  • Patent number: 4747809
Abstract: A torque sensitive squeeze control for a variable ratio pulley drive system has a fluid translating unit, such as a pump, disposed in the input torque path. One member of the fluid translating unit is rotated by the input drive shaft while another member is fixed for rotation with an input pulley shaft. If a rotational difference between the input drive shaft and the pulley shaft is present, the fluid translating unit is effective to increase the pressure in the squeeze control piston of the input pulley thereby increasing the torque capacity of the pulley. A speed differential will occur when a torque difference between the two shafts if present. The hydraulic control for the output pulley is via a controlled servo valve mechanism which permits operator control of the drive ratio between the pulleys independently of the squeeze force on the input pulley.

  • Patent number: 4747812
Abstract: A V-ribbed belt having a plurality of ribs on a belt base along the lengthwise direction of belt and a method of manufacturing such V-ribbed belt. The belt according to the present invention is used for driving of driers, auxiliary machines for motor cars, washing machines, etc. Ribs of the belt are formed solely of rubber and are provided with a surface layer comprising a non-woven fabric at the outer surface thereof. The thickness and the weight per unit area of the non-woven fabric are in the range of between 0.01 and 0.3 mm and between 3 and 100 g/m.sup.2 respectively. The non-woven fabric can contain a coefficient of friction reducing agent, where necessary.

  • Patent number: 4550781
Abstract: A method of cutting and retrieving submarine well casing which includes the steps of lowering a tool on a string into the bore of the well casing which tool includes a casing cutter, a bumper sub connecting from the cutter to the combined anchor swivel and latching means to retain the anchor in unset position when it is being run with the string connected to the upper end of the tool, landing the tool with the swivel supported on the upper end of the casing and the remainder of the tool within the casing, releasing the latching means, raising the string to set the anchor, tensioning the string, energizing the cutter arms, rotating the string to cut the casing, and raising the string to retrieve the cut casing. The apparatus includes a casing cutter, a bumper sub, a combined anchor swivel and latching means to retain the anchor in unset position which latching means is actuated to unlatched position by manipulation of the string on which the tool is supported.

  • Patent number: 4506745
Abstract: A method of drilling long and straight holes in rocks is based on the use of a drill rig which may be aligned by means of a laser beam and which comprises a hollow drill stem with a pressure device for guiding the drill stem in a correct direction on applying pressure against the wall of the drilled hole. The laser beam is sent into the hollow drill stem towards an optical detecting unit placed inside a hollow control arrangement joined into the drill stem behind its drill bit, the control arrangement being operated by means of signals from the detecting unit. The arrangement constituted a connecting piece of the drill stem and comprises a pressure device which is in contact with the wall of the hole. The optical detecting unit is arranged with free sight to the source of the laser beam as long as the drill stem is sufficiently straight.

  • Patent number: 4497372
Abstract: A system for controlling the deviation of the path of oil or gas well conductor casing at a desired angle, curvature and orientation in the sea bottom stratum through which it is driven from an offshore platform involving the use of conductor guide(s) equipped with longitudinally disposed anti-twist bar(s) fixedly mounted thereon to prevent or arrest any twisting motion along the longitudinal axis of the casing sections which have like, anti-twist bar as the conductor sections are being lowered or driven down from the platform. Motion is arrested by means of the bars on the conductor guide(s) contacting the similar bars fixedly attached to the casing sections being driven through the conductor guides on the platform support structure. By arresting any twisting motion at this relatively elevated point, any undesired twist is minimized in the driven casing sections minimizing any undesired horizontal deviation in the enplacement of the conductor casing which would have otherwise been caused by the twisting.
