  • Patent number: 6751217
Abstract: A bit line selector switch is serially connected with a data sink for detecting high speed data transmissions, typically in the gigabit-per-second range, and a backplane having a plurality of data lines. The selector switch incorporates a selector circuit that operates in one of two modes, a first “selected”, or ON, mode and a second “not selected”, or OFF, mode. The selector circuit includes one, preferably differential, input. In one embodiment, a selector switch has a plurality of selector circuits thus allowing the switch to operate in both modes simultaneously. Data coupled to a differential input of the selector circuit will, when operating in the “selected” or ON mode, transmit the data to the data sink which be, for example, a memory device, processor, or the like. In the “not selected” or OFF mode, the selector circuit will pass any data received to a positive supply rail.

  • Patent number: 6751199
Abstract: A method and an apparatus for rate control in a high data rate (HDR) communication system are disclosed. An exemplary HDR communication system defines a set of data rates, at which an access point (AP) may send data packets to an access terminal (AT). The data rate is selected to maintain targeted packet error rate (PER). The AT's open loop algorithm measures received signal to interference and noise ratio (SINR) at regular intervals, and uses the information to predict an average SINR over the next packet duration. The AT's closed loop algorithm measures a packet error rate (PER) of the received signal, and uses the PER to calculate a closed loop correction factor. The loop correction factor is added to the SINR value predicted by the open loop, resulting in an adjusted SINR. The AT maintains a look up table, which comprises a set of SINR thresholds that represent a minimum SINR necessary to successfully decode a packet at each data rate.

  • Patent number: 6747970
Abstract: A telecommunications system uses software applications called user agents, that are preferably Internet-based and that operate on behalf of users in a telecommunications hosting server to control call connections under control of a telecommunications network server that interfaces with the telecommunications hosting server as well as a connection-based public-telephone network. The telecommunications hosting server operates on a computer network on behalf of the user agents to provide call signaling in support of many advanced calling and telecommunications services. The functionality and, performance (e.g., execution) of the user agent(s) preferably takes place primarily within the telecommunications hosting server, though user client computers can provide some and possibly all of the user agent functionality, depending upon the particular implementation chosen.

  • Patent number: 6738352
Abstract: A transfer destination determining apparatus and method performing a load distribution in a network, where a plurality of transfer destination subjects are present as a transfer destination of a datagram, while the same collected flows are transferred to the same transfer destinations, the transfer destinations are allocated with respect to each of the collected flows. This apparatus has an extracting part extracting address and flow discrimination information, in the IP datagram; route solving part determining a transfer path based on the address information. When the determined path is a single path, the transfer destination is uniquely determined and the path is outputted to a post-staged apparatus, whereas when the path is a multi-path having a plurality of transfer destination subjects a multi-path number is outputted to a flow managing means which determines a transfer path corresponding, to a collected flow based on the received flow discrimination information and the multi-path number.

  • Patent number: 6731601
Abstract: A network switch having switch ports for communication of data packets with respective computer network nodes according to CSMA/CD protocol that resets a retry counter within any one of the respective switch ports if backpressure is asserted by that port. The resetting of the retry counter within a port after assertion of backpressure affords the port a greater probability of winning collision mediation under the CSMA/CD protocol, thus more quickly relieving congestion which may occur in the network switch.

Abstract: A loop carrier system includes a home local area network having plural telephone modules and a hub coupled to in-home telephone wiring. The telephone modules and the hub communicate voice signals over the in-home wiring in a dedicated frequency band above baseband POTS. The hub converts between voice signals and voice packets and is connected to a network access device for transferring the voice packets from the home local area network to a telecommunications network which routes the voice packets to a gateway. The gateway converts between the voice packets and a circuit format compatible with a local digital voice switch.

  • Patent number: 6704289
Abstract: Unavailable customer bandwidth in a connectionless IP network (100) is determined by first measuring network accessibility and network continuity (in Defects Per Million) via an accessibility measurement instrumentation device (202) and a continuity measurement instrumentation device (204). The accessibility and continuity measurements are combined via a mechanism (206) to yield a service unavailability measure that is then compared to a threshold value, representing the applicable customer unavailable bandwidth specified under an service level agreement specification (210). If the actual service unavailability exceeds the allowable unavailable customer bandwidth under the service level agreement, then an event correlation device (212) will correlate the service unavailability measure with network fault and performance alarm information from network alarms (216) to establish a root cause.

  • Patent number: 6697366
Abstract: Ethernet controller memory management systems and methods for memory management for an ethernet controller are provided which allocate blocks of memory based on the amount of data contained in the received ethernet frame. A linked list structure of frame descriptors is utilized for establishing the sequential blocks of allocated memory for data storage, however, the data pointers indicating the starting location of each sequential block of memory are dynamically updated through the use of a frame link detector circuit and methodology which establishes the correct pointer address in a next frame descriptor field based on adding a calculated length of the received data to an initial starting point memory address for the current frame descriptor memory block. Accordingly, the amount of memory allocated to reflect a respective frame descriptor for a particular received frame is limited to the necessary amount of memory to store the length of data received in the respective frame.

  • Patent number: 6671269
Abstract: In a radio communication method and a apparatus in which a fixed-length data block is transferred between respective nodes by using a predetermined time slot of a plurality of time slots provided within each consecutive cycle, a transmission efficiency can be improved. The control node manages the transmission of isochronous communication data of each node at the unit of one cycle or a plurality of cycles. The unit information is transmitted to the control node by each node, and each node calculates a total data length of isochronous communication data transmitted within one cycle. A remainder is calculated by dividing this total data length with a data length of data block the unit information is obtained by using this remainder (S13 to S18), and this unit information is reported to the control node (S19).

  • Patent number: 6614792
Abstract: A proxy MPOA client in a VLAN that is otherwise populated by legacy LECs such that the MPOA services for these LECs are provided centrally by the proxy MPC. A standard MPC enabled edge device is adapted to provide MPC services to legacy LECs that are not MPOA aware. Such an edge device provides MPOA services to legacy LECs located in other edge devices connected to the ATM cloud. The proxy MPC is configured to have at least two LECs: one residing on a legacy ELAN and another residing on an MPOA ELAN. Traffic from the legacy LEC arriving from the legacy ELAN is forwarded to an Ethernet port that is looped back to a second Ethernet port on the proxy MPC edge device. Upon ingress at the second Ethernet port, the traffic is treated as if it arrived from a regular port and provided with MPC services. The loopback may be implemented either internally or externally via one or more cables.

  • Patent number: 6069745
Abstract: A lens barrel has a plurality of moving frames that move along the optical axis of lenses. The lens barrel comprises a first moving frame, a second moving frame, and an interlocking unit. The first moving frame moves along the optical axis. The second moving frame moves along the optical axis within a range smaller than the movable range of the first moving frame. The interlocking unit formed on the first moving frame interlocks the second moving frame with the first moving frame and moves the second moving frame responsively to the movement along the optical axis made by the first moving frame. The movable range of the first moving frame falls into a range of interlocking within which the second moving frame is moved interlocked with the first moving frame, and a range of non-interlocking within which the second moving frame is not interlocked with the first moving frame. Consequently, a moving mechanism for moving the plurality of lens frames can be simplified.
