  • Patent number: 4719669
Abstract: A fastening member provided at the end of a spring-elastic mounting strap of a tire chain. The fastening member has an introduction passage and an attachment passage for a cooperating fastening member that is secured to the other end of the mounting strap. A guide passage interconnects the introduction passage and the attachment passage. This guide passage, at the level of a hook arm portion that partially separates the introduction passage from the attachment passage, extends at an angle of greater than 90.degree. relative to the longitudinal axis of the attachment passage. In this way, the cooperating fastening member can be easily hooked in the fastening member. The inclined course of the guide passage relative to the longitudinal axis of the attachment passage assures a high degree of protection against accidental unhooking.

  • Patent number: 4714505
Abstract: In the feeding of sheet material to a machine such as a tire building former a sheet is first placed on a table and one edge of the sheet is aligned with a first datum line, preferably by tilting the table and supplying floatation air under the sheet. The sheet is then picked up and moved transversely through a predetermined distance by a gripping device to align the edge with a second datum line so as to enable the sheet to be fed in appropriate alignment to a machine.

  • Patent number: 4711285
Abstract: Disclosed is a high-performance tire in which a bead filler formed of a rubber composition fills up a space between each turn-up portion of the carcass and a major portion of the carcass and extends to some extent along the carcass toward the tread. The rubber composition is anisotropic such that the elastic modulus in the direction circumferential of the tire is distinctly higher than in the direction radial of the tire. Such anisotropy can be produced by incorporating short fiber of a suitable thermoplastic polymer such as nylon into the rubber composition. This tire provides both improved controllability and a good ride.

  • Patent number: 4709432
Abstract: An apparatus for aiding in the mounting of tire chains having a flat base and two upward projecting angle members positioned parallel is disclosed. The angle members have first and second apices respectively positioned relative to one another and the road surface such that an encroaching tire is first engaged across its width by a first apex. The tire is supported on both apices, sized and positioned such that a cross-link of a tire chain positioned therebeneath remains movable, so that a snug and uniform fit of a tire chain is achievable. The apparatus is also useful as a support base for a jack and as a wheel chock.

  • Patent number: 4710249
Abstract: A method and closure are provided for sealing and repairing a puncture of a tire. The closure is a resilient plug of a rubber-like material stiffer and more durable than prior closures having a generally cylindrical shank portion and an adjoining circular head portion. The periphery of the shank portion has a labyrinth of closely spaced sealing rings and grooves therebetween. When the shank portion is forcibly engaged with a puncture, the sealing rings individually radially compress and locally conform to the size and shape of the puncture thereby providing multiple sealing members with the puncture. Additional sealing is provided by an auxiliary sealing ring on the head portion of the closure which is adhesively bonded to the inner surface of the tire, adjacent to the puncture. Tool attaching means are provided on the closure for forcibly engaging the closure with the puncture.

  • Patent number: 4708184
Abstract: A tire pressure regulating unit for modifying the air pressure in vehicle tires while traveling. Shutters, which are arranged between the tire and the tire control valve, have parallel-connected auxiliary valves which release an additional passage cross-section when the regulation pressure decreases. The shutters may also be provided on the other side of the tire control valve in the work line in the region of the wheel hub, with rapid release valves being connected in parallel to the shutters and permitting bleeding to the atmosphere upon a decrease of regulation pressure. In this way short bleeding times are achieved even for low regulation pressures.
