  • Patent number: 10271284
Abstract: A GPS capability of a mobile device may be turned on in order to ascertain an updated current location and then be turned off. Position relative to the geofence may be determined based on the updated current location and a time to fence value that provides an estimate of how soon an individual carrying the mobile device could cross the geofence may be calculated. The GPS capability may be kept turned off for a delay time period that is based at least in part on the calculated time to fence value. After the delay time period, the GPS capability of the mobile device may be turned back on and the cycle of turning on the GPS, ascertaining an updated current location and turning off the GPS may continue. An indication of the position of the mobile device relative to the geofence may be transmitted.

  • Patent number: 10200967
Abstract: Techniques described herein provide ways in which a quantity of signaling may be limited between a user equipment (UE) and a location server (LS) for a location session and a positioning protocol such as LPP or LPP/LPPe. The positioning protocol may be enhanced to allow the LS to indicate to the UE a limit on the overall size of assistance data (AD) that the UE can request and/or a limit on the overall amount of location information (LI) that the UE can return. A recipient UE can then prioritize any request for AD such that more important AD should fit within the size limit. The recipient UE can also prioritize returned location measurements such that more useful measurements are included in a message to the LS that is compliant to the limit indicated by the LS.

  • Patent number: 10200934
Abstract: In one example, a mobile AP device receives from a mobile device a request to a server or device in an IP network. When cellular data service of the mobile AP device is available, the mobile AP device allows the request to be sent to a mobile network for communication to the server or device. When the cellular data service is suspended, the mobile AP device disallows the request from being sent to the mobile network to prohibit the communication to the server or device. For a request for content, the mobile AP device may additionally generate and send to the mobile device a response indicating a redirect to a local landing page of the mobile AP device. A control center or server may send one or more messages which instruct the mobile AP device to process the requests in accordance with one or more rules to disallow the requests.

  • Patent number: 10194313
Abstract: Embedded subscriber identity module (eSIM) profile provisioning between proximate devices is described. In at least one example, a first device can broadcast expression data to one or more other devices. Based on determining a presence of a second device within a particular region, the first device can send a request for a profile associated with an eSIM of the second device to the second device. The second device can provision the profile to the first device via a direct connection with the first device. Based on receiving the profile from the second device, the first device can associate the profile with its eSIM and can access at least one service based at least in part on the profile.

  • Patent number: 10178220
Abstract: A driver of a vehicle is identified and a command is sent to a mobile communications device that is associated with the identified driver and that is in proximity of the vehicle to force the mobile communications device to change modes such as to enter a hands-free or other suitable mode. The driver may be identified through one or more techniques including biometric sensing, key detection, switch controls, and so forth. Additionally, the driver and/or feature settings preferred by the current driver may be identified by receiving data from the mobile communications device. The data may identify the driver ID with preferred feature settings, the mobile communications device which has an association to a driver ID with preferred feature settings, or the data may specify the preferred feature settings.

  • Patent number: 10165546
Abstract: Techniques are provided for protecting the privacy of user equipment during paging operations in a communication system. In one example, a method includes determining at a mobility management element of a communication system that a paging operation is to be initiated for given user equipment. The method further includes restricting the paging operation between the mobility management element and the given user equipment to use of a temporary identifier for the given user equipment. By not using a permanent identifier of the given user equipment during paging operations, the given user equipment is effectively non-trackable by malicious base stations and active/passive listeners.

  • Patent number: 10165539
Abstract: A primary user of a spectrum, such as a licensed user, has primary access authority to use of a spectrum. A plurality of secondary users of the spectrum, which may be unlicensed users, have secondary access authority to use of the spectrum. When the primary user wants to use the spectrum, the primary user sends a message that is propagated to all the secondary users in a geographic region that the primary user wants to use the spectrum. The message specifies the duration of time and the geographic region (location of use) where the primary user wants to use the spectrum. The secondary users in the location of use immediately stop using the spectrum for the duration of time specified in the message and then may resume use of the spectrum.
