  • Patent number: 9589174
Abstract: Specific-site extraction unit 24 extracts specific sites from microscopy images that are obtained by staining or fluorescence labeling of specific sites in a specimen 4. Based on the similarity between MS imaging data and the spatial distribution of the specific sites, cluster analysis unit 25 and division count determination processing unit 26 evaluate the similarity with the spatial distribution of all pixels that belong to one cluster when each of the pixels are categorized into a plurality of clusters. Since the specific sites are sites that include the same characteristic substance, clustering is judged to be appropriate if the similarity in spatial distribution is high. Hence, based on the correlation between spatial distributions, an appropriate division count for the cluster analysis is determined, and the result of the cluster analysis using the division count is output on a display unit 31.

  • Patent number: 6264888
Abstract: A germicidal method and apparatus for destroying airborne pathogenic bacteria such as tuberculosis bacteria using ultraviolet light. Air is drawn through a filter and into a sterilization chamber that is irradiated with ultraviolet light, and out through an exhaust opening. Consideration for the characteristics of the room in which the apparatus is installed and the positioning of the installation allows effective prevention of transmission of disease through expectoration and inhalation of airborne microdroplets of bacteria-containing sputum. The filter is of the low-density type which traps large particulates, but not small particulates of the size of the microdroplets, so that the filter does not become a bacteria colonization site. Baffles on the air intake opening and air exhaust opening to prevent ultraviolet light from escaping into the environment. The sterilization chamber is constructed such that the air passes the ultraviolet light bulbs twice as it circulates therethrough.

  • Patent number: 6251148
Abstract: A process for producing a synthetic and/or fuel gas from an organic containing material by utilizing a thermal pretreatment operation and a gasification reactor. The organic containing material is passed through a thermal pre-treatment operation to produce a gas fraction and a solid fraction. The solid fraction is processed in gasification reactor whereby product gas is produced, and contaminated products are processed for safe disposal. The thermal pre-treatment of the organic containing material produces a solid fraction which can be directly supplied to the gasification reactor without a need to supply a high quality coke to the gasification reactor thereby simplifying the process. The gas fraction and product gas produced from the thermal pre-treatment operation and/or gasification reaction, respectively, can be recycled so as to supply energy and/or processing gas for the various other processes.

  • Patent number: 6139805
Abstract: A fluidized-bed reactor is suitable for uniformly oxidizing, i.e. combusting or gasifying, solid material containing combustible material and incombustible material, and for stably recovering thermal energy from the oxidized combustible material while smoothly discharging the incombustible material. The fluidized-bed reactor comprises a plurality of fluidizing gas diffusion devices disposed at a bottom of a fluidized-bed furnace for imparting different fluidizing speeds to the fluidized medium in a fluidized bed in the fluidized-bed furnace to form an upward flow of the fluidized medium in a fluidizing region with a substantially high fluidizing speed of the fluidized medium and a descending flow of the fluidized medium in a fluidizing region with a substantially low fluidizing speed of the fluidized medium. A plate-like thermal energy recovery device is disposed in the fluidizing region with the substantially low fluidizing speed of the fluidized medium and has a heat recovery surface extending vertically.

  • Patent number: 6139804
Abstract: A process for producing a polyoxymethylene using a reactor having a discharging port having a weir, which process comprises introducing trioxane or a mixture of trioxane and a compound reactive therewith into the reactor from its feeding port and continuously recovering the powdery polyoxymethylene formed, from said discharging port having a weir. Owing to the presence of the weir, the residence time of reaction mixture in reactor is long, making high the conversion of the monomer.

  • Patent number: 6027697
Abstract: In a method for treating a combustion exhaust gas from a waste burning facility, the exhaust gas has its temperature lowered to 180-230.degree. C., in a temperature lowering unit, is freed of dust in a dry dust collector, passed through a dioxin and NOx removing unit using a vanadium oxide-based catalyst and, thereafter, the exhaust gas at 180-230.degree. C. is further passed through a heat exchanger to effect heat recovery. The vanadium oxide-based catalyst is a vanadium oxide alone or the combination thereof either with an oxide of at least one element selected from the group consisting of molybdenum, tin, yttrium, boron and lead or with gold. In addition, a tungsten oxide may be used. These catalysts are preferably carried on titania for use. The method and an apparatus for implementing it require a simple system configuration and yet assure high thermal efficiency while achieving efficient removal of dioxins and nitrogen oxides.

  • Patent number: 6007782
Abstract: The invention relates to a device, in particular for the treatment of low-viscosity polymer melts, containing a vessel (1) with a stirrer element, the stirrer element (6) essentially comprising a support structure which passes through the vessel and on which surface formers (8) are arranged. According to the invention, the support structure is designed as a cage-like rod frame (7).This results in the following advantages:1. Owing to the now possible continuous wetting or wiping of the surfaces, encrustations and inhomogeneities are avoided.2. Due to enhanced cascading with weir plates, the residence time spectrum can be controlled, which likewise improves the product quality.3. The flexing of the stirrer element is reduced.

  • Patent number: 5997826
Abstract: A reactor for catalytic dehydrogenation of dehydrogenatable hydrocarbons, in particular C.sub.3 and/or C.sub.4 hydrocarbons, in a hydrocarbon-containing stream, with selective oxidation of hydrogen. The reactor comprises serially connected in the flow direction of the hydrocarbon-containing stream: a first catalyst zone (2), an oxygen admixing zone (3) provided with a means (5) for separate feeding of an oxygen-containing gas into the hydrocarbon-containing stream, and a second catalyst zone (4). The oxygen admixing zone (3) has a cross section area in the flow direction of the hydrocarbon-containing stream which is from 0.5% to 75% of the cross section area of each of the two catalysts zones (2, 4), so as to obtain a higher flow velocity in the oxygen-admixing zone (3) than in the catalyst zones.

  • Patent number: 5948367
Abstract: The device serves to meter at least two free-flowing components and to convey metered quantities of the components into a mixer in which a reactive compound is formed from the metered quantities. For each component the device contains, as metering and conveying means, in each case at least one pump, a flow meter and a pressure vessel. The pressure vessel is subdivided by a flexible diaphragm into a first part-volume, which in each case receives one of the components, and a second part-volume which can be acted upon by incompressible fluid. When a starting component containing abrasive substances is used, to avoid sedimentation of the abrasive substances during metering and conveying, the pressure vessel which receives the abrasive component is designed and arranged in such a way that the abrasive component fed into its first part-volume rests on the flexible diaphragm.
