  • Patent number: 4462233
Abstract: A detachable guard or cover for preventing access to the keyhole of cylinder type locks in the face of a wall or locked door of a tool cabinet is combined with openings in the wall on each side of said keyhole. The guard comprises a generally U-shaped body having a pair of anchor legs joined at one end by a shouldered rivet. The free terminal end of each leg has a right angular tongue which fits into one of the openings in the wall when the guard straddles the keyhole to anchor the guard against the rear face of the wall. A locking leg journalled on the rivet fixes the guard when in closed position. The anchor legs and the locking leg have holes, which register when in closed position, to receive the shackle of a padlock. Alternatively, a lock set or cylinder lock may be built in to the anchor legs, with its pawl positioned to immobilize the locking leg until turned by a key to unlock.

  • Patent number: 4458928
Abstract: A panic exit door actuator and locking bolt mechanism of the rim type adapted for mounting in a horizontal position extending generally between the hinged edge and swingable edge of an exit door, wherein the locking bolt comprises a rotatable star wheel with a plurality of circumferentially spaced radial arms that are successively movable by rotation of the star wheel in one direction into salient bolted positions in which they are retained against reverse rotation to an unbolted position by a spring biased latch. The plane of rotation of the star wheel is traversed by the path of relative movement of a bar type strike mounted on the associated door frame, during closing movement of the door, whereupon the strike will engage one of the arms and rotate the star wheel to bring a following arm into a latched, bolted position overlying the strike.

  • Patent number: 4457651
Abstract: A pair of nail shank pieces are united face to face through the intermediary of a strip metal, and the tip parts of both nail shank pieces are tapered so that both nail shank pieces may be gradually opened as the nail is driven in. The metal strip is subjected to a compressive deformation to support the nail shank pieces from inside, thereby helping in their maintaining an opened state. Both nail shank pieces engage the base material in a dovetail fashion and in this way, the countering force against the nail's coming out is reinforced. A clamping ring fit around the outer circumference of both nail shank pieces to hold the metal strip therebetween such that both nail shank pieces are prevented from opening at the base material surface, and moreover, the opening made by the nail at the base material surface is protected from widening, while aiding in both nail shank pieces entering deep into the base material.

  • Patent number: 4456290
Abstract: An improved and simplified lock housing assembly for positioning and retaining lock or latch assemblies in cutouts in glass doors provided for that purpose which, outside of standard components such as screws, uses extrusion produced components so that the requirement for heavy machining and complex manual assembly is eliminated. The assembly includes a pair of spacers cut from the same extrusion which nest against an extruded elastomeric, channel shaped grommet about the cutout and position the lock assembly. The spacers are retained in the plane of the door by lengths of extruded plate which are fastened by screws to the opposite sides of the spacers and extend over upper and lower portions of the grommet. The screws and the grommet portion still exposed are in turn covered by extruded cover plates which include channels which slide over and dovetail with chamfered edges of the screw plates.

Abstract: An add-on locking mechanism for a vehicle hood is provided in addition to a standard hood locking arrangement. The locking mechanism includes a mounting plate which is mounted on a support plate of the locking arrangement, and a locking latch that is pivotally mounted on the mounting plate. The locking latch engages and disengages a hasp which is mounted on the hood and with which a pivotable catch of the locking arrangement also cooperates. The locking latch is operated by a Bowden cable which is connected to a key-operated lock situated in the passenger compartment of the vehicle. The cable core of the Bowden cable is connected to the locking latch, while the jacket is mounted on a mounting bracket that is mounted on the mounting plate.

  • Patent number: 4454780
Abstract: The mechanism, designed especially for use in an earth compacting drum, comprises a pair of concentrically-arranged, eccentrically-weighted elements, which are rotated in unison by means of a hydraulic motor. The mechanism is housed within an earth compacting drum, and the one eccentrically-weighted element is translatable, axially, and disengageable from a splined coupling, in order that it may be indexed to different rotary positions relative to the other eccentrically-weighted element. In this manner, vibratory amplitudes may be increased or decreased.

  • Patent number: 4453869
Abstract: The one legged fastener is for securing an object to a wall. The one legged fastener has a body with one leg which has a prebent knee that permits the leg to be easily inserted through a desired hole in the wall. The fastener body is made of a bendable material and has a tab portion and a foot portion at the opposite ends of the leg. The tab has a hole in alignment with a threaded hole in the foot portion. By placing a screw through the tab portion hole and turning it through the threaded hole in the foot, the one legged fastener bends at the knee and is secured to the wall to secure an object.

  • Patent number: 4449873
Abstract: A fastener assembly for attaching articles to a penetrable surface such as drywall material found in the interiors of buildings. The assembly is comprised of a fastener, which fastener has a threaded shank with a pointed end and either a head or a second threaded end and an anchor member piercedly captured by the threaded shank of the fastener. The anchor member is held in a position substantially parallel to the axis of the threaded shank with the pointed end extending beyond the anchor member by a retaining means while the assembly is piercing a surface; as the assembly pierces the surface, the retaining means slips from engagement with the anchor member and, as the anchor member passes through the rear side of the surface penetrated, spring means on the anchor member urge the anchor member to a position substantially oblique to the axis of the threaded fastener.

  • Patent number: 4449878
Abstract: A clinch type nail having a generally flat shank with a pair of spaced penetrating portions having inner and outer walls that are disposed in angular relationship with each other and intersect along a generally straight line. The outer walls offer more resistance to penetration than the inner walls when the nail is driven which causes the penetrating portions to clinch inwardly toward each other and capture a plug of the material into which the nail is driven.
