  • Patent number: 4051474
Abstract: Interference from polarized signals is minimized by controlling the polarization of antennas having orthogonal dipole radiating elements. The antenna system utilizes microwave hybrids and phase shifters in a coaxial cable feed circuit that divides the power between horizontal and vertical dipole radiating elements. The circuit provides a variable antenna polarization that can be controlled to discriminate against interfering signals having any given polarization characteristics. Coaxial double folded baluns connect feed circuits to the dipole radiating elements and provide proper phasing and impedance transformation for efficient dipole operation.

  • Patent number: 4049077
Abstract: This invention is a control system for a hydraulic vibrator that permits the injection into the ground of seismic signals having pseudo-random code patterns or other broad band signals. Feedback for controlling vibrator operation is taken from the coupling plate. At low frequencies, the feedback is proportional to coupling plate position and at higher frequencies, the feedback is proportional to the coupling plate velocity.

  • Patent number: 4048544
Abstract: First and second controllable switching stages are respectively coupled between a source of horizontal retrace pulses and a capacitor connected across a vertical deflection winding. A modulator is coupled to the switching stages for controlling the timing of conduction thereof relative to the timing of the horizontal retrace pulses. One switching stage charges the capacitor in one polarity with pulses of current of gradually decreasing amplitude and duration during a first portion of the vertical trace interval and the other switching stage charges the capacitor in the opposite polarity with pulses of current of gradually increasing amplitude and duration during a second portion of the vertical trace interval. The capacitor supplies scanning current of first and second polarities to the vertical deflection winding during respective first and second portions of each vertical trace interval.

  • Patent number: 4047176
Abstract: A method for the comparative vector measurement of keyed radio signal pulses, in particular Tacan pulses, arriving nearly simultaneously at several receiving stations and which can exhibit great level differences, in which, at each receiver, the pulses are initially fed to an amplifier or attenuator having amplification or attenuation, respectively, which can be adjusted in distinct steps, which reduction or increase takes place automatically with the rise of the leading edge of the respective signal pulse. After passing through the respective amplifier or attenuator of the receivers, the instantaneous amplitudes of the measuring signals are measured at a fixed measuring time common to all receivers. In each receiver a second measuring signal is produced which is in phase quadrature with respect to the aforementioned measuring signal, the instantaneous amplitude of the second measuring signal being measured at the same time as the first measuring signal.

  • Patent number: 4047078
Abstract: A television receiver includes a conventional tri-color cathode ray tube display system having horizontal and vertical scansion systems. Conventional signal receiving and processing circuitry recovers picture, sound and scansion synchronizing information. A high voltage detector includes a high pass filter, couples to the horizontal scansion amplifier, differentiating the horizontal retrace pulse to detect both amplitude and duration changes therein. A diode rectifies the derivative signal which is then filtered to produce a high voltage error signal. A PNP, NPN transistor pair configured to form a switch analogous to a silicon controlled rectifier responds to a detected excess of high voltage and loads down the operating supply to the horizontal scansion oscillator to terminate high voltage generation. The transistor pair accommodates a degenerating network to better reject false triggering.

  • Patent number: 4045713
Abstract: An input signal is converted into a dc voltage proportional to the frequency of the input signal in a frequency-voltage converter, while saw tooth waves are generated in a saw tooth wave generator triggered with the input signal. The dc voltage is applied to a variable resistance circuit where the resistance is changed corresponding to the dc voltage. The period of such saw tooth waves is controlled with the variable resistance circuit so that the saw tooth waves may follow the input signal frequency for automatically indicating at all times a desired number of waveforms on the screen of a cathode-ray tube. The variable resistance circuit may be controlled with means for free running operation of the saw tooth wave generator during the absence of the input signal.

  • Patent number: 4042931
Abstract: A tracking system for use with an antenna having a multiple beam radiation pattern for sensing the direction of radiant energy incident upon the antenna. Pairs of the beams are selectively coupled to a monopulse comparator comprising a pair of hybrid couplers interconnected by a fixed phase shifter providing 90.degree. phase shift and by a pair of variable phase shifters providing phase shifts of equal magnitude but opposite sign. The output of the second hybrid coupler provides monopulse sum and difference signals. A sensing circuit responsive to the sum and difference signals operates the variable phase shifters to steer a null between the selected pair of beams.

  • Patent number: 4042929
Abstract: In a system for use in helicopter navigation antennas are carried at the e ends of each of the blades of the rotor of the helicopter. Radio waves transmitted by a beacon at a known location on the ground are received by the antennas and phase modulated by their rotation. On the rotor the signals are amplified and mixed with oscillations from local oscillators and are detected with the aid of reference signals from the local oscillators. By means of slip rings and contact brushes the signals are introduced into the body of the helicopter where they are first multiplied with each other and then filtered so as to produce phase-modulated signals with a carrier suppressed which are supplied to an electroluminescent diode illuminating a rotating-disc light modulator with a light-transmitting function which is analogous to the phase modulation of the signals received by the antennas. The light beam passing through the disc is integrated in a vidicon and displayed on a screen.

  • Patent number: 4041355
Abstract: A high voltage generating circuit for a television receiver which includes a horizontal oscillator and a switching circuit operating at the horizontal sweep frequency of the television receiver and being coupled to a flyback transformer which has an input resonant frequency in the vicinity of but higher than the horizontal oscillator frequency. The output of the flyback transformer is coupled to a rectifier circuit which in turn is coupled to the high voltage anode of the television receiver. The flyback transformer also has an input resonant circuit which includes a capacitor which is serially connected to the primary winding of the flyback transformer. This series resonant circuit is resonant at a frequency in the vicinity but less than the frequency of the horizontal oscillator with the result that improved voltage regulation is obtained while avoiding excess high voltage which otherwise would be caused by a shift in the output frequency of the horizontal oscillator.
