  • Patent number: 5707563
Abstract: High capacity, low cost fractionation trays are formed from a number of adjacent triangular (v-shaped) downcomer modules. The trays are free of the horizontal perforated decking surface of conventional trays. The downcomer modules have perforations only in a bottom region for liquid passage and in an upper region for vapor passage, with the central portion of the two inclined downcomer sidewalls being imperforate. The difference in elevation between the bottom region and upper region is considerably larger than a ripple tray. A layer of packing material may be provided close to or adjacent the bottom surface of the tray.

  • Patent number: 5707561
Abstract: A limiter of the extent of adjustment of a fuel metering needle valve of a carburetor for an internal combustion engine. The limiter has a housing with a passage in which the head end of the needle valve is received and a cap received in the passage on the head end of the valve for rotation in unison with the valve. An arm carried by the body of the cap is engagable with a stop in the passage to limit to less than one complete revolution the extent to which the cap and needle valve can be rotated by an end user to adjust the needle valve. To provide a tamper-resistant limiter, the head of the cap is received in a bore of the housing passage with either only a slight clearance between them or an interference fit which also inhibits rotation of the valve by vibration of the operating engine on which the carburetor and limiter are utilized.

  • Patent number: 5707560
Abstract: A variable Venturi slide includes a beveled edge at an oblique angle to lower surface of the slide and air flow, and an auxiliary hole having an opening on the beveled edge communicating between the air flow and the interior of the variable Venturi slide. By being located on the beveled edge, the opening of the auxiliary hole is effectively kept out of the high velocity low air pressure air stream at lower air velocities during partial throttle conditions. The auxiliary hole bleeds vacuum from the interior of the variable Venturi slide, picked up by the other lift hole located on the bottom of the slide, and slows the slide lift rate. The slide stays down or rises very slowly under conditions in which a conventional prior art slide would be starting to rise at a linear rate. At higher air velocities, when the throttle plate is opened quickly or operated at near wide open conditions, the opening of the auxiliary hole adds vacuum to the interior of the slide, and increases the slide lift rate.

  • Patent number: 5700402
Abstract: A crankcase fuel injection system includes a diaphragm type fuel pump, a crankcase fuel injector assembly, and a main air inlet assembly. Engine crankcase pulses generated by the up and down movements of the piston are utilized by the fuel pump to replenish the fuel mixture in a fuel mixture injector chamber of the fuel injector assembly. The air mass entering the crankcase upon the upstroke of the piston is controlled within the main air inlet assembly by a throttle valve and metered across a main air venturi. The venturi signal at the main air venturi is amplified by a booster venturi. The amplified venturi signal is applied to a middle chamber formed between the two diaphragms of the compound diaphragm assembly which serves as the injector pump mechanism. The force acting upon the diaphragm assembly due to the amplified venturi signal is further amplified due to the area relationships of the two diaphragms.

  • Patent number: 5695692
Abstract: Described is an air freshener unit comprising a container, a disc-shaped cartridge of air freshening material rotatably mounted about a horizontal axis within the container, and a discharge outlet in the wall of the container to allow the air freshening vapor to be dispensed. The container has baffle means adapted to allow a faster rate of evaporation of the air freshening material in one part of the cartridge relative to the remainder of the cartridge. The quicker rate of evaporation of the offset part causes the center of gravity to self-rotate within the container. The disc-shaped cartridge comprises a holder having a hub portion for rotatably mounting the cartridge in the container and holding means for supporting air freshening material in block form uniformly around the hub portion. The hub portion has oppositely directed stub shafts for location in apertures in opposed walls of the container, the apertures allowing the cartridge to rotate.

  • Patent number: 5695693
Abstract: A carburetor fuel adjusting device that facilitates control of the quantity of fuel that flows from the fuel chamber to an air intake port of a carburetor by making it possible for the user to adjust an adjustment valve within the limits defined by emission control regulations. The carburetor fuel adjusting device has a cap having two appendages to limit its turning in the lean mixture direction and in the rich mixture direction, and an engagement area to engage a valve extension of the fuel adjustment valves of a carburetor. The valve extensions are inserted through insertion holes of a retainer attached to the carburetor body. When the cap is retained by the retainer in a disengaged position, wherein the engagement area is not attached to the valve extensions of the fuel adjustment valves, the adjustment valves can be adjusted separately from the cap. The cap, however, can be moved forward to an engaged position wherein the engagement area of the cap becomes attached to the valve extensions.

  • Patent number: 5693262
Abstract: An adjustable fuel metering adapter for a carburetor includes a rectangular plate having an inlet surface and an opposite outlet surface. A needle valve chamber with a needle valve seat is formed within the plate and communicates with a threaded needle valve bore formed through a top edge surface of the plate. A pair of inlet ports are bored into the inlet surface of the plate, and a pair of outlet ports are bored into the outlet surface of the plate. A pair of inlet passages communicate respectively between the inlet ports and the needle valve chamber. A pair of outlet passages communicate between the needle valve chamber and the respective outlet ports. The inlet ports receive fuel from the fuel bowl of the carburetor, and the outlet ports are positioned to align with fuel supply passages of the carburetor. Rotation of a needle valve member received in the needle valve bore simultaneously controls the volume rate of fuel flow from the fuel bowl to the respective fuel outlet ports.

  • Patent number: 5688443
Abstract: A temperature compensated carburetor including a composite valve member comprising a bi-metal strip and a gate valve needle for varying the effective flow cross-sectional area of the main and/or idle fuel supply duct to modulate the flow rate of fuel to the carburetor venturi mixing passage. The bi-metal strip generates substantially all of temperature-change-induced movement of the valve needle. The needle may be made of brass or aluminum, or alternatively of plastic material having a much greater coefficient of expansion than the aluminum carburetor body in which it is adjustable mounted such that differential linear expansion and contraction of the valve needle itself, as well as that of the bi-metal, relative to the carburetor body in response to ambient temperature changes varies the flow-controlling cross-sectional area of the fuel duct inversely relative to ambient temperature changes. A needle cylindrical mounting portion at one end is threadably secured in the strip movable free end.
