution from the second compartment. The outlet of the jet pump returns aqueous solution from the suction inlet and from the pressure inlet to the first compartment.

Abstract: A blow-by gas return device includes: a gas path which is configured to introduce a blow-by gas generated in a crankcase into an intake system through an inside of a head cover, a pressure control valve and a blow-by pipe; and an orifice provided to the gas path, the orifice mounted on a wall portion of an intake manifold on a cylinder head side. A passage for a blow-by gas is formed in the wall portion on the cylinder head side, and the orifice is formed on a joint pipe mounted on the passage for the blow-by gas for communicably connecting the blow-by pipe with the passage for the blow-by gas.
