  • Patent number: 8117267
Abstract: A system for provisioning an electronic mail (email) account of a user for allowing access to an electronic mailbox from a remote device to retrieve email includes a communications module that receives email address parameters entered by the user and transmits a domain name system (DNS) query to the Internet for returning mail exchange (MX) and address (A) records corresponding to the entered email address parameters of the user. A configuration module processes any returned MX and A records to determine whether the email address parameters entered by the user are valid before attempting to provision the email account of the user.

  • Patent number: 8095641
Abstract: A method and system for monitoring computational resources within a data processing system is presented. A monitoring service receives a non-application-specific request to perform a monitoring operation in order to gather information about the usage of a computational resource within a data processing system. The monitoring service automatically selects a monitoring application from a set of monitoring applications in which the selected monitoring application is able to perform the monitoring operation on the computational resource. The monitoring service then sends to the selected monitoring application an application-specific request that identifies the computational resource and indicates the monitoring operation to be performed on the computational resource.

  • Patent number: 8095601
Abstract: The present invention extends to methods, systems, and computer program products for facilitating inter-proximity communication within a rendezvous federation. Nodes maintain collateral ring set entry tables that include collateral rings and corresponding entry nodes into the collateral rings. Nodes can exchange collateral ring set entry state to update one another on the configuration of rings within a tree of rings. Nodes can refer to collateral ring set entry tables, as well as to other nodes, to identify entry nodes into rings that are collateral rings of the node. Messages can be sent to entry nodes in collateral rings. A message can include an indication that an entry node in a target proximity ring is to resolve the message to the node in the target proximity ring which has a node ID closest to an indicated destination node.

  • Patent number: 8086669
Abstract: A method of communicating between a print client and a print server is described. The method comprises obtaining an indication of the viability of communication of User Datagram Protocol (UDP) messages from the server to the client. If the indication is that UDP messages are viable, messages are sent from the server to the client using UDP. Otherwise a Hypertext Transfer Protocol (HTTP) request is made from the client to the server, that request is left open, and when the server wishes to send a message to the client, the message is sent as the response to the open HTTP request.

  • Patent number: 8086757
Abstract: A solution for home automation management includes, at a network device configured to support multiple home automation technologies, receiving a message from a first home automation control device (HACD) managed by the network device, towards a second HACD managed by the network device. The network device translates the message to a form recognizable by the second HACD, and then sends the translated message towards the second HACD in accordance with home automation technology supported by the second HACD. According to one aspect, the solution may be extended to a network of multiple network devices configured to support multiple home automation technologies.

  • Patent number: 8055718
Abstract: Management of e-mail. A user at the originating workstation enters a first e-mail address into a primary address field, a second e-mail address into a secondary address field, a third e-mail address into a tertiary address field and text into the text field of an e-mail form to form an original e-mail, and requests to send the original e-mail including the first, second and third e-mail addresses to the first, second, and third e-mail addresses. A first recipient having the first e-mail address receives the original e-mail including the first, second and third e-mail addresses and the text, selects a command option to reply to all addressees in the primary address field and the secondary address field. In response, the reply e-mail is sent to a fourth e-mail address corresponding to said user and the second e-mail address but not the third e-mail address.
