  • Patent number: 5992261
Abstract: In a shift lever to which operating force for changing a transmission by a driver is applied, a basal end thereof is inserted in a hole formed in a lever holder. Movement of the shift lever in the axial direction is prevented by an elastic member. When large force acts in the axial direction of the shift lever, the elastic member deflects and the shift lever moves in the axial direction, thereby allowing absorption of the load applied to the shift lever.

  • Patent number: 5992259
Abstract: A new type of worm/wormgear transmission with number of wormgear teeth 11 and less described. The worm gear is a split-worm gear. The ratio of worm gear teeth to worm thread less than 11. A unique transmission utilizes a self-locking worm and worm gear combination. The worm (3) is journaled in a rotor (8) such that upon rotation of the worm about an axis of the worm gear (1), the rotor is also rotated. The worm is preferably driven by an auxiliary motor (3) about its own axis under certain conditions. An input to the worm gear (1) is transmitted without relative movement to the thread of the worm to cause the thread and hence the rotor to rotate about an axis of the worm gear. The auxiliary motor preferably rotates the worm thread relative to the worm gear teeth under certain conditions when it is not desired to transmit rotation. A system for transmitting an oscillating input (4) to a single directional output (9) incorporates some of the worm and worm gear combinations.

  • Patent number: 5992258
Abstract: A mechanism for converting rotational motion to linear motion having a roller thread mechanism interposed between a shaft having multiple male threads and a nut having multiple female threads. The female threads of the nut are opposite in direction to the male threads of the shaft. The rollers have different effective thread diameters which are provided by the shape of the threads on the shaft, rollers and nut. The mechanism is configured so that the axial travel distance of the shaft, per relative rotation of the nut and the shaft, can be shortened. The mechanism is also capable of a fast movement, which is realized by suppressing the rotation of the rollers. When the mechanism is used as an actuator of a brake device, an antilock control, a traction control, and the like, it can be easily implemented by controlling the rotation of the rotor.

  • Patent number: 5988884
Abstract: A guide rail arrangement for connecting two relatively displaceable components comprising a lower rail (1) and an upper rail (2) supported thereon by rolling elements (3), said lower and upper rails being configured as rectilinear sheet metal profiles, one of the lower and upper rails partially surrounding the other of the lower and upper rails, whereby hollow spaces are formed for receiving the rolling elements (3) and further slide elements (4) arranged between the rails is characterized in that, in a central region of the arrangement, the two rails (1, 2) define a receiving space (5) for a spring and/or damping element, which receiving space (5) is adjoined by regions comprising the rolling elements and the slide elements (4) and extending in end regions of the rails (1, 2) which results in the creation of an arrangement with uniform load distribution on its components so that a deformation of the components and a pressing-in of the rolling elements is reliably prevented.

  • Patent number: 5988010
Abstract: A steering column including a mast jacket adjustable vertically and horizontally and clamp. The clamp includes a housing having a pair of piston bores and a control shaft bore intersecting each of the piston bores. A control shaft is rotatable in the control shaft bore and connected to a manual operating lever. A pair of passages in the control shaft define gates in the piston bores which are fully open and partially open in an unlocked position and in a locked position, respectively, of the manual operating lever. Aggregates of media grains in the piston bores traverse the open gates without interference in response to relative linear translation between the pistons and the piston bores. The media grains bridge the partially open gates and clump in the piston bores to define solid plugs which rigidly immobilize the pistons.
