  • Patent number: 8977313
Abstract: One embodiment of the present invention provides a system for setting uplink power-control parameters for a cell within a wireless network. During operation, the system receives parameters associated with uplink power for a plurality of user devices within the cell over a predetermined time interval, and averages the received parameters over the user devices and the predetermined time interval to obtain an averaged parameter. The system then determines a set of power-control parameters for the cell based on the averaged parameter, and sends the set of power-control parameters to the user devices to allow the user devices to control transmission power using the set of power-control parameters.

  • Patent number: 8965274
Abstract: A device may receive a request from a mobile device to create a socket connection between the mobile device and the device. The request may be associated with linking information that links the socket connection with a previous socket connection with the mobile device. The request may be received from the mobile device after the mobile device disconnects from a first wireless local area network and reconnects to a second wireless local area network. The device may identify, based on the linking information, a socket connection between the device and a server device, the socket connection between the device and the server device having been created when the mobile device was connected to the first wireless local area network. • Patent number: 8958838
Abstract: Transmit power for an access point is controlled based on information received by the access point. For example, an access point may employ one or more algorithms that use messages received from nearby access terminals to maintain an acceptable tradeoff between providing an adequate coverage area for access point transmissions and mitigating interference that these transmissions cause at nearby access terminals. Here, the access point may employ a network listen-based algorithm upon initialization of the access terminal to provide preliminary transmit power control until sufficient information is collected for another transmit power control algorithm (e.g., an access terminal assisted algorithm). Also, the access terminal may employ an active access terminal protection scheme to mitigate interference the access point may otherwise cause to a nearby access terminal that is in active communication with another access point.

  • Patent number: 8954000
Abstract: Systems and methods for real-time signal validation are disclosed. In an example embodiment, a subset of terminals in a peer group of satellite terminals is determined. Operational statistics of the satellite terminals in the subset of terminals is measured. Operational statistics of each of the satellite terminals in the subset of terminals is compared to a prior measurement of the same operational statistics. An offset between a current measurement of the operational statistics and the prior measurement of the same operational statistics is determined. An average offset of the current measurement of the operational statistics and the prior measurement of the same operational statistics is determined for the subset of terminals. The average offset for the subset of terminals is merged with a previously determined peer group operational statistic. A signal validation of a terminal is performed using an updated deviation value.

  • Patent number: 8938271
Abstract: A cloud spectrum manager (CSM) for managing the sharing of spectrum among multiple operators in a distributed computing environment. The cloud spectrum manager comprises an allocation service component which applies a resource allocation policy to determine whether the requested spectrum from an operator may be allocated. The allocation of spectrum allows the operator to get spectrum from the CSM at wholesale prices and then the operator manages the rented spectrum with its associated client devices. The operator manages the rented spectrum, perform their own analytics & optimization and offer spectrum services to the clients. The demands on the CSM are alleviated since it can manage spectrum at whole sale quantities and leave the finer grain device to device management to the operator.

  • Patent number: 8934853
Abstract: Embodiments of the present disclosure use shared oscillator for cellular communications and location detection in a communication device. The communications device estimates a frequency offset of one of its subsystems. The communications device determines a frequency offset that results from drifting of this shared oscillator, typically caused by aging and/or changes in temperature, voltage, humidity, pressure, and/or vibration to provide some examples, from the frequency offset this subsystem. The communications device provides various compensation parameters to its various subsystems to compensate for the frequency offset that results from drifting of the oscillator.

  • Patent number: 8918130
Abstract: A data transmitter is provided for transmitting data that makes it possible for nodes, relaying the preamble transmitted by a transmitter node, to also transmit data to a single destination node without, in turn, transmitting another preamble. In a network comprising a plurality of nodes that alternately observe sleeping and waking periods in an asynchronous manner relative to each other, a node receives a first preamble that is transmitted by at least one transmitter node. The first preamble comprises at least one first set of information related to transmission, by the transmitter node, of a first data set to a destination node. The adjacent node transmits a second data set to the destination node or to another node from the transmission of the first data set.
