    Abstract: A method and system for providing a portal image of an object utilizing a radiotheraphy system is disclosed. The radiotherapy system includes a system for providing at least one opening over the object. The at least one opening allows radiation therethrough. The method and system comprises acquiring a plurality of images through the at least one opening while moving the at least one opening over the object. Each of the plurality of images includes regions within the opening and regions outside the opening. The method and system includes obtaining a resulting portal image from the plurality of images. Radiation scattered to regions outside the opening is minimized in the resulting portal image to improve image quality. A method and system in accordance with the present invention utilizes a virtual grid to provide a resulting portal image with more contrast. The virtual grid is provided through an opening or a slit. The slit is preferably provided by a plate/jaw system in the radiotherapy system.

    Abstract: A reusable bite block/film packet holder is taught which includes comfort enhancing features for holding intraoral radiographic film packets therein and for proper positioning in a patient's mouth. The bite block/film packet holder includes a bite-block and a support bracket extending at an angle of about 90° from the bite-block. There is a slot in the bite-block immediately adjacent the support bracket for engaging an edge of an intraoral film packet inserted therein. A perimetric border at the peripheral edge of the support bracket has a generally rounded cross-sectional configuration and extends beyond the dimensions of the intraoral film packet inserted in the slot. Thus, the sharp, die-cut edges of the film packet are prevented from uncomfortably engaging the soft/sensitive tissues of a patient's mouth. Rather the rounded, soft-feeling perimetric border of the bite block/film packet holder is the contacting element.

    Abstract: An x-ray system is provided that produces noise at or below ambient levels. The system includes a positioning arm, an x-ray tube, an x-ray detector, and an acoustic dampening interface mounting between the x-ray tube and a first end of the positioning arm. The acoustic dampening interface may be a rubber isolator that absorbs the vibrations produced by the x-ray tube. The rubber isolator may include a rubber isolation tube positioned within a hole formed in a mounting plate of the x-ray tube. Alternatively, the rubber isolator may include a rubber washer and a rubber isolation layer, or isolation ring.
