  • Patent number: 7738484
Abstract: Multiple initialization techniques for system and component in a point-to-point architecture are discussed. Consequently, the techniques allow for flexible system/socket layer parameters to be tailored to the needs of the platform, such as, desktop, mobile, small server, large server, etc., as well as the component types such as IA32/IPF processors, memory controllers, IO Hubs, etc. Furthermore, the techniques facilitate powering up with the correct set of POC values, hence, it avoids multiple warm resets and improves boot time. In one embodiment, registers to hold new values, such as, Configuration Values Driven during Reset (CVDR), and Configuration Values Captured during Reset (CVCR) may be eliminated. For example, the POC values could be from the following: Platform Input Clock to Core Clock Ratio, Enable/disable LT, Configurable Restart, Burn In Initialization Mode, Disable Hyper Threading, System BSP Socket Indication, and Platform Topology Index.

  • Patent number: 7733838
Abstract: A data transmission device for reducing power consumption includes a data source configured to provide data, a data transmission line having a plurality of data transmission sections, and data storage units respectively coupled to the data transmission sections. The respective data storage units determine whether the data storage units store the provided data, and store the provided data based on the determination result. The provided data is sequentially stored into the data storage units, from one end of the data storage units to the other end of the data storage units. A data transmission controller is configured to control the data transmission sections and to transmit the provided data to one of the data storage units. Therefore, the data transmission device may reduce electromagnetic interference (EMI) that is proportional to the current in the source driver.

  • Patent number: 7724743
Abstract: In group wireless telecommunication, such as push-to-talk (PTT) calls, a voice communication is broadcast through Internet protocol data packets to other member devices of the PTT group. At least one communication server receives a single communication stream from a communicating wireless device, such as a PTT call, and creates a group communication to all wireless telecommunication devices of the designated group with the broadcast of Internet protocol data packets containing the voice data of the communication stream to one or more wireless telecommunication devices of the receiving group that can receive and handle the packets. Other wireless network infrastructure can be used to assist the communication server in generation and broadcast of the Internet protocol data packets to the receiving wireless telecommunication devices.

  • Patent number: 7720078
Abstract: In one aspect, a method in a packet-switched network for accessing a first subscriber is provided. A control server receives a message intended for the first subscriber of the packet-switched network. The control server inquires a topology database for information of how to reach the first subscriber according to the topology of the packet-switched network. A response having a topological path description is received by the control server. The message is transmitted to the first subscriber in accordance with the received topological path. Whereby, the first subscriber is assessable via a plurality of control servers in the packet-switched network.

  • Patent number: 7715420
Abstract: One embodiment of the present invention provides a system that facilitates biasing receiver circuits within an integrated circuit. During operation, the system provides n receiver circuits within the integrated circuit to be biased. Next, the system provides n+m communication channels between n drivers and n receivers, wherein m is a number of additional communication channels, and wherein m>0. Then, the system couples the n+m communication channels to the n drivers, wherein each driver is selectively coupled to m+1 communication channels. The system also couples the n+m communication channels to the n receivers, wherein each receiver is selectively coupled to m+1 communication channels. In this way, at any given time n of the communication channels are active and m of the communication channels are inactive. Finally, the system refreshes inactive m communication channels' biases while the m inactive communication channels are not communicating signals.

  • Patent number: 7715417
Abstract: A technique is disclosed that enables the adaptive pooling of M transmission paths that offer a first signal-quality guarantee, or no guarantee at all, with N transmission paths that offer a second signal-quality guarantee. Through this adaptive pooling, a telecommunications channel is created that meets the quality of service or waveform quality required for a packet stream being transmitted, while not excessively exceeding the required quality. The technique adaptively recaptures any excess signal quality from one path and uses it to boost the quality of an inferior path. A node of the illustrative embodiment selects the paths to handle a current segment of source packets, based on one or more parameters that are disclosed herein. The node adapts to changing conditions by adjusting the transmission characteristics for each successive segment of packets from the source packet stream.

  • Patent number: 7693138
Abstract: Certain aspects of a method and system for transparent transmission control protocol (TCP) offload with best effort direct placement of incoming traffic are disclosed. Aspects of a method may include collecting TCP segments in a network interface card (NIC) processor without transferring state information to a host processor every time a TCP segment is received. When an event occurs that terminates the collection of TCP segments, the NIC processor may generate a new aggregated TCP segment based on the collected TCP segments. If a placement sequence number corresponding to the generated new TCP segment for the particular network flow is received before the TCP segment is received, the generated new TCP segment may be transferred directly from the memory to the user buffer instead of transferring the data to a kernel buffer, which would require further copy by the host stack from kernel buffer to user buffer.

  • Patent number: 7684554
Abstract: The present invention is directed to a method and system for routing communications. A plurality of communication devices are coupled to a communications network. Each communication device has a device identifier. A user-programmable database associates each of a plurality of user identifiers with a device identifier. A call-routing switch arrangement is coupled to the communication network through a portal communication device having a portal identifier. A user designates a destination user identifier when making a communication. The call-routing switches the call, directing the call to a destination device identifier responsive to the user-programmable database association between the destination user identifier and a device identifier. According to the present invention, communications are directed to users and are routed to associated equipment, a user identifier serving as a virtual extension number.

  • Patent number: 7684344
Abstract: Certain aspects of a method and system for transparent transmission control protocol (TCP) offload are disclosed. Aspects of a method may include collecting TCP segments in a network interface card (NIC) processor without transferring state information to a host system. The collected TCP segments may be buffered in a coalescer. The coalescer may verify that the network flow associated with the collected TCP segments has an entry in a flow lookup table (FLT). When the FLT is full, the coalescer may close a current entry and assign the network flow to the available entry. The coalescer may also update information in the FLT. When an event occurs that terminates the collection of TCP segments, the coalescer may generate a single aggregated TCP segment based on the collected TCP segments. The aggregated TCP segment and state information may be communicated to the host system for processing.

  • Patent number: 7675868
Abstract: Systems and methods are described for enabling routers to coordinate via a back-channel communication medium. The information exchanged over the back-channel is used to increase the number of paths considered for the routers during route optimization. The Decision Makers may assert routes and prefixes to the routers under their control. This may be done via a Border Gateway Protocol (BGP) feed. The Decision Makers, in turn, communicate separately with one another, in order to coordinate routing policy amongst themselves. This coordination may be performed over a back-channel, which may take the form of physical or logical connections between the Decision Makers.

  • Patent number: 7672321
Abstract: The invention relates to a network comprising a plurality of network nodes. At least part of the network nodes are directly coupled to each other via at least one star node. The star node comprises a plurality of star interfaces which are assigned to at least one network node. In dependence on a respective pilot signal, a star interface conveys a message from the assigned network node to the other star interfaces, or from another star interface to at least one of the assigned network nodes. Also, in the event of simultaneous arrival of at least two pilot signals at the respective star interfaces, a decision circuit releases one star interface for the transmission of data.
