  • Patent number: 6181330
Abstract: A video display device for displaying a wide range of video signals which allows the user to freely set the screen display width and position. A request for adjusting the horizontal display width, vertical display width, horizontal display position, and vertical display position is made through a key circuit, and a microcomputer determines the state of the key circuit. The microcomputer then recalculates the horizontal expansion rate and vertical expansion rate of a scan converter, and send recalculated data to the scan converter and a PLL circuit. The scan converter and the PLL circuit converts signals to the number of picture elements displayable on the video display device in response to a request for adjustment, and changes the phase of the enable signal which indicates a display period of the video display device to adjust horizontal and vertical display positions.

  • Patent number: 6181328
Abstract: A method and system in a data-processing system having a touch-sensitive display unit wherein touch-sensitive icons displayed within the touch-sensitive display unit may be calibrated according to physical characteristics associated with a particular user. Touch-sensitive icons are displayed within a touch-sensitive display unit, such that upon activation by a user, the touch-sensitive icons initiate data-processing operations. Thereafter, a user is prompted to enter a particular sequence of data utilizing the touch-sensitive icons. Physical characteristics associated with the user are then analyzed while the user is entering the particular sequence of data utilizing the touch-sensitive icons. Finally, in response to analyzing the physical characteristics, the touch-sensitive icons are configured such that the sensitivity of the touch-sensitive display may be raised or lowered according to the physical characteristics associated with the user. The touch-sensitive icons may be composed of touch-sensitive keys.

  • Patent number: 6151001
Abstract: This invention is directed to improve visual effects on digital display devices that use time and space modulation methods to display grayscale values. A distributed line technique is utilized to provide grayscale capability. The grayscale display is illuminated by energizing pixels of a weighted grid of eight line addresses. The first grid line illuminates pixels based on the first selected bit of the grayscale value for those pixels, the second grid line pixels are illuminated based on the second selected bit of the grayscale value for those pixels, the third grid line pixels are base on the third selected bit of the grayscale value for those pixels, etc. until all pixels for all eight grid lines have been selected. Thereafter, a second set of grid lines is accessed during the second addressing period, a third set is accessed during the third addressing period, and so forth until all grid sets have been accessed. There are N grid sets where N is the number of time slots allocated per frame time.

  • Patent number: 6130656
Abstract: An actuatable film type display device has a plurality of actuatable films. Each of the actuatable films is colored in a desired color and is put in or out of a gap between two white plates of adjacent pixels according to the driving control. The actuatable film is supported by a cantilever. An electrode (actuatable electrode) is attached to the cantilever. Further, two fixed electrodes are disposed to sandwich the cantilever. The actuatable electrode is moved closer to one of the fixed electrodes by a potential applied to the electrode on the cantilever, that is, the actuatable electrode and potentials applied to the fixed electrodes. The actuatable film, white plate, cantilever, and fixed electrodes are combined to constitute one pixel. A plurality of pixels thus formed are arranged in a matrix form to constitute a dot matrix display device.

  • Patent number: 5982348
Abstract: In an active matrix display device integrated with a peripheral drive circuit using thin film transistors, when Vgr is a voltage required for one gradation, Ct is capacitance of all pixels, Cgd is capacitance between a gate and a drain, .DELTA.Vg is a difference between ON/OFF gate voltages, and .DELTA.Vs is a feedthrough voltage, the respective parameters satisfy an expression: .vertline.vgr.vertline.>.vertline.(1/Ct)[Cgd.multidot..DELTA.Vg-Ct.multido t..DELTA.Vs].vertline.. According to this, even if dispersion occurs in the characteristics of the thin film transistors arranged for a buffer circuit or an active matrix circuit, it is possible to prevent the dispersion from influencing the gradation display.
