  • Patent number: 7343655
Abstract: A method of fabricating a micro electromechanical switch on a substrate comprising piezoelectric layers, metal electrodes alternated with the layers and contact pads. Cross voltages are applied to the electrodes, in order to obtain an S-shaped deformation of the switch and allow contact between the contact pads. Additionally, a further electrode can be provided on a substrate where the switch is fabricated, to allow an additional electrostatic effect during movement of the piezoelectric layers to obtain contact between the contact pads. The overall dimensions of the switch are very small and the required actuation voltage is very low, when compared to existing switches.

  • Patent number: RE46070
Abstract: A method for improving strength of the finished product in paint roller manufacturing processes and other continuous processes for producing tubular goods from polymers. The method utilizes a substrate such as a polypropylene strip with grooves on its surface. The grooved substrate is fed onto a mandrel to form a tube. Adhesive is applied upon the grooved surface of the grooved substrate. A cover may be applied about the tube, and the resulting product is then cut into finished-size paint rollers. The hardened adhesive in the grooves may operate to reduce the hoop-force which would otherwise tend to unwind the wound substrate. The method in certain embodiments provides a reduction in cost and weight of the finished product.

  • Patent number: RE46212
Abstract: Cathode plate edge protector systems formed by secondary and tertiary molding processes, in which fluid plastic is molded around and/or introduced into previously manufactured plastic edge protectors. A U-shaped edge protector system is formed by bevel-cutting abutting ends of edge protector strips, securing the strips in the desired configuration a molding jig, and molding corner pieces around the abutting ends. The system is then removed from the jig and slip-installed over the two sides and the bottom edge of a cathode plate. In an optional tertiary molding process, fluid plastic may be introduced into the remaining void between the edge protector system and the cathode plate. Another edge protector system is formed by mounting edge protector strips on opposing side edges of a cathode plate, damming the open ends, and introducing fluid plastic in the contained voids between the strips and the cathode plate.
