Abstract: Methods for diagnosing, monitoring and controlling the onset and progression of certain dementias, such as AD. The onset and progression of dementia are diagnosed and monitored by following changes in the relative concentrations of two forms of albumin in either serum or CSF. The onset and progression of dementia are controlled and memory loss is impeded or the impairment of memory is improved by dietary supplementation or the administration of Mg.
Abstract: Pharmaceutical compositions, comprising a polylactide and a pharmacologically active, acid stable polypeptide, which when placed in an aqueous physiological equipment release the polypeptide at an approximately constant rate in an essentially monophasic manner, with a minimal, or no induction period prior to the release; polylactides suitable for use in said compositions; and a method for the manufacture of such polylactides.
Abstract: A denture adhesive base composition comprises a substantially anhydrous mixture of methyl vinyl ethermaleic acid copolymer, polyvinyl pyrrolidone and ethylene oxide polymer. A denture adhesive composition including this base composition is also provided, the denture adhesive composition optionally including hydroxypropylcellulose. A method for formulating the novel denture adhesive base compositions and denture adhesive compositions of the invention is also disclosed.
Abstract: An adhesive for percutaneous administration having a drug-containing layer composed of a base component mainly comprising a heat-sensitive and water-sensitive amphiphilic polymer and a drug incorporated in the base component. The amphiphilic compound has a characteristic hydrophobicity-hydrophilicity tapered structure, and a variety of liquid or solid or lipophilic (hydrophobic) or hydrophilic drugs of a broad range can stably be dissolved or dispersed therein. The drug in the drug-containing layer remains stable without being released or diffused while the adhesives are stored, and upon application to the skin, the drug is gradually released and diffused into the skin with high availability in a specifically controlled pattern. The present adhesive is especially advantageous for endermic presentation of a slight amount of a substance of high physiological activity which is unstable and is easily decomposed by heat or water.

Abstract: Collagen implants that are useful as wound healing matrices are characterized by being formed of collagen fibrils that are not chemically cross-linked, and having a bulk density of 0.01 to 0.3 g/cm.sup.3 and a pore population in which at least about 80% of the pores have an average pore size of 35 to 250 microns. The implants are capable of promoting connective tissue deposition, angiogenesis, reepithelialization, and fibroplasia. The wound healing matrix also serves an an effective sustained delivery system for synergistic combinations of FGF and TGF-B.
Abstract: The present invention relates to new pharmaceutical compositions characterizing that esters or amides are suspended or dissolved in a middle chain glyceride or a mixure thereof. These pharmaceutical compositions inhibit the degradation of the active ingredient (i.e. esters or amides) by the action of various digestive enzymes in digestive system.

Abstract: A heat-hardenable binder mixture based on organic resins comprises an organic resin having primary and/or secondary and, if appropriate, also additional tertiary amino groups and a crosslinking agent based on an organic compound which contains at least 2 .beta.-hydroxyalkyl ester groups. The binder mixture can additionally contain pigments, fillers, crosslinking catalysts, corrosion inhibitors and other paint auxiliaries. The binder mixture is used in a process for preparing coatings by applying a coating agent in the form of a film to a substrate and subsequently hardening the film by stoving.
Abstract: Primer compositions for adhering overcoatings derived from in situ polymerizations of uncured monomers onto inorganic substrates are disclosed. These primer compositions comprise at least one non-amino- or non-amido-containing silane, at least one of certain metal esters, and preferably an acidic material. The overcoatings are derived from epoxy and vinyl monomers. The primed and overcoated substrates of the present invention provide articles having protective, decorative, or other functional surface layers.
