    Abstract: A spring driven apparatus includes power shafts mounted upon a base, torsion springs mounted about the power shafts, power gears attached to the power shafts, a drive shaft for transferring energy generated by the torsion springs to a drive flywheel and to a rewind flywheel which is connected to a cam which actuates ratchet members which rotates the power shafts to rewind the torsion springs. The spring driven apparatus can run because of the power generated by the torsion springs, which are partially unwound each time, which generates useful power that can be used to propel golf carts, home generators and similar applications and also generates energy which goes back into the rewinding and resetting of the torsion springs.

The device comprises a downhill control means 10 for resetting the overdrive position of an automatic transmission 2 when the vehicle is traveling a downhill, wherein the downhill control means includes a downhill state detection means 13 for detecting the downhill state of the vehicle based on the throttle opening degree &thgr; and the vehicle speed Vs, and an overdrive reset means 14 for resetting the overdrive position of the automatic transmission in response to the downhill state, wherein the reset state of the overdrive position is maintained while the downhill state is being detected, and the throttle valve opening degree is used as a reference for judging that the overdrive is resumed from the state of being shifted down.

    Abstract: A slip control system for a torque converter with a lockup clutch comprises a controller that outputs a slip control signal to a slip control actuator of the lockup clutch to adjust an actual slip rotation speed of the torque converter at a target slip rotation speed. The controller is coupled to sensors for detecting information indicative of a condition of a drive system including the torque converter. The controller decides an operating state of the torque converter at time when the slip control is started, and selects one of initial valves for a slip command signal corresponding to the slip control signal according to the decided operating state of the torque converter at the start of the slip control. This arrangement functions to prevent troubles including shocks due to shortage of slippage in the torque converter and generation of radial slippage of the torque convert from generating at a time staring the slip control.

    Abstract: A multiple-ratio transmission with planetary gearing and a friction clutch and brake for controlling relative motion of the gearing to establish multiple driving ratios between an internal combustion engine and vehicle traction wheels, the clutch and brake include a forward drive clutch and a reverse drive clutch for establishing torque flow paths through the gearing. The forward drive clutch establishes a torque flow path through the gearing from the engine through a torque output element of the transmission during vehicle startup in forward drive range, and the reverse clutch establishes a corresponding torque flow path during startup in reverse. A mechanical connection between the torque input shaft of the gearing and the crankshaft is characterized by minimal rotating mass, thereby reducing the inertia of rotating mass of the elements of the transmission.

    Abstract: A powertrain has a multi speed power transmission including a planetary gear arrangement with three simple planetary gear sets and six selectively engageable, fluid operated, friction torque transmitting mechanisms. A one-way torque transmitting mechanism is disposed in parallel drive relation with one of the friction torque transmitting mechanisms. The selective engagement of the friction torque transmitting mechanisms will establish seven forward drive ratios, a neutral condition and a reverse drive ratio. All of the forward ratio interchanges are single transition shifts and all of the single ratio skip shifts are single transition shifts. The seven forward drive ratios include four underdrive ratios, a direct drive ratio, and two overdrive ratios. The planetary gear arrangement can be controlled to establish six forward drive ratios with either one overdrive ratio and four underdrive ratios or two overdrive ratios and three underdrive ratios.

Also, passive cam-disk, which engages with knob, may rotate with knob and move in axial direction of knob. Passive cam-disk and spur cam-disk may be driven to rotate while knob is moved to rotate.
