  • Patent number: 7602193
Abstract: The exemplary embodiments of the invention provide techniques that assist in the absorption, reduction or elimination of the resonance of unwanted cavity modes in a cavity measurement system, such as a cylindrical TE0,n cavity measurement system used to measure various dielectric properties of a dielectric sample, for example. One non-limiting, exemplary system includes: sidewalls; a first endplate; a second endplate disposed opposite the first endplate so as to define a cavity bounded by the sidewalls, the first endplate and the second endplate; and first and second radio frequency (RF) coupling receptacles coupled to at least one of the sidewalls, the first endplate or the second endplate, wherein the first and second RF coupling receptacles are configured to pass a RF signal through the cavity. The first endplate has a plurality of conducting loops disposed on a surface facing the second endplate.

  • Patent number: 7250771
Abstract: A cable tester comprises a test initiating module that performs B cable tests. Each of said B cable tests includes selectively transmitting a test pulse on the cable, measuring a reflection amplitude, and calculating a cable length. A test results module determines a cable status for each of said B cable tests based on said measured amplitude and said calculated cable length and that determines an overall cable status of the cable based on the cable at least one of passing and failing A out of B cable tests. A and B are integers greater than zero and B is greater than A.

  • Patent number: 7199587
Abstract: A portable circuit interrupter shutoff testing device and method, including a high current switch controlled by a timing circuit that allows current to flow through the switch and a small series resistance (in order to trip the instantaneous-trip function of the interrupter, as opposed to the overload-trip) for a short time period relative to the sine wave of the electrical power. A button activates the timing circuit which in turn activates the switch and current flows limited by the internal resistor of the device. By limiting the on time of the device to one or a few half cycles, the user can test if the circuit interrupter responds as quickly as specified by the manufacturer. A method includes receiving a stimulation indication, and selectively connecting an electrical load to wires connected to the circuit interrupter, wherein the electrical load is sufficient to trigger the instantaneous-trip function of the circuit-interrupter.

  • Patent number: 7126352
Abstract: In a method and device for determining the moisture content and conductivity in the ground and in bulk materials, a capacitive sensor is disposed in the ground or the bulk material, the sensor is charged from a constant external voltage supply with a given initial current from a given first voltage threshold value to a given second voltage threshold value and either a voltage/time diagram is determined or a first charging time required for charging the sensor from the first to the second voltage threshold values by the constant external voltage supply is determined and a second charging time is determined wherein either the initial current and/or at least one of the two voltage threshold values are altered and the water content and the conductivity are determined by verification of the two charging times or of the voltage/time diagram.
