  • Patent number: 9174240
Abstract: A material sorter apparatus includes a drum mounted for rotation and a coaxial trommel mounted within the drum. Raw material is applied to the trommel. Rotational movement of the drum imparts expulsion of large material in the raw material from the trommel out of the device. The rotational movement of the drum imparts filtration of the raw material through the trommel into the drum as fine material. The drum is fluid impervious and is formed with an inwardly-directed lip. The trommel and drum are angled with respect to a horizontal. A wash is directed into the drum to wash the raw and fine material in the trommel and drum. The drum is mounted for pivotal movement to a stand.

  • Patent number: 9132452
Abstract: A mining classifier assembly includes a round main body member with a flat bottom portion, preferably adapted to be received into the top portion of a round bucket or similar container, including a series of holes in the bottom portion thereof. The main body member may be placed into the top of a bucket that contains water. A load of dirt, containing rocks, minerals, gemstones, and the like, may be loaded into the main body member so that the water at least partially covers the load, and an operator may agitate the particulate within the water, so that the particulate small enough to fall through the holes in the main body member may fall through, while the larger particulate remains within the main body member. Additionally, a series of trays having a mesh bottom may be inserted into the main body member, to catch and separate smaller particulate.

  • Patent number: 9126236
Abstract: Disclosed herein is the use of differences in x-ray linear absorption coefficients to process ore and remove elements with higher atomic number from elements with lower atomic numbers. Use of this dry method at the mine reduces pollution and transportation costs. One example of said invention is the ejection of inclusions with sulfur, silicates, mercury, arsenic and radioactive elements from coal. This reduces the amount and toxicity of coal ash. It also reduces air emissions and the energy required to clean stack gases from coal combustion. Removal of said ejected elements improves thermal efficiency and reduces the pollution and carbon footprint for electrical production.

  • Patent number: 9114403
Abstract: A gravity separation system for separating and recovering heavy metal particles from a slurry of suspended particles. The separation system includes a channeling member with an interior space, for guiding a flow of a slurry of suspended particles, and a magnetic member situated external to the channeling member. The magnetic member includes a geometrically patterned array of magnets, for generating a geometrically patterned magnetic field extending into the interior space of the channeling member. Magnetic particles such as magnetite, suspended in the slurry, are assembled by the geometrically patterned magnetic field into a correspondingly patterned array of riffles within the channeling member. The array of riffles promotes the sedimentation of heavy particles from the slurry. The geometrically patterned magnetic field is interruptible, to allow disassembly of the riffles and recovery of the settled heavy particles.

  • Patent number: 9095793
Abstract: A radial opposed migration classifier is provided for separating particles in a sample, introducing and removing the particles into and out of the classifier at the same potential. A sample passes through a classification channel having two circular walls. The sample is introduced and exits the classifier through the same plane as the first wall, which is at a different potential from the second wall. A cross-flow fluid enters the classification channel through one of the walls. The cross-flow fluid flows at a first velocity and exits in a first direction through the other wall. An imposed field is applied on the particles in a second direction counter to the first direction of the cross-flow. This causes the particles of a desired size and/or charge to migrate at a second velocity opposite and/or equal to a first velocity of the cross-flow. The particles that travel through the channel are discharged.
