  • Patent number: 4498948
Abstract: A tire building drum is described as having a unique mechanism for controlling the radial movement of the bead lock segments which are designed to hold the tire bead rings firmly, in position, during the tune-up operation. The mechanism includes an annular support member which is disposed concentrically around the longitudinal center axis of the drum adjacent opposing ends of the drum, and which has a number of raceways that are radially oriented in relation to said center axis. The raceways are equally, angularly spaced about said axis and are designed to slidably receive a bead lock segment on which a cam roller is freely mounted for rotation. The mechanism also includes an annular scroll member which is disposed concentrically around said axis in side-by-side parallel relation with each of the support members.

  • Patent number: 4496793
Abstract: The subject invention relates to a multi-layer circuit board laminate which includes one or more stabilizing metal sheets for reducing the thermal coefficient of expansion of the laminate. In addition, a novel two-step fabrication method is disclosed which permits apertures to be provided in the metal stabilizing layer and prevents the entrapment of air in those apertures as they are filled with epoxy.A multi-layer circuit board laminate is disclosed having a controlled thermal coefficient of expansion which is particularly useful in conjunction with leadless components. The subject invention includes incorporating one or more stabilizing metal sheets into a composite multi-layer circuit board laminate assembly. The stabilizing metal sheets function to significantly reduce the circuit board laminate's thermal coefficient of expansion, thereby enabling the laminate to be used in conjunction with leadless electronic components.

  • Patent number: 4496411
Abstract: A method for crimping tire bead rings in which an inner die member has grooves for holding the bead rings in the area of the bead splices and an upper die member engages the outer surface of the bead rings in that area. The die members are compressed with sufficient force for a sufficient period of time so that the strands of the bead rings are held together by the insulating material around the strands in the area of the bead splices. The side portions of the grooves control the spreading of the bead rings and may be flared to compress and then release the bead rings. The grooves of the inner die member may have movable inserts for ejecting the bead rings. The upper die member may also include grooves in mating engagement with the grooves of the inner die member for enclosing the outer portions of the bead rings at the splice area and provide for release of the bead rings after crimping.

  • Patent number: 4490197
Abstract: A tire casing preparation system including a transfer machine and associated with a plurality of work stations for performing a variety of operations on worn tire casings such as de-treading, contouring, surface conditioning, dimensional gauging, defect detection and adhesive treatment. The transfer machine includes a turntable having a plurality of chucking and rotating mechanisms for mounting and processing tire casings as they are moved from one work station to another. A tire casing is first transported to a de-treading station where it undergoes a rough machining or de-treading operation for forming a curvilinear surface on the upper outer periphery of the tire casing. The tire casing is then transported to a contouring work station where a semi-rough machining operation is performed to form an arcuate outer peripheral surface.

  • Patent number: 4487241
Abstract: A system is disclosed for warning that the pressure in one tire of a pair of dual tires is more than a predetermined amount below the pressure in the other. The system comprises a device fitted to the valve stem of the outer tire and having a single air inlet and two air outlets connected one to each tire. Two pistons are subjected to tire pressures and themselves act on a lever. When the tire pressures differ, the forces on the lever are unbalanced, and the lever tilts. A trigger unit is mounted on the rim of the inner tire and linked to the lever by a stiff wire. When the wire is displaced, a spring loaded arm of the trigger unit is released. On the body of the vehicle there is a switch the operating member of which is struck by the spring loaded arm after that arm has been released. The switch is connected to a warning device in the vehicle cab.
