  • Patent number: 5169789
Abstract: A device and method for a self contained solid phase immunodiffusion assay. The device is comprised of a sample collector, and a pre-fabricated laminate which can be used in many different forms. For example, the same collector and laminate can be used with a tube having compartmentalized reagents. The seals can be broken through pressure on the sample collector. The sample collector is pushed through the seals, mixed with reagent, and then pushed into a ligand receptor reaction area which is part of the laminate. The tip of the sample collector contacts diffusable or porous membranes or filters and transfers the reactants to a capture membrane wherein a ligand receptor reaction can be examined by the naked eye or otherwise.

  • Patent number: 4914038
Abstract: A breath sobriety test system deters circumvention of a test having an alcohol measuring phase and an identification phase. In an alcohol measuring phase, the alcohol content of a breath sample delivered by an operator/test subject is measured in the conventional manner according to the electrical output signal of an alcohol sensor. In the identification phase, the operator/test subject confirms his or her identity as a designated individual by performing an identity-confirming act recognizable by the system. The identity-confirming act includes delivering breath to the system. The response of the alcohol sensor to the breath delivered in the identification phase is compared with the reading taken during the alcohol measuring phase.

  • Patent number: 4900515
Abstract: An arrangement for determining the blood cell sedimentation rate, comprising a pipette having at the upper end thereof a levelling device; a tube and a plunger sealingly engaging the outside wall of the pipette and having a diameter generally the same as the inside diameter (d) of the tube. The plunger is inserted in the tube at a distance from the lower end of the pipette such that when the plunger is inserted in the tube until such lower end of the pipette abuts the bottom end of the tube, it displaces blood into the pipette capable of filling the pipette without overflowing from the ensemble formed by the pipette plus the levelling device.
