  • Patent number: 5329998
Abstract: A combination perforating/gravel pack assembly includes a crossover circulation tool, a gravel pack screen, gravel pack accessories and a perforating gun which are interconnected by tubular flow conductors. External seals are located at longitudinally spaced locations along the upper end of the flow conductor string, above the gravel pack accessories and screens. External seals are also located at longitudinally spaced locations along the lower end of the flow conductor string, intermediate the screen and the perforating gun assembly. After crossover and reverse circulation are established, gravel slurry is pumped through an inner service string into the production annulus between the screen and the perforated casing. The slurry liquid is returned through a tell-tale screen upwardly through the washpipe and circulation tool, where it crosses over for return flow to the surface through a bypass annulus between the inner service string and the upper flow conductor seal assembly.

  • Patent number: 5327971
Abstract: A means for taking pressure readings in a bottom-hole zone of a well without interfering with an operation in which solid material is moving through a tubing string. A pressure recorder is enclosed in a carrier attached to the outer surface of a tubing sub near the end of the tubing string. The carrier walls include ports which expose the pressure recorder to the fluid in the bottom-hole zone. This arrangement allows operations such as sand fracture stimulations and rod pumping to be unimpeded by a pressure recorder.

  • Patent number: 5327679
Abstract: A plant root growth training device in the form of a plant pot, particularly suited to the early development of juvenile trees or shrubs. The pot is designed so as to have four hollow legs 11, 12, 13 and 14 which define generally pyramid shaped root growth passages to confine lower root growth to four separate regions of the pot. The pot includes upstanding root growth training means in the form of ridges 15 disposed inside the pot about midposition so that a plant planted generally centrally within the pot will have its root growth influenced to form a root structure having clumps of roots. These clumps are confined to the legs 11, 12, 13 and 14 so that on removal of the juvenile plant from the pot 10, the root structure of the plant will have a divergent root pattern.

  • Patent number: 5327974
Abstract: The invention comprises a tool with at least one extending member which causes the fluids moving in the wellbore after perforation to increase in velocity. The velocity is further increased by an auxiliary flowpath which permits the addition of fluid from the surface or from elsewhere in the wellbore or formation to be pumped to mix with the other fluids being produced after perforation. The auxiliary fluid further increases velocity, thus improving the ability of the mixture of formation and auxiliary fluid to entrain debris and remove it from the wellbore.

  • Patent number: 5328413
Abstract: A driving pulley used in a variable speed transmission is adapted to receive a trapezoidal belt by which power is transmitted from the driving pulley to a driven pulley. The driving pulley is provided with radial pins connected to the shaft and movable inside respective apertures delimited by ramps for limiting sliding and rotating movements of the movable flange within predetermined limits with respect to the shaft and for imposing a specific mechanical behavior to the movable flange. It allows additional control of the engine speed under full throttle, reducing the overrun and helping the transmission return to its smallest ratio during a quick vehicle slowdown.

  • Patent number: 5326332
Abstract: An endless elastomeric belt includes a plurality of longitudinally separated guide blocks each having a longitudinally extending slot in a tip portion thereof. The slot reduces the mass of the guide block at a location most effective for reducing acceleration forces generated in the belt at a position where the belt separates from the entrained wheels at high rotational speeds. Reducing the acceleration forces reduces fatigue failures tending to occur in the bond joint between the guide block and a belt body.

  • Patent number: 5325923
Abstract: Expandable casing portions are provided, such as casing slip joints or expansion joints, on opposite sides of a fracture initiation location to accommodate casing and formation movement during fracturing of a well. The fracture initiation location may be provided by forming openings through the well casing and then forming fan-shaped slots in the formation surrounding the casing. These slots may be formed by a hydraulic jet which is directed through the opening and then pivoted generally about the point of the opening. These fan-shaped slots circumscribe an angle about the axis of the casing substantially greater than the angle circumscribed by the opening itself through which the slot was formed. These techniques are particularly applicable to fracturing of horizontal wells, but are also useful on vertical wells.

Abstract: In order to provide for advantageous adjustment possibilities for an infinitely variable drive pulley for a belt drive transmission with two flanges arranged on a shaft and which accommodate a V-belt. One flange is fixed axially on the shaft and the other is moveable in the axial direction against the force of at least one return spring by centrifugal weights in the form of adjusting levers. The adjusting levers each acts on an abutment cam surface, and is supported so as to be able to pivot out about a pin that extends transversely to the shaft, spaced radially therefrom. The adjusting levers can be moved relative to their pivot pins through an adjustment eccentric.

  • Patent number: 5323592
Abstract: A doffer for use with a spindle type cotton harvester is provided which has non-radial lugs to provide a better distribution of stripping and unwrapping force components for enhanced doffing action. The leading edges of the lugs are curved and are angled with respect to the radial direction to provide a scissors action relative to the spindles as the doffer rotates for improved doffing and wear distribution. The lugs provide an immediate unwrapping component upon initial contact with the cotton-wrapped spindles, with less stripping action to reduce the amount of cotton forced between the spindles and the doffer. In another embodiment of the invention, lugs with different pitches are supported in alternating fashion so that the action of the lugs with the greatest pitch provide a large unwrapping force and the smaller pitched lugs provide a large stripping force. The rear portions of the lugs are curved for increased cotton throwing clearance.

  • Patent number: 5324236
Abstract: A toroidal-type power transmission device in which pivoting drive wheel assemblies (5 and 6), comprised each in part of a drive wheel (15) and frictional ring (18), transmit rotational power from a driving toroidal race (1) to a driven toroidal race (2). For each pivoting drive wheel assembly (5 and 6), a drive wheel (15) is rotatably attached to a holding frame (19), such that each drive wheel (15) is permitted substantially free rotation about a respective axle (17). One end of a holding frame (19) is rotatably attached with a control shaft (20) to a mounting structure (10). The opposite end of the holding frame (19) is rotatably attached with a control shaft (21) to a mounting structure (9). The drive wheel (15) and holding frame (19) can therefore pivot as a unit about an axis situated through control shaft (20) and control shaft (21). A driving toroidal race (1) is fixedly attached to a driving shaft (3). The driving shaft (3) is rotatably attached to a mounting structure (12).

  • Patent number: 5323852
Abstract: An auger gravel pack screen or other wellbore device is driven by a workstring which includes a torque-limiting device interposed therein to limit the maximum torque exerted on the screen during augering into a gravel packing in a well bore. The torque-limiting device includes driving and driven mandrels with removable shear pin support parts connected to the mandrels, respectively, and supporting plural shear pins through which driving torque is exerted on the device. An alternate embodiment includes a slip clutch with cooperating lobed clutch members. An axially translatable nut is disposed in a fluid-filled chamber between the mandrels and is operable to permit controlled rotation of the mandrels relative to each other when the limit torque is exceeded to absorb torsional deflection energy built up in the workstring without damaging the workstring or the gravel pack screen.
