Abstract: A recommendation platform that provides a menu of automated recommendations from on-line information by friends, with various weighting factors, to evaluate businesses. The platform is a software deployable system that amalgamates the candidate businesses into different categories and cross-references friends' experiences with these businesses. The interface utilizes a circular-like menu and is both compact and easily navigable.
Abstract: A graphics integrated circuit chip is used in a set-top box for controlling a television display. The graphics chip processes analog video input, digital video input, a graphics input and an audio input simultaneously. The chip processes graphics images organized as windows. The chip obtains data that describes the windows, sorts the data according to the depth of the window on the display, transfers graphics images from memory, and blends the graphics images using alpha values associated with the graphics images.

Abstract: Mismatch of types of input and output data are prevented when forming a routing operation to establish correspondence between nodes building a three-dimensional virtual space. In editing work, if a user sets a type of output data of field values of nodes on the output side, a routing editing tool lists the nodes which may receive that output data in one view. When the user selects one of the displayed nodes and tries to select names of fields of the selected node, the routing editing tool lists in the view only the names of fields of the type of input data which the field values of the selected node can receive. The routing editing tool thereby generates routing text described so as to allow transfer of an event between fields of nodes matching with the data type selected by the user.
Abstract: A ventilation control system for controlling the ventilation of a patient. The ventilation control system utilizes a user-friendly user interface for the display of patient data and ventilator status, as well as for entering values for ventilation settings to be used to control the ventilator.

Abstract: Displaying a hypermedia document such as an HTML web page on a television display without using horizontal scroll bars, while preserving the look and feel of the web page as originally contemplated by the web page designer. When possible, each web page is reduced to fit within a specified threshold such as the horizontal margins of the display. Any vertical portion of the web page overlapping the vertical margin is accessed through a vertical scroll bar or similar technique. In a first pass, web page reduction includes rendering the web page without any scaling or changes to the web page and recording web page content statistics to obtain a global indicator as to the horizontal size of the entire web page. Content statistics recorded in each cell includes the following cell content characteristics: the width of the largest non-breaking line of elements; the width of the largest element within a non-breaking line; and the width of the largest embeds or non-breaking horizontal sequence of embeds within a cell.
Abstract: A method providing for an improved user interface. In one aspect of the invention, a method is disclosed allowing an inlay from one application to have its parent application set to a second application. This allows, for example, an application which provides for network monitoring to have an inlay displayed in a web browser or the like allowing easier viewing of the inlay by the user when executing the web browser.
Abstract: The invention relates to a display unit for the distribution of products, in particular a refrigerated display unit for food products such as ice cream and the like, which includes a cabinet in the form of a chest defining an environment for containing the products and having a top opening for access. The display unit includes an electric or electronic display panel arranged near the opening in the cabinet and operable to generate a plurality of predetermined visual presentations, and control means which the user can manipulate to cause a predetermined visual presentation to be generated on the display panel.
Abstract: A method for selecting menus in a television receiver is provided. In the method, a controller determines if a menu selection command is input by a user to enter a menu selection mode. If the menu selection command is input, the menu selection mode is entered, and a main object is displayed on a screen of the television receiver. Then, the controller determines if a cursor is positioned within a main object region of the main object when the main object is displayed on the screen and determines if a sub-object is associated with the selected main object when the cursor is within the main object region. If the selected main object has a sub-object, the selected main object is erased from the screen, and the sub-object is displayed. Then, the controller determines if the cursor is positioned within a sub-object region of the sub-object when the sub-object is displayed on the screen. When the cursor is positioned within the sub-object region, a sub-object operation is executed.
Abstract: An apparatus and method for operating a graphic user interface in a windowing operating system. A value representing a mapping of logical inches to real measurement units is determined from information stored in the operating system. A physical size in real measurement units of a display device is determined. A user viewing the display device is asked to identify a displayed graphic image having a preselected dimension in real measurement units. A plurality of graphic objects are displayed, where each of the graphic objects have a different size. The user viewing the plurality of graphic object is asked to select one of the graphic objects. The size of the selected graphic object is saved as a first user-defined size.

Abstract: A help service function control device is added to a multi-sync(or multi-modc)monitor of a personal computer. The control device uses a micro controller and an on-screen display to control a video display to show the contents of "Help Service". The help service contains Install. Adjustment and Specification instructions for instructing the user to install and adjust the monitor and to understand the specifications of the monitor. The micro controller picks up a serial signal from the on-screen display, permitting the fetched signal to be amplified by a video pre-amplifier and then displayed through the video display so as to help the user eliminate troubles.
