  • Patent number: 9988925
Abstract: A laser measurement system for detecting at least one locked blade assembly in a gas turbine. The system includes at least one laser device for emitting a laser beam that impinges on a blade surface of each blade in a row of blade assemblies. The laser beam is also transmitted through a space between adjacent blades to impinge on corresponding internal surfaces of the gas turbine. Further, the system includes a photon detector for detecting a first time period in which first laser energy is reflected from each blade surface and a second time period in which second laser energy is reflected from each internal surface and transmitted through each space. The system also includes a controller for detecting a change in at least one second time period to indicate that a distance between consecutive blades has changed and that at least one locked blade assembly is locked.

  • Patent number: 9933327
Abstract: A method for detecting leakage at a fluid connection for a gas turbine fuel supply system is disclosed herein. The method includes closing a flow control valve at an upstream end of the fuel supply system and pressurizing the fuel supply system with a compressed medium via a compressed medium supply to a target pressure. The target pressure is less than a pressure threshold of a check valve that is disposed downstream from the compressed medium supply and upstream from a corresponding combustor of the gas turbine. The method further includes pointing a receiver portion of an ultrasonic detection device proximate to at least one tube fitting of the fuel supply system located between the flow control valve and a combustor which is fluidly coupled to the fuel supply system. Detection of an increase in sound level and/or the sound of popping at the tube fitting is indicative of a leak at the tube fitting.

  • Patent number: 9915224
Abstract: An engine testing system comprises a rotary absorber that provides a variable resistance to an engine under test and heats coolant from a cold reservoir. A hot reservoir coupled to rotary absorber stores the heated coolant for later (or concurrent) use. Moreover, an organic Rankine cycle turbine-generator device is coupled to the hot reservoir, which converts heat from heated coolant into electrical power. A conditioning system is coupled to the organic Rankine cycle turbine-generator device that cools the coolant for storage in the cold reservoir. The available captured waste energy may be augmented with waste energy that is also available during engine testing. The additional waste energy may be in the form of exhaust gases, thrust, heat from engine coolant systems, residual engine heat, radiant or convective waste heat, friction etc. Variations of the above system may replace the primary energy re-capture from other than a rotary absorber.

  • Patent number: 9869608
Abstract: To show an image with minimal sense of discomfort felt by an occupant without quickening an updating cycle of an on-screen image, a virtual data generator making up a vehicle meter indicator device generates virtual data based on an arbitrary engine rotation speed between an engine rotation speed proportional to an image currently shown on a liquid crystal display device and a latest engine rotation speed rather than display data based on the latest engine rotation speed immediately before updating if the engine rotation speed declines. This allows the liquid crystal display device to show the generated virtual data on a liquid crystal panel as a virtual image for updating.
