  • Patent number: 4632192
Abstract: A sod cutting unit supports a vibrating sod-cutting blade on a pivot under a platform and driving and control mechanism above the platform, while drawing the platform across a field on a support which allows the platform to pivot around a horizontal axis parallel to the direction of motion across the field. A multi-unit machine supports two or more units from the same draft suspension, an intermediate unit of three being additionally movable up-and-down relative to the outer units. Each unit pivots independent of all the others.

  • Patent number: 4632189
Abstract: A self-propelled lawn aerating machine includes a plurality of generally vertically reciprocally movable tines operated by a cam shaft for removing plugs of soil from a lawn. The tines are spring biased upwardly and in forward direction toward a bumper board located forward of the tines. When withdrawn from the lawn the tines strike the bumper board with sufficient force to break the soil plugs and cause the resulting loose soil to be scattered over the surface of the lawn as the machine moves along an aerating path. The bumper board has a raised position wherein it supports the tines in an idling position above the surface of the ground while the machine is moved across walkways, driveway, and the like.

  • Patent number: 4621696
Abstract: A sod harvesting machine travels forwardly along a path of travel and has a sod cutting head pivotally connected to a fixed rear frame by a horizontal front pivot shaft having its axis aligned along the path of travel and located close to the ground, and by a pair of rear pivots. The rear pivots are formed by a pair of curved tracks and rollers at the rear of the cutting head, well above the ground, allowing the front of a conveyor to be brought near the ground and close behind the sod cutting knife. The curved tracks have a common center of curvature located on the axis of the front pivot shaft so that they have the same effect as a horizontal rear pivot shaft located close to the ground and aligned with the front pivot shaft.

  • Patent number: 4619330
Abstract: Improvements in flexibility for wide swath agricultural implements having hinged wing frame sections to enable the implement to be folded compactly for transport and also to better follow ground contours are provided by dividing at least one of the sections into side-by-side subsections which are pivotally interconnected for relative movement about a transverse axis. Thus, relative flexing between adjacent frame portions can take place about hinge axes parallel to travel direction while relative flexing between adjacent wing sections of the frame can take place about transverse axes. Preferably the pivotal interconnections are located to divide the frame into portions of equal width and the pivotal interconnections are reinforced by link means which connect the adjacent portions to resist bending movements about a vertical axis at the interconnection while still permitting the hinged sections to be folded.

  • Patent number: 4617706
Abstract: A device for manipulating cadavers is described incorporating a support apparatus and a harness apparatus. The support apparatus is comprised of two side rails assemblies, a foot rail assembly and a head rail assembly. The harness apparatus, which is secured to the support apparatus by a plurality of hooks is comprised of at least two upside down, generally U-shaped brackets which are joined at their apex by an axle. Slidably associated with the axle are means by which the apparatus can be lifted by an overhead crane. The design permits the apparatus to be easily and quickly assembled and disassembled by the mortician. It also permits the mortician to work on the cadaver without interference from the apparatus itself.

  • Patent number: 4616713
Abstract: The blade adjustment device of the present invention is used with a sod cutting machine comprising a sod cutting blade, a sod roller positioned in close spaced relation to the blade for cooperating with the blade to sever the sod from the ground, a blade supporting frame connected to the blade and movably mounted for movement toward and away from the roller. The adjustment device comprises a power actuator, and a linkage mechanism pivotally interconnecting the power actuator to the blade supporting frame for causing the blade supporting frame to move toward and away from the roller. The linkage includes an input end connected to the power means and an output end connected to the blade supporting frame for moving the blade supporting frame in response to actuation of the power actuator. The linkage mechanism reduces the distance of movement, so that the input end moves a greater distance than the output end.

  • Patent number: 4609050
Abstract: A root picker includes a main frame supporting within it a triangular picker frame pivoted on the main frame at one apex with a lower and rearwardly positioned apex supporting a picker roller which is rotated to pick stones from the ground. A conveyor chain supporting transverse bars with outwardly extending teeth is pivotally mounted adjacent the third apex of the frame upwardly and rearwardly of the picker roller so that the chain turns around an axis at a position alongside the picker roller to lift rocks between the conveyor chain and the picker roller onto a surface which leads up to a bucket. The frame pivots to lift the conveyor chain and the picker roller away from the ground and also the conveyor chain is pivotal relative to the frame to increase the spacing between the chain and the picker roller. Rotating sweep drums are positioned forwardly and outwardly of the frame to pick and sweep rocks into the picker roller.

  • Patent number: 4609049
Abstract: A wheel mounted pull type chassis includes a side hitch bar for securement to a tractor or the like. A reel assembly is journalled for rotation and is situated transversely at the front of the chassis and picks up rocks, stones, dirt, etc. and deposits same on an upwardly and rearwardly inclining slotted apron with the teeth of the pick up bars at the reel passing through the apron teeth and depositing the picked up material into a screening wheel journalled for rotation about a generally horizontal but inclined longitudinal axis so that the wheel is tipped rearwardly from the vertical. The periphery of the wheel is slotted. It is supported upon a pair of spaced apart support wheels one wheel of which is driven and which engage a track around the outer periphery of the wheel. Three equidistantly spaced rear support wheels engage the rear of the periphery of the wheel for added support.
