Abstract: A Message Storage and Deliver System (MSDS) is connected to the public switched telephone network (PSTN) and receives incoming calls with these calls being facsimile, voice, or data transmissions. The MSDS detects the type of call and stores the message signal in a database. The MSDS is also connected to the Internet and has a hyper-text transfer protocol deamon (HTTPD) for receiving requests from users. The HTTPD forwards requests for certain files or messages to a network server which transmits at least part of the message to the HTTPD and then to the user. In addition to requests for certain documents, the HTTPD may also receive a request in the form of a search query. The search query is forwarded from the HTTPD to an application program for conducting the search of the database. The results of the search are forwarded through the HTTPD to the user. The user may then select one or more files or messages from the search results and may save the search for later reference.

Abstract: An instant message delivery system includes a network interface for sending and receiving instant messages and a message queue. The system sorts instant messages by determining a priority weight for received messages. The priority weight of a message is determined by considering such characteristics as the size of the message, whether the sender is in a “buddy list” of the recipient, whether the recipient is in a “buddy list” of the sender, and/or whether the message has been marked as “urgent” by the sender. The received messages are then inserted into the queue at a position determined by their respective priority weights and are sent by the system in the order determined by their positions in the queue.

Abstract: A method and system for preloading data is provided. Resources are preloaded on a client before they are needed by an application. Application hints and static resources lists may be used to indicate resources are needed. The application may begin execution before receiving all of the resources associated with the application. Preloading may be done during execution of an application, or when the application is not executing. Preloading allows an application to run smoothly without consuming more resources than are needed by an application. A prediction graph may be generated that is used in predicting the resources that are likely to be needed by the application. An analyzer may also be used to simulate the system and adjust parameters used in creating the prediction graph.

The analysis methods and systems allow for the creation of new offline business methods based on online consumer behavior. In embodiments, the output file enables a third party to match a sales medium to a variety of financial service offerings.

The notification method table stores types of computer viruses and notification methods for the result of detection of computer viruses in association with each other. The data receiver receives data from a cellular phone. The notification method selector selects a method of notifying the cellular phone of the virus detection result, based on a type of a computer virus included in the data received by the data receiver.

Abstract: A streaming data filtering method and apparatus utilizing users' profiles to deliver streaming data to users is presented. The invention uses context-based cues to extract content from both video and text ontologies. The invention provides novel techniques that semi-automatically generate a media concept hierarchy using hierarchical classifiers for representing text, closed-caption, and video features. This hierarchy is used to classify arrival of real-time news and will also be used to match users' profiles. Moreover, this hierarchy can be dynamically re-organized based upon user changes and arrival of real-time news. Matching a request with respect to a concept hierarchy is more efficient and reliable than searching specific keywords since the views of collected documents are refined as the hierarchy is traversed.

Abstract: A carrier grade content router, includes a distinct management plane for housing externally visible management applications, and coordinating and relaying external management requests to appropriate underlying application code in the router; a distinct control plane for running control protocols required within an XML routed network; and a distinct data plane for receiving and forwarding customer data. Some functions can be implemented in software or via a hardware accelerator.

Abstract: In one embodiment, the present invention includes a method for receiving a first packet associated with a first network flow in a first descriptor queue associated with a first hardware thread, receiving a marker in the first descriptor queue to indicate migration of the first network flow from the first hardware thread to a second hardware thread, and processing a second packet of the first network flow following the first packet in order in the second hardware thread.

Abstract: A method for associating segments within various media such as text, audio and video is described. A system for navigating and presenting such media is presented. Additionally, a system for defining the segment locations and the associations between them is presented. A method for assisting the user when specifying the segment boundaries is described, which employs the output from automatic media analysis.

In the database server, current account information, including a mail address of the user for mail exchange is registered. When the user registers a new mail address in the terminal, the new mail address is notified to the mail server and the database server. The database server updates the registered account information and also updates the account information registered in the mail server. The update of the account information in the server group is notified to the terminal. When the update of the account information is notified, the terminal apparatus requests the database server to send the account information. The terminal internally registers the account information sent from the database server in response to the request.

A device driver detects that a portable device is connected to the personal computer, and when the device driver detects that the portable device is connected to the personal computer, a start-up program reads contents-related data from the portable device and starts up a display/operation instruction program to provide a display corresponding to the read data.

Abstract: An IP-based group communication feature in a mobile communication network is based on the pre-established logical connections established between a gateway node (GGSN) and members of a group in the mobile communication network. No separate call establishment procedures using VoIP signaling are used for connecting a user equipment (UE) logically to group(s), but the procedure is preferably based on the normal logical connection establishment signaling (e.g. PDP context creation) as used for data service. The UE implements a host supporting the IP multicasting, and the next IP layer peer for the UE host is located in the gateway node. The gateway node provides an IP interface towards an external multicast router so that the UE host looks like a normal IP host supporting IP multicasting. The IP-based voice traffic is mapped and transferred over pre-established connections between the gateway and the UEs of the specific group.

Abstract: A feedback system for visual content is described that allows individual users to obtain feedback regarding selected visual content. The feedback system includes a content navigation enhancer that provides useful navigation and feedback features to a feedback-providing user. When the selected visual content includes a plurality of screens of visual content, the content navigation enhancer may associate an identifier with each of the screens, where each identifier provides a link to its respective screen. The content navigation enhancer may ensure that all of the identifiers are displayed on a user interface, regardless of which screen of visual content is simultaneously displayed on the user interface. Thus, the feedback-providing user has access to all of the screens, regardless of which screen is currently being displayed. Accordingly, the feedback-providing user may select a desired screen to submit corresponding feedback, and may understand a flow or order of the screens of visual content.

Abstract: Disclosed are methods and apparatus for guaranteeing restoration of traffic between one or more cable modems and a backup cable modem termination system upon failure of an active cable modem termination system are disclosed. Subscriber information associated with one or more cable modems are received from an active cable modem termination system. The subscriber information includes one or more subscriber identifiers. For instance, the subscriber information may include a primary subscriber identifier that identifies a particular cable modem as well as a secondary subscriber identifier that is assigned to high priority traffic such as that being transmitted in real-time. In addition, the subscriber information may also include a scheduling type that is further used to categorize the real-time traffic, such as into voice or video traffic.
