Patent number: 4544491Abstract: A process for recovering hydrocarbon oils and hydrocarbon oils containing dissolved additives from filter cakes produced by filtering such oils using a siliceous filter aid.A small amount of a release agent, up to 2 cc per gram of filter cake, is slowly added to the filter cake with agitation to prevent formation of a release agent phase and then a further quantity of release agent is added to the resultant mixture with gentle stirring and the final mixture is then held quiescent at elevated temperature until an oil phase separates. The oil phase is removed and the remainder of the mixture is filtered to separate a release agent filtrate and a filter cake consisting mainly of filter aid.Type: GrantFiled: August 24, 1983Date of Patent: October 1, 1985Assignee: Claypro AssociatesInventors: William H. Tyson, Frank A. Stuart

Patent number: 4543182Abstract: Apparatus for recovery and reuse of parts cleaning fluid or similar fluid such as oil upon separation and removal from water, including a tank for receiving and collecting the water and fluid which floats atop the water. A removable shelf may be slidably mounted in the upper part of the tank for directing the fluid flow to the rear of the tank for channeled passage to a sludge collector. A box-like housing having a water discharge chamber partitioned by a plate-like baffle into water entry and outlet compartments which open to the upper part of the chamber that is vented to atmospheric pressure may be mounted in the lower part of the tank by associated fluid drain fittings. The outlet compartment has a drain whereas the water entry compartment has a relatively small inlet closely adjacent the bottom of the tank so that only water will flow into the water discharge chamber for automatic discharge from the tank upon the level thereof exceeding the height of the baffle.Type: GrantFiled: April 1, 1983Date of Patent: September 24, 1985Assignee: Solvent Extractors Inc.Inventors: Jack A. Patent number: 4536373Abstract: A method and apparatus for conducting catalytic chemical reactions and fractionation of the reaction mixture, comprising and feeding reactants into a distillation column reactor contracting said reactant in a liquid phase with a fixed bed catalyst in the form of a contact catalyst structure, consisting of closed porous containers containing the catalyst for the reaction and a clip means to hold and support said containers, which are disposed above, i.e., on the distillation trays in the tower. The trays have weir means to provide a liquid level on the trays to substantially cover the containers. In other words, the trays function in their ordinary manner with the addition thereto of the catalyst. The reaction mixture is concurrently fractionated in the column.Type: GrantFiled: October 19, 1983Date of Patent: August 20, 1985Assignee: Chemical Research & Licensing CompanyInventor: Edward M. Patent number: 4532037Abstract: An aquarium filter and aerating device for insertion in an aquarium tank comprising an elongated hollow body member having an open bottom end and defining an interior chamber therein. An upper end wall on said body member closes the top of the chamber, and includes therein a plurality of apertures. An air conduit connector extends upwardly from the upper end wall through which air can be pumped from an external pump into the interior chamber. The air lowers the water head in the chamber to an appropriate level within the chamber, and forces the air pumped into the chamber upward and out through the apertures to cause a stream of air bubbles to flow into the aquarium tank to thereby aerate it.Type: GrantFiled: July 11, 1983Date of Patent: July 30, 1985Assignee: Willinger Bros., Inc.Inventor: Allan H. Willinger

Patent number: 4519907Abstract: A grit settling basin including a cylindrical grit settling chamber adapted to contain liquid sewage and a grit storage chamber positioned beneath the grit settling chamber and adapted to receive grit settling out of the liquid. A vertical shaft is positioned centrally in the grit settling basin and extends into the grit storage chamber. A partition comprising a truncated cone surrounds the central shaft and defines the two chambers. A first annular opening is provided between the shaft and the partition and a second annular opening is provided between the partition and an upper portion of the grit storage chamber. A plurality of vanes project from the central shaft below and adjacent the partition and cause upward fluid flow through the first annular opening in response to rotation of the shaft.Type: GrantFiled: December 19, 1983Date of Patent: May 28, 1985Assignee: Rexnord Inc.Inventor: Thomas C. Rooney

Patent number: 4517083Abstract: A filter device for use in the return line of a power steering system for filtering the fine metal particles in the power steering fluid, thereby minimizing contamination, reducing friction and maintaining normal fluid temperatures. A perforated support plate is mounted between an upper body wall and a lower body wall for separating the housing interior into an inlet chamber and an outlet chamber. A felt filter disc is located in intimate contact with the support plate on the inlet chamber side of such plate for filtering the particles from the inlet fluid prior to the passage of the fluid through the filter and the holes in the support plate into the outlet chamber. A relief valve is provided by the combination of the aligned central opening in both the support plate and the adjacent filter disc together with a boss in the upper body wall which extends into such central opening in sealing engagement against the filter material for closing off the relief valve opening under normal filtering conditions.Type: GrantFiled: March 12, 1984Date of Patent: May 14, 1985Assignee: ARC Rebuilders, Inc.Inventors: Willliam Hayes, James W. Patent number: 4504390Abstract: A filter arrangement has two hollow, coaxial, cylindrical filter elements, one of which is closed at one end and the other of which is connected to a clean fluid outlet. The outsides of the filter elements are separated from each other by an intermediate ring. A three-way valve is operable by an operating member to connect an inlet for the raw fluid to either or both of first and second filter elements. A control member operates valves for opening and closing an outlet for dirty fluid is operated at the same time with the three-way valve, dependent on its position. Both filter elements can be used simultaneously for filtering and also flow can be reversed through either filter element.Type: GrantFiled: July 19, 1983Date of Patent: March 12, 1985Inventor: Peter Steffen
