  • Patent number: 8649370
Abstract: The present invention provides systems and methods for programming connections through a multi-stage switch fabric. The present invention utilizes load-balancing, blocking recovery, background rebalancing, and rollback algorithms to select and manage connection balance on center stage switches in the multi-stage switch fabric for new and modified connections. The load-balancing algorithm attempts to spread the multi-connection slices across center stage switches as evenly as possible, to increase the probability that future multi-connection slices can be added without needing to rearrange existing slices. Advantageously, the present invention is efficient by making the best possible local decision for one multi-connection slice at a time, without considering other multi-connection slices that may also need center switch assignments. Additionally blocking recovery, rollback and background rebalancing features are also supported.

  • Patent number: 8638786
Abstract: Embodiments herein control a wind turbine in a wind power plant where the wind turbine includes a wind turbine controller and at least one connected wind turbine component. Upon receiving a packet containing a “write/read” instruction, the wind turbine controller effectuates a write instruction by changing a set point associated with an attribute of a component in the wind turbine. The controller retrieves information data resulting from performing the write instruction from the component and transmits the information data to a central controller. The invention performs a fast and simple control loop by means of transmitting both the write and the read instruction within one single data packet.

  • Patent number: 8638791
Abstract: A device may include a control module configured to distribute sets of routing entries to line cards, each of the sets including a portion of a master table for looking up routes based on network addresses. In addition, the device may include a first one of the line cards configured to receive one of the sets of routing entries, store the received set of routing entries in a local table, receive a packet from a network, obtain a routing entry using the local table based on an address associated with the packet, and send the obtained packet to a second one of the line cards, the second line card associated with the routing entry. Further, the device may include the second line card configured to forward the packet toward the address in the network.

  • Patent number: 8619791
Abstract: Described are a network, computer program product, and method of distributing routing information for a virtual private network (VPN) application through a packet-switched network (PSN) having fully meshed provider edge (PE) routers through Provider Backbone Bridge (PBB) tunnels. A PE router is configured to participate in a VPN and to run a BGP (Border Gateway Protocol) as an auto-discovery process for finding one or more other PE routers participating in the VPN. The VPN is associated with a PBB tunnel. A service instance identifier (I-SID) is assigned to the VPN. The PE router advertises membership in the VPN by including the I-SID assigned to the VPN in a BGP message issued during the auto-discovery process.

  • Patent number: 8571049
Abstract: A device may include a first line card and a second line card. The first line card may include a memory including queues. In addition, the first line card may include a processor. The processor may identify, among the queues, a queue whose size is to be modified, change the size of the identified queue, receive a packet, insert a header cell associated with the packet in the identified queue, identify a second line card from which the packet is to be sent to another device in a network, remove the header cell from the identified queue, and forward the header cell to the second line card. The second line card may receive the header cell from the first line card, and send the packet to the other device in the network.

  • Patent number: 8542665
Abstract: A method to add a new wireless device to a home network through one common interface administrator such as a TV hosting an application. A user simply inputs one identification code of the new wireless device to the TV using a remote commander. Since all wireless devices are registered through the same application regardless of their type, the setup experience is consistent to a user who is required to have no special knowledge. Through the process, the administrator TV obtains information of wireless devices sought to be registered in the home network, enabling the administrator TV to capture the network structure or topology, which may be used for further applications, without implementing dedicated protocols such as UPnP to collect the information.

  • Patent number: 8531991
Abstract: A solution is provided wherein the interfaces between multiple chassis (e.g., edge switches) in a network of layer 2 devices and a spanning tree device are treated as a single emulated switch. This emulated switch effectively enables two different views to the two different sides. Thus, frames from the network of layer 2 switches destined to any port of the emulated switch may take any of the links (through any of the physical switches), thereby enabling effective load-balancing for frames traveling from the layer 2 network side into the spanning tree device. Meanwhile the spanning tree device does not recognize an illegal loop in its connection to two different edge switches as it views the two links as a single logical EtherChannel.

  • Patent number: 8514852
Abstract: There exists a need to reduce re-transmission delays in real time feeds (such as video) by sending the packet with sufficient repair/recovery information inside the packet container so the relaying stations and/or the receiving devices can fix errors in transmission by perusing the contents of the packet and the repair information, and modify the packet and then relay it. By providing the relaying station the ability to fix the error, retransmission of the packet is avoided along each relay station along the network path from source to destination and also by receiving devices that would otherwise request a re-transmission. This application teaches a method so real time streams (e.g. video) may be more efficiently transported over a CSMA based network.

  • Patent number: 8509248
Abstract: Methods, apparatus, and products for routing frames in a network using bridge identifiers, wherein the network includes a plurality of bridge nodes. At least one of the bridge nodes operates as an ingress bridge node through which frames are received into the network. At least one of the bridge nodes operates as an egress bridge node through which frames are transmitted out of the network. One of the bridge nodes receives, from the ingress bridge node, a frame for transmission to a destination node. The destination node connects to the network through the egress bridge node. The frame includes an ingress bridge identifier and an egress bridge identifier. The bridge that received the frame then routes the frame to the egress bridge node through which the destination node connects to the network in dependence upon the ingress bridge identifier and the egress bridge identifier included in the frame.

  • Patent number: 8369339
Abstract: A system and method are provided for subscriber to content provider network access service management which is requested by and paid for by the content provider to the network access provider. In response to the request from the content provider the network access provider invokes changes in bandwidth and/or quality of service for network traffic traversing between the web service provided by the content provider and the subscriber, either automatically or in response to a run-time request. The changes made in bandwidth and/or quality of service for the network traffic enables more robust and timely content and applications to be delivered to the specific subscriber from the content provider.

  • Patent number: 8340106
Abstract: A multi-hop mesh network may be connected to a Local Area Network (LAN) using a MAC Bridge. One or more nodes on the mesh network may be configured as a bridge node that employs a MAC bridge. Packets that travel between stations on the LAN to nodes on the mesh network flow through one of the bridge nodes on the mesh network. The bridge nodes do not receive all the packets on mesh network, but they receive the packets that are to be transmitted across the MAC bridge. As the bridge nodes learn of new stations on the LAN they advertise routes to the other nodes within the mesh network specifying how to reach those stations. This enables MAC Bridge functionality between wireless mesh networks and 802 LANs.

  • Patent number: 8279875
Abstract: A method for an Ethernet to bear ATM cells includes: mapping the ATM virtual connection information in the first ATM cell received from the ATM network to an Interworking Identifier (IW ID); combining the IW ID and the cell payload of the first ATM cell into an Ethernet frame; and transmitting the Ethernet frame in an Ethernet network. An apparatus for an Ethernet to bear ATM cells is also disclosed. The embodiments of the present invention implement network interworking on the data link layer (layer 2) and enable an ATM network to perform ATM emulation in a metropolitan area Ethernet (MEN) independently of the upper-layer protocol, thus facilitating the user.
