  • Patent number: 9357452
Abstract: A telecommunications node (e.g., base station subsystem) and method are described herein that broadcasts a set of system information messages (e.g., SI2quater messages or pairs of SI2ter messages and SI2quater messages) for use by a legacy mobile station which enhances the overall probability (over time) that the legacy mobile station (non-supporting mobile station) in a network sharing scenario will find frequency, cell information or a combination of both within the broadcasted system information messages to be used for the legacy mobile station's cell reselection process to provide continuity with the legacy mobile station's registered PLMN (i.e. the Common PLMN of a shared radio access network). In addition, the telecommunications node (e.g., base station subsystem) and method can also broadcast a different type of system information message for used by a supporting mobile station.

  • Patent number: 9288728
Abstract: Embodiments are described that may help to provide wireless service in a circuit-switched fall back scenario. In particular, when a user entity (UE) falls back from a first network to a second network to conduct a voice call, the first network may instruct the UE to scan a certain predetermined channel or channels for coverage from the second network. However, certain types of base stations typically operate on unlisted channels that differ from the predetermined channels that the UE is instructed to scan. Accordingly, a UE may pre-emptively scan unlisted channels, and report any unlisted channel that is detected to the first network. The first network can then coordinate with the second network to re-provision the base station that was operating on an unlisted channel, to instead operate on one of the predetermined channels that a UE will be instructed to scan during fall back to the second network.

  • Patent number: 9288651
Abstract: A system for dynamically coupling a special number call from a calling unit with at least one function-focused answerer includes: (a) at least one of an unlicensed mobile access network, a radio access network, and a public switched telephone network configured and situated for communicative coupling with the calling unit; (b) at least one network switch coupled with at least one of the networks; and (c) a special number call receiver coupled with the network switch. At least one of the special number call receiver and the network switch is configured for communicative coupling of the special number call with the at least one function-focused answerer unit. After receiving the special number call, the special number call receiver dynamically couples the special number call to an included function-focused answerer. Determining which function-focused answerer is an included function-focused answerer is made at the special number call receiver.

  • Patent number: 9282579
Abstract: A user equipment establishes an elevated priority data connection and one or more non-elevated priority data connections. The elevated priority data connection may be an emergency public data network (PDN) connection. The user equipment may determine that one or more deactivation criteria for the emergency PDN connection is satisfied while the emergency PDN connection and at least one non-emergency PDN connection of the user equipment are active. Deactivation criteria may include expiration of a Periodic Tracking Area Update timer. In response, the user equipment may locally deactivate the emergency PDN connection and send a deactivation indication to the operator network.

  • Patent number: 9258691
Abstract: A repeat payment computer system includes a merchant server and mobile billing operator server that are programmed for user acquisition through carrier billing and subsequent conversion to credit card billing. An advantage of the process is that the user does not have to enter credit card information for the default billing cycles to occur. The user only enters a phone number and password. Fewer barriers are provided for the user to become a regular repeat customer of the merchant server. The fees associated with mobile billing according to the default billing cycles have to be paid by the merchant server and may be too high in the long run. The merchant server can avoid the high fees associated with carrier billing by switching the user to billing according to the credit card information provided. The user is typically switched after the user has already become a regular customer.

  • Patent number: 9247042
Abstract: A business environment on a mobile device can be controlled by an enterprise server by receiving identifying information transmitted from a mobile device, wherein the identifying information identifies a user of the mobile device to the enterprise server. A virtual phone template is transmitted to the mobile device, wherein the virtual phone template (i) corresponds to the identifying information, and (ii) is configured to provide the business environment on the mobile device as a virtual machine running on a hypervisor installed on top of a host operating system of the mobile device. The enterprise server then receives a periodic transmission from the mobile device to indicate that the mobile device remains in periodic communication with the enterprise server.

  • Patent number: 9226123
Abstract: A communication node processes a call supported over a voice coded channel in a wireless communication network. The node tentatively designates the call as a voice call as soon as the call is initiated. While the call is designated as a voice call, the node limits processing of the call as a text telephony call to passively monitoring for one or more partial or complete text characters in the call. Responsive to detecting one or more partial or complete text characters in the call via this passive monitoring, the node designates the call as a text telephony call. While the call is designated as a text telephony call, the node fully processes the call as a text telephony call by passively detecting one or more complete text characters in the call, and conditioning and de-conditioning signals of the call for reliable transmission and reception over the voice coded channel.

  • Patent number: 9204206
Abstract: Embodiments of the present invention disclose a method and an apparatus for transmitting a signaling and relate to the field of wireless communication technologies. The method includes: detecting whether a feedback command is received from a base station, the feedback command being used to trigger the fixed wireless terminal to send a dual tone multi frequency signaling to the base station, where the dual tone multi frequency signaling is generated by the fixed wireless terminal according to a voice signal sent by an alarm host; determining the number of current unsent dual tone multi frequency signalings if the feedback command is received from the base station; combining all unsent dual tone multi frequency signalings into one dual tone multi frequency signaling if at least two dual tone multi frequency signalings exist; and sending the dual tone multi frequency signaling obtained by performing the combining to the base station.

  • Patent number: 9179276
Abstract: An internet-based conferencing system simulates the experience of Citizens' Band (CB) radio communications without the use of CB radio transceivers. Instead of direct RF links between participants, the CBI system employs a combination of user-resident application software, central server-based conferencing software, GPS location data, and Voice over IP (VoIP) or voice over cellular technology. In the set-up procedure of the application software, the participant selects an alias CB-style “handle” and a caricature picture, neither of which disclose the true identity or location of the participant. Since the participants are known only by their alias and caricature, their anonymity is preserved, thereby enabling greater freedom of expression and interpersonal tolerance. Participants do not select the other participants in their conference, but are assigned to a virtual “channel” based on a selected conference category and proximity criteria, thereby simulating the serendipity of CB radio communications.

  • Patent number: 9125046
Abstract: Connection activity between a device and service provider's network is monitored. Connection parameters calculated based on the connection activity are stored. An activity map is generated to capture and display the connection parameters which indicate activity or repeated patterns of activity over time. The activity utilizes a time grid to display a plurality of parameter regarding device status and activity. The x-axis of the time grid divides a time period into portions of time at a first time length. The y-axis of the time grid divides the portions of time at the first time length into smaller lengths of time at a second time length. Multiple layers of indicators are used in the time grid to indicate the status of several parameters during the same time period.

  • Patent number: 8965390
Abstract: Techniques to perform simultaneous communications over licensed and unlicensed spectrum are disclosed. A bandwidth monitor measures the amount of bandwidth available from a first communications connection over licensed spectrum, and the amount of bandwidth available from a second communications connection over unlicensed spectrum. Upon receiving a bandwidth request, an optimizer generates a recommendation on how to allocate bandwidth from the first and second communications connections. A load balancer then executes the allocation over the first and second communications requests based at least on the generated recommendation. Various optimization embodiments are further disclosed. Variations on bandwidth monitoring, including polling and notifications are also disclosed.
