  • Patent number: 8559442
Abstract: In one embodiment, a node determines an intention to transmit a diversely forwarded packet through a computer network, and as such, transmits a first version of the packet having a packet identifier (ID) and a first distinguisher value to a first next-hop node, and transmits a second version of the packet having the same packet ID and a second distinguisher value different from the first distinguisher value to a second next-hop node different from the first next-hop node. In another embodiment, a next-hop node that receives the packet determines whether any previously received packet at the next-hop node had a same packet ID and a different distinguisher value. In response to determining that no previously received packet has the same packet ID and different distinguisher value, the next-hop node stores the packet ID and the distinguisher value, and forwards the packet to a selected next-hop node.

  • Patent number: 8553660
Abstract: A wireless star network includes including a master node (master) and a set of N slave nodes (slaves), wherein the network uses orthogonal frequency division multiple access (OFDMA). The master partitions the set of slaves in a first subset A(i) and second subset B(j), wherein the first and second subsets are disjoint. Packets are transmitted by the first subset of slaves only while the master and second subset of slaves operate in receive mode, and packets are transmitted by the second subset of slaves only while the master and first of slaves operate in receive mode.

  • Patent number: 8509136
Abstract: A base station BS transmits downlink data to a relay station RS. A mobile station MS transmits uplink data to the relay station RS. The relay station RS determines a first modulation scheme for transmitting the uplink data to the base station BS, and determines a second modulation scheme for transmitting the downlink data to the mobile station MS. The relay station RS multiplies a symbol sequence obtained by the first modulation scheme by a symbol sequence obtained by the second modulation scheme for each symbol, and multicasts the multiplication result to the base station BS and the mobile station MS.

  • Patent number: 8477811
Abstract: In a wireless communication system, a mobile station performs “keep-alive” signaling with a serving radio access network (RAN), transmitting its identity without necessarily an accompanying data portion. The serving RAN does not necessarily acknowledge. Thereby, the mobile station maintains state synchronization with the serving RAN, which also benefits in being able to timely release a context when the “keep-alive” transmission is not continued. In one aspect, the mobile station utilizes random access procedures (RACH) for uplink data arrival with a 0-byte MAC buffer status report whose identifying Cell Radio Network Temporary Identity (C-RNTI) can be used by the serving RAN for keep alive purposes. In another aspect, the mobile station can perform non-access stratum (NAS) signaling containing identification for the mobile station that is supported by underlying access stratum (AS) signaling via the serving RAN. This identifying NAS signaling is detected or a downstream recipient alerts the serving RAN.

  • Patent number: 8442133
Abstract: An apparatus and a method for transmitting a Coexistence Beacon Protocol (CBP) packet in a Cognitive Radio (CR) wireless communication system are provided. In the method for transmitting CBP packet in a transmitter that operates in a scalable Orthogonal Frequency Division Multiple Access (OFDMA) mode, a priority is given to each channel of one or more channels based at least partly upon channel use statuses of two or more neighbor Wireless Regional Area Networks (WRANs). Whether a Quality of Service (QoS) for CBP packet transmission for each channel is met is sequentially determined according to the respective priority. A channel having a highest priority is selected from the one or more channels meeting the QoS as a channel for CBP packet transmission. A CBP packet is transmitted via the selected channel.

  • Patent number: 8437311
Abstract: A pilot-measurement control method and a dual-mode terminal are provided. After entering a tunnel state, an idle state protocol submodule does not wait for a measurement start command to trigger pilot measurement, but instead, directly triggers pilot measurement by actively searching for high rate packet data (HRPD) measurement permission variable information. Alternatively, measurement indication information sent by an initialization protocol submodule is buffered in advance, so that after entering the tunnel state, the idle state protocol submodule can trigger pilot measurement by searching for the buffered information. Alternatively, the idle state protocol submodule performs pilot measurement according to received measurement indication information sent by an air interface connection management protocol submodule when the idle state protocol submodule is activated.

  • Patent number: 8437410
Abstract: Devices, systems, methods, and other embodiments associated with clipping instructions are described. In one embodiment, a method includes receiving a clipping instruction for clipping filtered values in a video image de-blocking operation. The clipping instruction references a video data value and a clipping value. The method includes decoding the clipping instruction. The method also includes retrieving the video data value and the clipping value. A video data magnitude of the video data value is determined. The method determines a clipping magnitude of the clipping value. A determination is made as to whether the video data magnitude exceeds the clipping magnitude. If the video data magnitude exceeds the clipping magnitude, the video data value is selectively clipped.

  • Patent number: 8422486
Abstract: The present invention discloses a user device for implementing direct penetrating communication between a user device under a NAT and another user device under a different NAT and a method for the same. Detection message is sent to an auxiliary detecting device in an external network through a selected local port. Then the reply message from said auxiliary detecting device will be received and the NAT-translated NAT source port of said detection message can be obtained. By comparing the NAT source ports of a plurality of detection messages, it can be determined whether or not the selected port is a penetrated port. After that, the corresponding NAT source address and NAT penetrated port will be informed to another user device under a different NAT (also, the NAT penetrated port and NAT source port determined by said another user device will be received via said external-network device).
